Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Yeah, I look at it as more of a wish list, but I would love to see all of this happen. Would be nice to see that Convention Center lot get developed. I think the Confluence Park towers idea originated with the Rapid5 project.

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
Really transformational for the South Side, if this works out. Steelton Village: South Columbus neighborhood could get $350 million development with apartments, concert venues, brewery and more “The developers behind The Fort are preparing to add apartments, entertainment and dining to a 26-acre site just south of downtown as part of a $350 million project. The 130-year-old former Seagrave Co. fire manufacturing building, which Fortner Upholstery owner Justin McAllister bought in 2017, is already home to furniture makers, coffee roasters, architects, web designers and photographers. Pending city approval, McAllister plans to work with Buggyworks developer Kyle Katz to create a new mixed-use district dubbed Steelton Village, complete with 400,000 square feet of commercial space and 1,000 apartments. McAllister and Katz are currently in talks with several developers to take on the multifamily portion of the project. Katz said that construction on the apartments could start as early as next year. The pair anticipates the apartments would be on the opposite side of High Street from where the Fort currently stands. The residential buildings will be new construction, Katz said, but two-thirds of the project's ultimate commercial space will be in existing buildings.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/09/27/steelton-village-the-fort.html

The pedestrian bridge would also be a great addition, if it gets done this time. I would love having that quick connection between the Peninsula/East Franklinton and the AD.

amped91 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionPreschool planned for old Town Street mansion “Developers plan to convert an old mansion on East Town Street Downtown into a preschool, according to a plan presented to the city on Tuesday. The proposal calls for converting the 1850s-era mansion at 538 E. Town St. into the Sprout Early Education Center. Sprout plans to convert the building into a preschool after adding a small addition to a narrow wing connecting the Town Street building to the carriage house. A playground would also be added in the rear where a parking lot now sits. The Downtown Commission approved the change Tuesday, after some members expressed concern over traffic at the site during drop-off and pickup.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/09/27/downtown-mansion-could-become-preschool/69511954007/

Hilliard: Developments and News
First residences at Alton Place sold “The first of several residences at Alton Place, a $275-million mixed-use development at Alton Darby Creek and Roberts road in Hilliard, have been sold, though none are yet built. Construction has yet to start on Alton Place, but building permits were issued in June to Fischer Homes, Dwight McCabe, whose Dublin-Cosgray LLC is the developer of Alton Place, said Sept. 26. On Aug. 8, permits were issued and construction of paved roads is now underway in the first phase of Alton Place. The COVID-19 pandemic environment, supply-chain issues and fluctuating interest rates are but a few factors that combined to delay Alton Place, but McCabe said he “is looking forward to seeing houses coming out of the ground.”‘ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/communities/hilliard/2022/09/26/first-residences-at-alton-place-sold/69519836007/

Dublin: Developments and News
amped91 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionEase Logistics to establish new $25 million headquarters, nearly double workforce in Dublin “Ease Logistics, a multi-operational supply chain and transportation solutions provider, plans to restore a building at 6000 Perimeter Dr. in Dublin for its new headquarters, the company announced Monday in a news release. Ease Logistics is currently based at 5725 Avery Road, which is about 2 miles away from the new building. Pending local approvals, Ease Logistics will invest more than $25 million for real estate, repairs and sustainability measures in the building. It will also create 140 full-time jobs across all departments, including sales, account operations, marketing, accounting and IT. Those jobs will generate $7 million in new annual payroll. Ease today has more than 170 current full-time employees in Dublin, meaning the project will nearly double the company's local workforce. The newly renovated headquarters will be known as the Ease Building. The company says the revitalization project will bring the building up to city codes and guidelines, making it sustainable for the future as a global headquarters site. The renovation will focus on sustainable practices such as recycling materials used during construction, installing solar panels and using energy-saving lights.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/09/26/ease-logistics-new-headquarters-building-in-dublin.html

amped91 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHopefully not. At least it sounds like Hyperion is already getting involved in some energy projects in the state, and they’re not claiming to develop some totally new form of energy—which could sound more Theranos-y. I dunno enough about the company to say for sure one way or another, though.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything on this. From the Dispatch, an update on Harriet’s Hope: First-of-its-kind housing project for human trafficking victims gets funding to move ahead “The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority announced Thursday that it had secured a $15.6 million financing plan that paves the way to begin construction on an affordable housing community to serve survivors of human trafficking. The project, named Harriet’s Hope for slave-turned-abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who helped others escape slavery, is set to be built on the site of a former motel in Franklinton that was demolished last year. The project aims to serve as a haven for survivors of human trafficking and offer resources to give them independence. Harriet’s Hope is the first project of its kind in Ohio and most likely in the nation, advocates of human-trafficking survivors say. CMHA and Beacon 360 management secured funding from eight sources to construct the project, tentatively expected to be completed in late 2023. Funding sources include the Affordable Housing Trust of Columbus and Franklin County, the City of Columbus, state funding and other organizations like the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing. Catherine Cawthon, CEO of OCCH, said providing housing to survivors was step one.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2022/09/23/project-to-house-trafficking-victims-secures-funding-to-move-forward/69512923007/

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Sounds like the tower is open for guests, just too many visitors from the conference to hold them all there: ”The $264.5 million tower, whose 463 guest rooms make the Hilton Columbus Downtown the state's largest hotel, officially opened this month. This past weekend Columbus played host to a convention with more than 4,000 attendees — many of whom stayed in the new tower.” And another mention of the Convention Center train station: ”While the Hilton may be the last project Brown sees from start to finish, he hopes to help start the potential Amtrak station at the Greater Columbus Convention Centers before his successor takes over. The Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority envisions a two-level station at the center, near the intersection of High Street and Nationwide Boulevard. Brown said he has high hopes Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will throw his support behind the project, which he said could take three to five years to complete.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/09/22/hilton-columbus-downtown-don-brown-fccfa-retiring.html

Columbus: Bars / Nightlife News
Skateboarding-inspired brewery opens new Short North taproom “Located at 765 N. High St., the skateboard crew turned brewery opened its first public brick and mortar spot to the public last week, with a massive turnout. The chic new space features graffiti art, skateboarding artifacts, and more. Half Baked also operates a private members-only bar in Merrion Village, which is largely dedicated to art. Half Baked has existed as a brewery for several years before the new High Street space opened. It hosted fundraisers, skating events and massive concerts where its beer was available. The brewery has also been available in different Columbus businesses since the beginning of 2022. Its beer Unicorn Punch–served with a Pop Rocks-rimmed glass–is available at Mikey’s Late Night Slice locations, on draft and in cans.” https://614now.com/2022/food-drink/skateboard-inspired-brewery-opens-new-short-north-taproom

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Yeah this sounds like really big news. Maybe not Intel level big, but still transformative nonetheless. So it’s weird that it’s been hard to come by much news on it. Do you have a link to this article? Unrelated, but this is probably a good idea: Columbus may increase the minimum wage to qualify for economic development incentives to $20 an hour “Columbus city staff are recommending Columbus City Council raise the minimum required wage to get an incentive from the city from $15 an hour to somewhere between $18.50 and $20 an hour. City staffers were scheduled to present the recommendation during a Tuesday evening hearing. A second hearing will be held in October, ahead of a future council vote. The city evaluates whether the minimum wage requirement should be raised or lowered every three years. Quinten Harris, the city's deputy director of economic development, told Columbus Business First his department conducted a deep dive into the data around wages in the city as well as a review of the companies that have received incentives in recent years. The Development Department frequently uses a 10-year, 75% abatement to get a company to invest in Columbus. The city also often uses job growth incentives, which offer income tax breaks in exchange for new jobs created. Both the abatements and tax breaks require companies pay at least the city's designated wage.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/09/20/columbus-wages-economic-incentives.html

I think I’ve still seen a crew working on it, but with all of the Ramp Up construction/lane changes, I don’t really go by much anymore. I’ll have to make a trip past here soon. As recently as July, Schooley Caldwell was working with the BD commission to get the design for the front addition approved.

amped91 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe first one I found under the zoning applications search engine. You may need to adjust the start date a couple years back, since it defaults to 2019. And I searched a range of 1580-1620 Oak, since I wasn’t sure which address they were using for the projects (Looks like 1600 Oak for the primary project and 1599 specifically for the apartments). The second one I found under the engineering applications search engine, using the same parameters.

Columbus: Franklin Park / Trolley District Developments and News
amped91 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDid a bit more digging this afternoon, and this must’ve been what we were thinking of: The plans submitted in 2019 had one 102-unit apartment building and a separate retail building. The plans states the retail spot would serve the on site brewery. Plans also included a sketch of both buildings. About this time last year, new plans were submitted with two apartment buildings with covered parking and a fitness center. The FSCP that @cbussoccerposted was just submitted yesterday and no documents are available to view yet, but the description only mentions the singular “apartment building” again, so I guess we’ll see what we end up getting.
