  1. Was at Easton today, and inside the Station building, where the AMC box office was formerly located, there is signage up stating an Amazon 4 Star location is coming soon. As far as I can tell, this will only be the second location in the state. I went to the one in Seattle while I was visiting, and it was sort of a neat idea. Although, I’d prefer to see an Amazon Go come to Columbus.
  2. The Cody? 🧐 Okay… Former NASCAR driver plans first development near New Albany “After years of preparation, Coughlin said he is ready to unveil his first project: a $15 million, 96-unit apartment complex on Hamilton Road near New Albany. The development, named The Cody, aims to bring what Coughlin calls "boutique resort living" to Central Ohio. He said the project will emphasize relaxation, tranquility and nature appreciation. He said he believes this will be more intimate and create a stronger community at the development, which sits at 7095 N. Hamilton Road in Westerville, near New Albany. The Cody will offer 24 one-bedroom units, 48 two-bedroom flats and 24 two-bedroom townhomes, Coughlin said. Rents will range from $1,110 for the one-bedroom units to $1,520 for the two-bedroom townhomes. The two-bedroom flats will cost $1,470.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/02/24/cody-coughlin-plans-new-albany-development.html
  3. Based on these numbers and the amount of proposed residential units, I think it’s possible we could see a downtown population of 20,000 by the 2030 census. I would love to see the downtown population surpass its peak at some point in my lifetime.
  4. Looks like some positive changes to the proposal: Two apartment buildings proposed for Dodge Park area in Franklinton “The Dodge Park area in Franklinton could see two new apartment buildings go up this year. Brian Higgins of Arch City Development has proposed a five-story, 47-unit building on the site of a former gas station and a three-story building with six studio flats where a single-family house now stands. He said he hopes to break ground in the fall. Higgins originally proposed a four-story apartment building at 640 W. Town St with a 20-space surface parking lot behind it. The new proposal shows 31 spaces, with some ground-floor parking inside the building.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/02/23/arch-city-franklinton.html
  5. Wood Cos. reveals plans for 12-story Short North building “According to Franklin County Auditor's records, the Hubbard Avenue property has been owned by an LLC affiliated with Wood Cos. since 2004. The new building would include two ground-floor retail spaces; one would be 2,100 square feet and the other 2,600 square feet. There will be two floors of parking and one floor of about 10,000 square feet of office space, according to plans submitted to the Victorian Village Commission. On top of that would sit eight stories of apartments, with units ranging about about 1,100 square feet to 1,600 feet. Plans show a rooftop pool and clubhouse area on the top floor. There would also be a fitness center on that level. The Victorian Village Commission will consider the plans on a conceptual basis March 9.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/02/22/wood-cos-reveals-plans-to-redevelop.html
  6. Lots of nice pictures in CU’s latest construction update: https://columbusunderground.com/construction-roundup-february-2022-edition-we1/
  7. Parkside hasn’t started yet? 😵‍💫
  8. My top 3 would prob be improved public transit, more restaurants, and more entertainment options. I would like to be able to go to a cinema or a bowling alley without leaving straying so far out of the city center (and Pins doesn’t count lol).
  9. I like how this, the Copious redev, and the just announced VV tower are preserving the older, existing architecture on the street while building higher behind. Between everything that’s coming soon, under construction and planned in the Discovery District, there’s going to be a pretty good population concentration there. Fingers crossed we see some pretty good amenities following along.
  10. Hopefully they’ll get to stay if this tower goes through. It looks like the portion of the building that houses the Hubbard Grill will remain intact.
  11. Well that looks impressive. Are there any businesses currently in the building at the site or is it vacant?

Taken from Riverside. All of OSU’s construction is really prominent from this vantage point. Can even see the Hilton 2.0 crane if you zoom in.
  13. I wonder how much longer until Lykens starts on their Lusso project? IIRC, it got approval, but I’ve not seen any movement on site yet.
  14. I don’t remember hearing about those ones before, but would be great if they both go up. There’s so many gaps along Broad in Franklinton. And all throughout Franklinton, really.
  15. High Street's 'Fort' complex plans further renovation “A turn-of-the-century building that once housed Seagrave Fire Truck Manufacturing and now is home to office space will soon add more features, including a potential coffee shop and retail space. The 230,000-square-foot complex is now called “The Fort.” Justin McAllister, owner and president of Fortner Upholstering, bought the properties at 2000-2060 S. High St. for about $1.1 million in 2017. Fortner Upholstery moved into the facility in 2018 and takes up about a quarter of the space. McAllister plans to renovate about 42,000 square feet of currently vacant space to create new office space, space for a coffee shop and other retail space on the south side of the 2050 S. High St. building. McAllister said he would love to see a taproom come into the renovated part of the building, too. McAllister said there will be creative or industrial loft space ranging from 600 square feet to 7,000 square feet. McAllister also plans a second phase of renovation in the future, for the remaining 60,000 square feet of the building that is vacant. McAllister said the renovation will add to the small business ecosystem they're creating in The Fort. McAllister said he hopes making The Fort a mixed-use building will make it attractive to new office tenants. He hopes to start the project this year and finish renovations next year.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/02/18/the-fort.html
  16. I wonder if they could do something similar to the plan for Gravity 3.0? That way CVS gets their single story, and a drive thru would still be possible, but you could much better utilize the space. Even if CVS is being difficult, I don’t think that gives Castro an excuse for something so unimaginative and bland, and that wastes precious space.
  17. Parsons and Livingston CVS gets to go next! I really like this proposal though. Hopefully it gets approval soon and leads to more height along High.
  18. Former Columbus Blue Jacket finds second career at JBM Development, plans first development in Obetz The more than $50 million project will have a 5,500-square-foot clubhouse that will house a 24-hour fitness center, heated pool, game room, business center and other amenities, according to its website. It is expected to break ground in May of this year and wrap up at the end of 2023, Baur said. Daimler Group is the general contractor and Berardi Partners is the project's architect. Baur said the firm's objective is to help combat the housing shortage in Central Ohio by addressing areas outside of I-270, such as Licking and Pickaway counties. The firm has three other projects under contract that they cannot disclose, Baur and Dubinsky said. These projects take up about 600 acres across three sites.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/02/18/former-columbus-blue-jacket-starts-jbm-development.html
  19. If that’s the case, with such a prime piece of real estate, I would rather try just wait until the lease ends to redevelop then, when they can do something more significant.
  20. Thanks for sharing that. I’ll be sure to send an email. With the insane incoming population and being in one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods, you would think it would be a no brainer to better utilize the land they have there.
  21. Yeah, no. This is barely even an improvement over what’s currently there. Watch this one fly through approval in record time 🙄
  22. Yeah, that’s along the lines of what I was thinking, too. Cbus and Cincy are basically “stops” on the way to Sunbelt metros. I’m hoping with Intel, Hyperion, and (I’m sure) whatever else comes next we can both retain and attract more. Mainly because I think it’ll be great for our innovation, research and start up industries to have so many educated, talented folks in the area.
  23. ^Thats really awesome; thanks for posting that! It’s not surprising that so much out-migration from Cbus and Cincy is to sunbelt metros; it’s interesting that very little of Cle’s loss is to the Sunbelt, though. Looks like most ex-Clevelanders choose to stay in Ohio.
  24. I’m thinking WPR hasn’t updated their data with 2020 census numbers either, which had showed that both Ohio and Columbus population growth had been underestimated. I wonder if the official 2020 numbers would change the estimate by much.
  25. Good. Now, tell us what you have planned for the downtown Greyhound bus site.
