Not to get as too far off topic, but did we know about the CSCC tech center prior to this? With it possibly being awarded $20 million, I’d imagine it’s a pretty big project.

New high-tech home unveiled for up to 900,000 of Ohio History Connection's artifacts “As many as 900,000 historical artifacts ranging from wooly mammoth teeth to the camp chair of Ulysses S. Grant will soon now have a new home just off Interstate 71. That's after the Ohio History Connection unveiled its new Collections Care Center, a $22 million, 16,500 square-foot property designed to house as many as as half of the 1.8 million historical artifacts in the care of the statewide history organization tasked under the Ohio Revised Code with preserving and maintaining Ohio history. Becky Odom, the manager of the curatorial department, said the new center will open a whole new era of access to the pieces of Ohio history in the organization's collection.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2024/06/07/ohio-history-connection-reveals-22-million-collections-care-center/73985326007/

I do hope the Rogue stadium gets built at some point. Would be sweet to see the CF Games hosted in Cbus in the future. I really hope they still end up building their apartments as well.

I was hoping for more of a lunch/fast casual kinda place there, but more coffee is always welcome too. Also, renovation work is full steam ahead now at the building right around the corner, 116 E Long.

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
Okay, I wanna move here so bad. Also love that more and more art galleries keep opening here. Add another high end restaurant or two and a few more cocktail lounges/wine bars and this area will be perfect. Trio of historic downtown Columbus buildings redeveloped by Edwards Cos. now welcoming residents “A trio of historic downtown buildings that sat empty for decades are now welcoming residents, further revitalizing a key intersection. The Edwards Cos. turned the former Madison's Department store and the White-Haines buildings into 44 apartments. The ground floor commercial space will be home to art galleries, which have yet to be announced. There are studio, one- and two-bedrooms units. One-bedroom units start at about $1,500 and two-bedroom units start at about $2,200. Tenants have access to a business center with private call rooms and a multi-story club room. For now, residents of The Madison will share amenities and parking with the Nicholas building across the street. In time, they will share amenities with another Edwards Cos. building going up next door at 100 N. High St. Plans call for the new building to open next year with 152 apartments and commercial use on the ground floor.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/05/29/madison-white-haines-apartments.html

I hope getting shovels in the ground for phase 2A helps with landing TMUD help for 2B. I have a feeling that’s the only way we’re going to see the tower get built. Mixed-Use Development Approved for Scioto Peninsula “The Downtown Commission last week approved a plan to build another mixed-use development on the Scioto Peninsula. The seven-story project will be part of the second phase of the larger development known as The Peninsula – the buildings located west of COSI that have sprung up in the last several years and hold a mix of office space, apartments and the Junto Hotel. Representatives of Indianapolis-based developer Flaherty & Collins and Columbus-based ArchAll Architects presented the latest plan for the building to the commission at its May 21 meeting. The approved plan is largely similar to what the commission first reviewed in December – a 135-unit building with about 5,000-square feet of commercial space, co-working space for tenants, and a third-floor amenity deck with a pool. Tenants would utilize the existing four-story garage along the railroad tracks for parking. The building is located on the southeast corner of Capital and Starling Streets, but the main entrance and the commercial space will both open onto Highwater Alley. One change in the design – based on feedback received from the board at the last meeting – is an enhanced entryway featuring natural wood. Commissioners were supportive of the new design and approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for the building unanimously.” https://columbusunderground.com/mixed-use-development-approved-for-scioto-peninsula-bw1/

Columbus: Downtown: Capital Line
Lol I was responding to a post directly quoting hand-wringing about the bridge needing expanded or a second bridge needing built, yet you’re still able to find something to mansplain 🙃
-
Columbus: Downtown: Capital Line
That’s what I was thinking—Broad, including its bridge, is huge, so I really didn’t understand the hand wringing over it. In addition to all the lanes of travel for cars, the sidewalks on both sides are already incredibly wide too. There’s room for everything planned and then some. Once everything starts coming into place—LinkUS, Cap Line, additional SP dev, etc.—I really think Broad needs to be reduced to one lane of travel in both directions, at least from Gravity to High, plus other traffic calming, like raised crosswalks and/or additional speed bumps. There’s going to be waaaay too much going on in that area from a pedestrian and dev standpoint to continue to allow cars to blast through at 50+ MPH. Otherwise, there’s going to be a lot more pedestrian v. car and storefront v car incidents. If folks want to speed past this area, they need to find a different route. Also, I really want to see an SP-AD connector, but I really don’t believe we’re going to see that happen until development moves into the north parking lot, beside Vets. Right now, there’s just not enough on the SP side to justify it, in my mind.

amped91 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAccording to today’s CBF interview with Woods’ new CEO, they are working on utility relocation, but doesn’t sound like they are in any hurry to build. “The macro environment has not allowed us to execute the way we want to right now. And we don’t need to do bad deals. ... So right now we’re mostly spending our time on utility relocation for High and Hubbard and then just working with our retail partners to see how we can support their businesses.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/05/23/newsmaker-tyler-puhl.html

Columbus: Children's Hospital Projects
amped91 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI know there’s been speculation that it was going to be 15 stories, but I believe this is the first time it’s been reported as such in the media. Nationwide Children's starts construction on 15-story critical care tower “The project will extend the arc of the existing 12-story tower along Parsons Avenue, according to plans submitted to the city. Plans also include a new underground parking garage and a tunnel beneath Parsons Avenue that connects the main hospital to its growing west campus along Livingston Avenue. The 847,000-square-foot tower, an outpatient surgery center, another research buildings and other facilities are one portion of the $3.3 billion strategic plan announced three years ago. The plan also encompasses research, setting national pediatric behavioral health standards, adding new clinical specialties and reducing health disparities. The top floor will extend over a portion of the north end of the 2012 building, according to plans. A rendering included in March construction documents filed with the city shows an exterior facade similar to its sibling. The plans indicate that basement excavation started in January and the structure itself would start to rise in May.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/05/22/nationwide-childrens-tower-construction.html

Columbus: Affordable Housing Developments and News
Ohio Housing Finance Agency awards $16.3M to Central Ohio residential projects “Elevate 340 Fairfield Homes received approval for a $2.25 million Housing Development Loan for its Elevate 340 project at 340 E. Fulton St. in downtown Columbus. The apartment complex, located at the previous home of the Ohio Democratic Party offices, will include 74 units. The project underwent a redesign based on feedback from the downtown commission, which approved the development in March. The original proposal had about 60 units. Granville Woods Lofts Woda Cooper was approved for a $2 million Housing Development Loan and an $8.3 million in Ohio Low-Income Housing Tax Credits for Granville Woods Lofts at 1826 E. Livingston Ave. in Columbus' Driving Park neighborhood. The funds will support the construction of 58 units reserved for people earning 30% to 80% of the area median income. The affordable housing units are part of a broader mixed-income development that will include a total of 118 apartments.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/05/22/ohio-housing-finance-agency-central-ohio-projects.html Still disappointed with the overall design of 340, but more affordable housing downtown (even if it is the very edge of downtown lol) is a positive imo.
