  1. Makes sense now why some folks object to discussing CLE crime, at least in areas where they have $$ at-risk in a hot market.
  2. So 10 people, 7 “adults” and 3 minors rescued from lake ice today. Kids will be kids (no ages provided as of yet ) and hopefully no adult actually took them on the ice or was responsible for their safety and supervision. County DCFS needs to be contacted whether or not these kids were with adults.
  3. All complete idiots. Natural Selection writ large. Anyone that grew up here knows about the year round dangers of the lake; from undertows, winter ice, and high fecal counts. At least the general toxicity of the water issue seems to be a thing of the past though and the “bacteria” issue will be soon. Since this is the CLE thread, these rescued morons need to be fined as in the cost of being rescued. Can’t be good feeling being on a what is now a Lake Erie ice flo.

Tends to happen in nonsense threads...thanks for continuing the theme.

What a thread!...the “Believe All Women” mantra seems to be gone now that you mention it. Tara Reade, Joe Biden’s Senate aide and sexual assault victim, pretty much put a stake in that. This Reade-Biden issue took a lot of the wind outta the #MeToo thing as well, perhaps even fatally. Does Sen Corey Booker’s sexual groping in a men’s room count as “toxic masculinity”? The same Senator along with Kamala Harris who scoured a high school yearbook in a Senate confirmation hearing looking for evidence of sexual assault-rape “toxic masculinity”. Only thing discovered was “flatulence” jokes and beer drinking games. Are flatulence jokes/references or beer drinking games considered “toxic masculinity” now?
  6. Love the “St Patrick’s Day week of festivities”...well deserved and needed. Let’s hope it’s a huge hit.
  7. Got it. I actually thought it was 20 years in CLE until I checked. And yes both should be 15 years, if, in fact, “rehabs” are 12 years. Restored, rehabbed CLE homes are just as important for the city as ground-up new construction as both attract buyers, some want the old original homes while others want the new ones...win-win for CLE.
  8. Great news...CLE needs as many resident taxpayers with paychecks as possible to offset the tax-takers. These home rehabs/flips should be 15 year tax abated like new construction is. At least these well to do home buyers will spend some of their $$ in the city. CLE needs to build its retail base to capture as much of this new $$ as possible.
  9. Just proves that just throwing $$ isn’t the solution..see also Cleveland Public Schools for example.
  10. Need to include inept local government as well for SV demise.
  11. Wow, after 7 years...+ 1 year of COVID, oh, and looted, POUR has closed its downtown location. Hoping things get going again by mid-spring and the NFL Draft can really pull people into town for the hotels and businesses. But, like POUR, many businesses, especially downtown, are barely surviving as this pandemic continues in February heading into year 2. Geigers closing is also a major loss. Light at the end of the tunnel though... I think we’ll see a downtown summer resurgence but what a setback this year has been.
  12. Great actual news. Now we wait for final plans and size of these buildings.
  13. Some kind of “notice” that this is SW no doubt. Currently one would never know SW is headquartered in CLE.
  14. Magistrate setting bond at $3 million is another example of using her position to send an advanced message that “this white cop is a dangerous predator guilty of murder” as well as enhancing her “woke” cred generally and her political future in particular. Violent career criminals this cop faced on a daily basis never saw bond this high. meanwhile Columbus homicides going off the charts. of course this absurd bond was reduced by a judge actually doing his job.
  15. Columbus is a classic example of The Floyd Effect.
  16. Primarily I don’t like the color and could deal with the design as it is becoming more popular. I like the hotel set up, the location of the project but think the color is too drab to be sitting there at such a prominent location and this building will, obviously, stand out. At least the planned tower on the viaduct or wherever it is supposed to be may offset this.
  17. The “Cleveland jokes” were started by Cleveland folks as well back in the ‘60s. The “Cleveland jokes” replaced the “Polish jokes” in Hollywood.
  18. I don’t understand being charged with murder and felonious assault. Dereliction of Duty is related to? Failure to turn body cam on? I also don’t get politicians (mayors, governors, presidents etc) making opinions, firing cops, and being happy a cop is indicted. This is a national thing though and not just Columbus. Prejudicial comments and behavior before any fact finding. Out of context video clips. Lots of political grandstanding for “woke” cred. This $3 million bond is for show. the key narrative here is white cop shoots/kills black male. At least Columbus released this cop’s body cam video but that’s not always the case nationwide; Minneapolis, for example, never released cops’ body cam videos from the George Floyd matter. Not sure this will end in a murder conviction though based. Tragic situation regardless.
  19. Yet they can’t enforce thefts when it comes to fares. The system should be free for everyone. Actually RTA recently announced free passes for pregnant women in Glenville, East Cleveland, and collinwood due to their lack of access to transportation to medical facilities. This being RTA’s attempt to help combat CLE’s 3rd world country infant mortality rate. No fares for anyone using RTA. Of course the union is against that though.
  20. Well then don’t throw out there that’s the latest delay is due to design, just go with sh!t happens like you are now. Sh!t happens but this world renowned architecture firm can’t come up with plans until now 2022? I don’t buy that, then again it’s all based on rumors. rumors care OK but a possible reconfiguration topic isn’t allowed because it’s a “conspiracy” I’m not the only poster who mentioned this design delay excuse either. For a thread that started when Bush 44 was in office, delays and glacial movement should be expected I suppose. you actually believe this CK firm or whatever can’t come up with design plans? The article said some SW officials didn’t like the plans presented a few months ago. Now it’s just “sh!t happens? Nice.
  21. Who’s mad? I’m well aware of SW September announcement about full staffing downtown. Didn’t say it was a certainty but design plans and new expected groundbreaking delays taking 2 years from September 2019 ? SW also said it wanted it the project done 2023, 2024...now it’s 2025. That’s all. There’s a delay and I doubt its because of “design”.
  22. Agreed but RTA cops are generally hindered in doing their jobs. Recall the film festival attendee getting arrested at W 117th for giving attitude and not allowing her fare card to be adequately verified. Big blow up there as well. imagine though if RTA was “free”? I get the security issue but why have a police force that can’t enforce rules? Ridership May plummet for some but if its all free, there will be a large offset with the RTA cops’ hands tied. That’s why I suggested getting rid of them all together. of course the media will promote the race card with the RTA police. Wasn’t that the angle in eliminating having RTA police check fares on the trains and healthline? Red Line is free other than TC...is anyone doing fare enforcement otherwise on these lines?
  23. Is RTA enforcing any “mask” mandate? I used the Red Line last August and no one, including RTA employees, was wearing a mask. Some had one on but down on their chin. I suppose though that RTA can’t enforce any mask rule if it can’t enforce fare collection on its former “fare honesty” policy on the trains and healthline. I ask because you stated the trains were busy
  24. I noticed the lack of fare enforcement on the Red Line except if you use the Tower City station with the turnstiles and RTA cop/s present. One could easily use the Red Line for free now unless you’re going thru TC. Free ride between all the other stations it seems. Are RTA cops allowed to enforce fare collections for those opting to not pay? Wasn’t the Health Line neutered from its original design because RTA cops were enforcing fare collection by spot checking passengers’ fare cards because a CLE muni judge finding that fare enforcement was a 4th amendment violation? All premised on the fact that the vast majority of fare violators were black. This erroneous ruling went unchallenged of course. not only do away with fare collecting but get rid of the RTA police. I recall a video of RTA cops under fire by a mob on Euclid Avenue near I think CSU a couple years ago. They can’t do their job so get rid of them altogether. Too much controversy enforcing the law generally now. Plus getting rid of the RTA police will save a lot of $ and help in making up for the lost fare revenue.
  25. Are cities allowed to enforce loitering laws though? Thought the ACLU or some other group fought against loitering laws. That’s why we see loitering outside businesses, especially food retail etc. Guys panhandling at the doors, opening doors as you enter/exit and expecting $ for their “service”. It’s ridiculous. not sure about CLE but some cities can’t have someone removed from their business; cops have to call in a supervisor. Cops can’t touch these folks inside businesses. Restrooms must be open to the public, non customers off the street have to be accommodated. It’s a total mess. This could be more of a “blue progressive” city issue though and perhaps not a CLE issue so much.
