Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I agree...SW needs a trophy skyscraper on its hometown Public Square. Taller the better and not a Cincy styled P&G campus. one would never know SW is headquartered in CLE. A sleek modern 21st century skyscraper does that. let’s get the plans released. We need some good news!

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Im still hoping for that “will rival Key Tower” skyscraper on the square...yet as long as these seas of parking lots finally disappear is all that matters.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Just heard a mid career highly professional couple, chicago refugees, moved to CLE as of Jan 1. Dude is from CLE but both wanted out of chicago river north especially after the 2nd round of looting in august....I guess the open gun battles on the Magnificent Mile was the last straw. This couple lived near the Ronald McDonald House in streeterville that was attacked at 3am leaving staff, sick kids, and their families terrified and cowering inside on the upper floors. hopefully CLE can milk some more people out of CHI as many want outta there...and for good reason.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
To be clear, the crime essay you mention is about “violent crime”. Also, the tech issue in CMSD isn’t about removing all tech, more about learning ie. math by hand as well as good old fashioned reading books. Kindle is fine at times but this guy does have a point. The decades of CLE education woes isn’t due to a lack of $.

have you seen who’s moving into the White House on Jan 20?

Cleveland: West Side Market News & Info
Right, common sense is what is currently lacking. Common sense and results always trump paper and “other” qualifications. no one is saying there’s tumble weeds blowing through the WSM only that the City needs to step aside. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another agenda by this Hall-Cox team though. What is going on here otherwise? The WSM has always reflected CLE’s ethnic heritage, especially Eastern European flavor, and it doesn’t need to become another victim of CLE politics.

Cleveland: West Side Market News & Info
What a disgrace. The WSM becomes a national jewel in urban markets the past 10 years or so and the city hires a manager in 2015 citing infrastructure issues as part of her strategy and within a few years the place is emptying out with crumbling infrastructure and rising fees being the big issue. This Felicia Hall has no retail experience but when she was appointed the job, the first African American to manage the WSM is cited before any experience or credentials. Who cares if the qualifications are otherwise lacking...on line MBA from Univ of Phoenix...c’mon...no retail or experience to run such an important local asset. How did she get this job? all overseen by this Cox dude at city hall...Cox is an embedded city worker and has been in CLE city hall since 1972. a 3 year consultancy? Wtf how the basics of management ie. Infrastructure are neglected for years is beyond comprehension. Attracting people will not happen until, at a minimum, the place is in good repair. as far as parking..uh, there’s a red line station right there. Promote it, get people on the trains again, especially on Saturdays. Spend the day in the area. The 25th Street station needs to be revamped ASAP though. Place is miserable and is now about 30 years old and outdated for 25 years. The WSM a is a great people and $$ magnet for the city. perhaps the most ominous part of this story is the fear of retaliation on vendors if they publicly complain. This says it all.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Just checking today’s Fairview Park availability: with 41 listings, 33 are pending-contingent with 8 available homes, 2 of which are new listings. I know a few people that have left Chicago for CLE west side/suburbs.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Why is CLE unique in the missed-to-slow spring real estate market due to COVID-19? CLE’s market inventory barely budged between 2018-2019 yet dropped 40%+ between Oct.2019-Oct. 2020. Something else is going on besides COVID...it’s demand and homes moving off market in 2 weeks shot up from 18% to 40%+ 2019-2020.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Interesting that Forbes has CLE as the 5th hottest housing market today. Of the 15 cities listed, CLE ranked #5 followed by Midwestern cities Indy (8), Grand Rapids (11), and Omaha (15).

Cleveland: Population Trends
It does matter when the part of it is say urban renewal, which was a ‘60s era term for planned redevelopment in U S cities that had not so great results in Cleveland. Planned being the key word and hopefully lesson learned. CLE’s Erieview urban renewal is exhibit A on this and is, of course, nowhere near as destructive as the subsequent ‘70s urban crisis. CLE had the busiest firehouse between NYC and Chicago. of course this was all underwritten by the U S industrial and manufacturing collapse rooted in the mid ‘60s. Add the fact that CLE has been the benefactor and more so the victim of many social experiments and well, you see what you have now.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Morgan may be a character but he wasn’t real cool when I brought a group of out of towners in there a year or so ago. Talk about a wet blanket; dude made a bad impression. Now I see he has his hand out to pay for relocating his business. Hmm. I used to go to Moriaritys before this Morgan guy bought it but it is too bad to see another downtown joint closing.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Urban renewal demolitions? You mean in 1960s downtown CLE? Otherwise, the demolitions that went on from that time forward in the neighborhoods, especially the east side were arson related and later just plain old abandonment.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Unfortunately for Cleveland, it’s population continues to decline so reputation still matters, especially with violent crime. I’ll work on taking the drama out of stating homicides, carjackings, and other violent crime going on in CLE but how is someone supposed to make a 13 year old kid killed in a drug deal not be too dramatic? there’s a difference between reputation and reality.
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
So no one can mention crime in the CLE crime thread? Doesn’t make sense. this thread was just locked because it was taken off topic. The topic is crime here. that said, CLE still has a bad crime reputation so I get to a point that some locals don’t like hearing about reality.

Cleveland: The Term "Northeast Ohio"
Used to be known as Greater Cleveland...sprawl mostly to blame for this NEO Ohio gimmick. Greater Cleveland has been diluted to NEO Ohio now. CLE had a real bad reputation as well, since improved somewhat though. the population used to be close to 3 million when it was CLE-Akron census count. Census reconfigured MSAs so now we have separate CLE MSA and Akron MSA...makes sense then that this area is now NEO Ohio. No mention of CLE at all.
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
It’s the Cleveland Crime thread so why are you going off topic with NYC and Columbus news? Who says this is unique to CLE? CLE has a much higher homicide rate than either of these 2 cities anyway and has a much worse reputation than either as well.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Looks like there’s a bit of an update here...boy was a 13 year old killed during a drug deal turned robbery. Kid killed as the vehicle he was in was driving away; one of the robbers opened fire on vehicle killing this kid. This going down on a Monday evening (6:40pm) on Ohio City’s w 25th street. also, while this thread was locked, last week there was another armed carjacking in Kamms Corners/West Park...mid-week 1pm armed carjacking at W158/Munn Road. Not a good trend going on in what is or was considered CLE “cop land”. Carjacking at W28/Church last week as well at 5pm. CLE still seriously struggling with its violent crime reputation.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
12 year old boy shot and killed at w 25th/Franklin in Ohio city this evening. A man was shot and killed in Detroit-Shoreway (65th/Lawn) 40 minutes earlier. These are homicides 179 and 180 to date this year. CLE 2019 homicide total was 133. CLE has seen 12 minors killed to date this year with 2 minors killed in the last 5 days. 8 minors under 17 shot in CLE since November 17. CLE can expect at least another 8 homicides based on this year’s rate.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Cleveland’s 173rd homicide took place Monday evening in Kamms Corners, an area seeing a rash of armed carjackings lately as well. A 19 yo male shot and killed in a vehicle as he and another male were leaving a funeral service. Car pulled up and opened fire killing the 19 yo driver, passenger exited car and returned fire. Obviously a retaliation killing meant for either or both of these dudes. really? Open gunfire shoot-out at Lorain/Triskett? On a Monday night at 8pm? then again, an armed carjacking took place right in here at Geppetos pizza recently. not only is the total and frequency out of hand again, so is the rate of homicides. We’re comparing 1991 totals which CLE is about to surpass when the city still had 500,000 population; today, CLE estimated pop. is 380,000 and seeing gun violence-homicides at a 30 year high. When Mayor Jackson’s own home was tracked to gun violence and cops have to invade the place and then see pics of an armed teenaged gang-banger posing in Jackson’s driveway with a fan of $20s and a CPD vehicle is visible in the background, well...oh, and throw in the latest national war on police depts, whether it’s defunding or disbanding (I mean who else wants that other than white SJWs and criminal thugs?)...and we have a recipe for a lot of lost lives, mainly black males 16-34 in CLE and across the nation.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Great..a homegrown Beachwood criminal...didn’t need to use I 271 to get there lol. still, 6 shootings at CLE upscale mall in 3 years is not a good sign whether these losers walk there, drive, use I271, the RTA...throw in a flash mob rampage and well...
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Just repeating what was mentioned in the article..but yes all those things you list. I 271 is easy ingress-egress from beachwood place for drug deals as much as regular shoppers though. Certainly I 271 isn’t the source of the problem and no one is stating that.
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
What’s up with Beachwood Place? This place makes the news for all the wrong reasons. I remember some kind of flash mob incident/s a couple-few years ago on national news and thinking “in Beachwood at Beachwood Place?” this being or was CLE’s upscale mall. Another parking lot shooting at 2pm yesterday. 5 shootings in 3 years with parking lot drug dealing being an issue due to I-271 access...wtf? Now excellent interstate highway parking lot access has to consider the drug trade using the same access? Unbelievable.

Cleveland Waterfront Line Extension / Downtown Loop
Not only does this Waterfront Line need a downtown loop, I would branch it west via Superior-Detroit Avenues. Hell, reopen the Detroit-Superior viaduct. Take it to W 98 station and out through Lakewood. imagine a one seat train ride from downtown lakewood to the Flats or Van Aiken District etc.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Cleveland had 15 homicides last week. That’s ridiculous. Compared to 15 total homicides in, for example, the entire month of Sept 2019. 168 total to date and counting...
