  1. I’m sitting out in public currently, and this quote from the developer has me laughing out loud, especially after this morning’s discussion in the Clintonville thread. 🤣🤣 https://columbusunderground.com/six-story-building-proposed-for-vacant-high-street-site-bw1/
  2. I can’t find anything about residential, but I do think the owner should’ve used this time to add some residential. Although I guess it’s also possible the building’s design may have made res conversion too expensive/impractical. I dunno. From what I’ve read, sounds like a lot more added amenity space in addition to modernizing the building.
  3. Renovations at the Fifth Third Center continue.
  4. And just like that, it was as if millions of NIMBYs suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. ☺️
  5. Yeah, thankfully some of the top comments are now pretty reasonable, but once you start getting into the weeds. *shudder* It seems most of the time with comment sections and Reddit, Cbus discussion is overrun with Joe Motil-type regressive progressives, as @DTCL11 aptly described it, on one side, where nothing is allowed to be built bc of displacement (which just makes displacement worse in the long run). And on the other side, you have the conspiracy-minded type, where nothing should be built bc Cbus is part of the liberal agenda to give criminals free homes that should go to working people (or something like that). That’s why I like this place, since we can have actual discussion that goes beyond the talking points that dominate on those other forums.
  6. Oh perfect. I’m looking forward to reading your comments in the meeting minutes 😉 Thankfully my neighborhood isn’t overrun by NIMBY types yet, but we’ve also only really seen small scale dev so far. We’ll see what the next several years will bring.
  7. Sounds like Intel is finding the capital… Intel signs a $30B partnership deal to help fund its new fabs “Intel Corp. on Tuesday announced what it called a "first-of-its-kind" partnership to help fund its ambitious factory expansion plans. The Santa Clara semiconductor giant has entered a $30 billion partnership with Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Under the deal, Intel will retain control over the two new fabs it's building in Chandler, Arizona. But Brookfield will help pay for them, and will share in the revenue that comes from them. Intel is also planning to spend up to $100 billion each on new facilities it plans in Ohio and Germany. It hopes to replicate the co-investment model it is using in Arizona with other partners for its other factories, it said. The Brookfield deal is expected to provide a $15 billion cumulative benefit to Intel's adjusted free cash flow and to add to its earnings per share during the construction and ramp phase, the chipmaker said.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/08/24/intel-strikes-30b-factory-partnership.html
  8. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go to these meetings. Good Ol’ Joe is a commission member. Nothing says quirky like a CFA drive thru and a Chase bank! 🙄 And it sounds like the commission is already coming up with excuses to not support: “David Vottero, chairperson of the Clintonville Area Commission, said the proposal has a lot of positive aspects but he’s concerned over the fifth floor and number of units. “I’d like to see this development move forward,” Vottero said. “I think it’s a little too intensive” because of the potential effect on the on-street parking.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2022/08/24/company-plans-to-build-6-5-story-apartment-building-near-clintonville/ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/communities/clintonville/2022/08/23/revised-mixed-use-project-slated-to-return-to-cac/
  9. Glad this is getting started soon. Looks like it has a name now too. Work to begin on Columbus Castings redevelopment “Work is about to begin on the long-awaited redevelopment of the former Columbus Castings site, a 71-acre South Side landmark that has sat vacant for years. Stonemont Financial Group, based in Atlanta, plans to break ground the first week in September on three buildings totaling 859,240 square feet on the South Parsons Avenue site, which will be renamed Castings Commerce Park. "The buildings are geared toward distribution or manufacturing," said Stonemont Vice President Dusten Estes. "They are highly flexible." Estes said the buildings, which will be completed in about a year, have already drawn interest from potential users. "We've talked with probably four or five prospective tenants," he said. "There's been a very good reception."’ https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/08/24/columbus-castings-redevelopment-jobs-south-side/
  10. An urban Chili’s. Interesting 🤔 Chili’s Heads for the University District “Chili’s (Baby Back Ribs) will open its fourth area location this fall at 1400 N. High St. The Dallas-based chain will take up residence at mixed-use development Uncommon, which sits just north of King Avenue. Representatives from Chili’s confirmed the restaurant is aiming for a Mid-October opening. The University Impact District Review Board has also approved wall signage for the new eatery. Chili’s currently has three locations in Central Ohio – Hamilton Quarter near New Albany, Polaris and Dublin.” https://columbusunderground.com/bites-sips-chilis-heads-for-campus-2-new-restaurants-middle-west-expands-distribution-more-sp1/
  11. From the IV September agenda: Jeffrey Park getting a new mural: And the SN gets a new pharmacy:
  12. Three story, 25 unit urban infill Almond Avenue Flats project on E Gay in KLB neighborhood. Posting it since I don’t recall ever reading about it, and I happened to come across it today.
  13. https://www.clintonvilleareacommission.org At a church, according to their website. I’m not sure if Clintonville requires you to be a member of the neighborhood to attend, or if it’s open to all. Voting is generally kept to those who live within the boundaries of a given civic association.
  14. Sounds like the commission was supportive of the project. Brad DeHays reveals renderings for downtown building owned by Columbus Partnership “The commission had positive feedback on the proposed project. DeHays plans to go back before the commission for a certificate of appropriateness later this fall. The developer, known for his historic rehabilitation efforts, said the roughly $50 million project won't be able to happen without historic tax credits. DeHays should find out this winter if he lands the credits. If he does, work could start as early as the beginning of next year. Construction work would take about two years.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/08/23/brad-dehays-columbus-partnership-odfjs-downtown.html
  15. Looks good. Fingers crossed maybe the Clintonville commission will come to their senses.
  16. I was already thinking we’d hit 3 million a year or two before 2050. With Intel and all their friends coming to town, I’m going to guess it’s closer to 2045. And I’m glad to see the new county court house mentioned in the article too. I’m hoping we at least see some plans for that this year.
  17. A handful of friends and I had spent time in Athens for grad work and frequented Jackie O’s down there, so we’ve been patiently waiting for the patio to open up. Thanks for the update!
  18. A couple more articles on Dublin dev from CBF: Multi-tenant commercial building planned for second phase of mixed-use development in Dublin “Columbus-based Daimler Group, in partnership with the city of Dublin, looks to add to The Corners development on a 13-acre site on the west side of Frantz Road, north of Rings Road and south of Blazer Parkway. At full buildout, the development will include some 70,000 square feet of restaurant, service-oriented retail, neighborhood-scale office and public park space. The next step for the project is a roughly 7,100-square-foot facility planned for construction on vacant land at the intersection of Rings and Frantz roads, city records show. The majority of the building would house Dental Reflections, currently located at 5080 Bradenton Ave. in Dublin, and the remaining space would support a future tenant. The dental office would take about 5,800 square feet and the other tenant would occupy nearly 1,300 square feet.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/08/22/commercial-building-with.html VanTrust ready to start building Dublin industrial project “A construction timeline is set for a new industrial building in Dublin, where an active player in the Columbus market hopes to lure technology firms, light manufacturers or logistics/distribution companies. VanTrust Real Estate, a Kansas City-based developer with an office in Grandview Heights, will begin construction on its Crosby Court 140 projectwithin the next one to two weeks. The speculative industrial building will be complete in the second quarter of 2023, VanTrust Director of Development Brice Harrison told me. The more than 140,000-square-foot facility is being built on over 9 acres of land at 6777 Crosby Court, which is located in the West Innovation District — a roughly 1,110-acre site the city hopes to develop into walkable space for mixed-use and research and innovation projects. The Crosby Court 140 building will include 12 dock doors and will have 32-foot clear height. VanTrust, which is working with local brokerage Lee & Associates on the project, says the facility is designed to support up to three or four tenants, but it would also work for one large end user. No tenants have been signed thus far, but Harrison said potential end users could include technology firms, light manufacturers or logistics/distribution companies.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/08/22/vantrust-industrial-spec-project-dublin.html
  19. It’s really surprising to me no one has bought that property up and finished construction, especially with how much more expensive materials have been—half the material is already there.
  20. Lmao silly Daily Mail. Not sure what kind of point the writer is trying to make, since Cbus is also a “Democrat-run city.”
  21. I know they built a new surgery suite a couple years back. I’m sure the rest of the campus renovations are still years away. I hope whenever they do decide to tear the tower down, it’s replaced with something that’s just as iconic.
  22. An update on this project: Residence and restaurant development first up for re-imagined Metro Center “A plan to construct a 111,000-square-foot, 4-story building with 175 residential units and 8,400 square feet of commercial space is to advance on 2 ½ acres at the southwest corner of Frantz Road and Upper Metro Place. The proposal is significant because “it will set the stage” for the future redevelopment of Metro Place, developer Dwight McCabe, of McCabe Cos., said Aug. 18. The Dublin Planning and Zoning Commission on July 7 unanimously approved a concept plan for the proposal. The next step is for McCabe to present a preliminary development plan, at his discretion, for consideration before the planning and zoning commission, according to Tammy Noble, a senior planner for the city of Dublin. McCabe said he intends to present the preliminary development plan that is eligible for consideration at the Sept. 15 meeting of the planning and zoning commission.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/communities/dublin/2022/08/19/residence-and-restaurant-development-first-up-for-re-imagined-metro-center/
  23. The one in the article is from GVX. Are any renderings for the Franklinton project out yet? I’m not holding my breath for anything taller than six stories here. However, something with some height would look great on the Graham Ford site as it gets closer to 315.
  24. Meh, pretty standard suburban project. Hope this doesn’t mean the law office will be vacating Downtown. New building proposed in Dublin to house Shihab & Associates law office, fitness center “An immigration law firm with a presence in Columbus is planning a new office in Dublin that would also include a fitness center tenant. The single-story, approximately 10,500-square-foot building proposed at the intersection of Woerner Temple Road and Emerald Parkway would be constructed for Shihab & Associates — an attorney with an existing office at 65 E. State St. in downtown Columbus. A second tenant is described in city documents as a fitness center, though a name was not given. An informal review and feedback session for the project will be held during the Dublin Planning & Zoning Commission meeting Sept. 1.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/08/19/shihab-associates-law-office-fitness-center-dublin.html
