Did We Land On The Moon? ..And General Conspiracies / Urban Legends
In a sense, you are correct about Bush not backing it financially. He maintained a nearly static budget for NASA these past 8 years, while redirecting them to focus on Constellation. The net effect of this was what I personally believe was his real goal -- large scale hard science and aviation research at NASA have essentially been killed off. Almost all resources have been poured into Constellation. The new crew vehicle has already begun high fidelity verification & validation testing. And unless Obama does something dramatic, yes, we are on track to have boots on the moon ~2020. We are currently planning for "lunar sorties" which are short duration stays similar to Apollo missions as well as "lunar outpost" which will include a permanent, ISS-style presence on the surface. Mars is a different question. There are a lot of people highly skeptical we'll be able to meet the human safety requirements wrt radiation and micro meteoroid protection, much less be able to deal with the 20 minute communication delay to Earth safely.

Did We Land On The Moon? ..And General Conspiracies / Urban Legends
I haven't taken the time to read the thread, but I'm hoping it's tongue in cheek, right? Please? Jesus I sure hope so. On the off chance it's not...I work with NASA, particularly the Constellation Program which has been tasked to return to the Moon and then on to Mars. After innumerable discussions with astronauts and Apollo-era engineers I can assure you the Apollo missions were completely on the up-and-up. You might like to look around the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal to look at the extensive photographic, motion imagery and audio data captured during the missions.

Cleveland: Where to get a good men's haircut?
Tried this guy the other day and was happy with the cut. I think it's the Colonial Marketplace Arcade, though.

I thought it would only be fair to link to RTA's response on WOIO last night. This one has a bit more of that special Carl Monday feel to it -- LINK

I really know nothing about this stuff, but I wonder if it's possible it was just an honest mistake. Probably not, but worth considering before vilifying anyone.

I think they said McTech only poured between Public Square and Playhouse Square. It still remains to be seen what impact this will have. For example does one bag really have that much of an impact? I assume McTech will be held liable for any significant re-work (if any is needed). There's a follow up tonight with an official response from RTA.

^ I'm reticent to give him ratings, even via the intertubes, but you can watch it here: http://www.woio.com/Global/category.asp?C=4397&nav=menu68_1 It's listed under the featured videos. I would direct link to if I could but the geniuses use an obfuscated link through a javascript pop-up in order to force you to watch a commercial. Didn't work under Firefox for me, either. *edit: after watching it, I didn't think it was his usual over the top style and seemed like a decent report. It also appears he caught McTech red handed adding the calcium chloride. Sigh.

One would think it would be mandated in the contract that an independent, conflict of interest free third party would be responsible for verification & validation. Hopefully it amounts to nothing and everything is on the up and up.

Those are good points. Notebooks are one of the few consumer products that I think are worthy of an extended warranty.

If he has a mac now chances are he'll want to stick with mac. Don't get the MacBook Air. Any of the MacBook Pro's should be fine, only depending on how much you want to spend.

I didn't read jpop's post as condescending or unecessary. I think the comments were fair, honest and completely relevant. The biggest complaint I've heard from (non-UO) people is exasperation that several aspects of the system are not complete despite several years to plan the rollout (e.g. signal prioritization and ticket purchases). Rather than becoming defensive about it I think it would serve RTA well to provide more information than "we're working on it". Also, I saw everyone's favorite reporter Carl Monday filming something at the corner of everyone's favorite traffic intersection (E6th & Euclid).

ELECTION 2008 - Yes we can, no make that.....YES WE DID!
^I heard a lot of howling and obama chanting over by e12th. CSU kids seemed to be heading towards public square (maybe just e4th). I thought about going to see if anything was happening. But then I just went to bed.

They certainly are. Imagine my surprise this afternoon when I heard an ungodly noise coming from my living room and found some strange man on a crane drilling holes in my exterior wall mere inches from my window. It was slightly surreal.

^^ Thank you, Jerry. I had hoped that was the case and appreciate your confirming it.

Can anyone explain why the traffic signal pattern at E6th & Euclid is so complicated for such a small 3-way intersection? I can't really discern a pattern and it's fairly frustrating. I don't think I'm the only one to experience this -- jay walking seems to be rampant here and I've already seen 3 or 4 separate instances of people simply walking straight out into on coming traffic.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ Is this deliberate troll bait? Not that you aren't entitled to your opinion but... I think it's pretty clear from the article that traffic enforcement is just one dimension of the CPD's strategy. Not to mention the dude is 60 and he's still doing a LOT more than just writing traffic tickets. Of course there are areas CPD is lacking and could be improved, I'm just not getting why you think such vitriol is needed in response to this article.

My suspicion is this has something to do with the folks picketing them for using non-union workers. I wouldn't get to worked up about it. I'm not particularly excited for it, but this certainly wouldn't give me pause to enter. I think the same could be said for any dining establishment basically.

Perhaps not the best choice of words considering the situation  They have nobody to blame but themselves for neglecting to properly maintain the facilities.

The 9/4/08 article pretty clearly explains that they threatened to shut them down after the operators of the mall clearly disregarded the controls put in place by the EPA.

Yeah I can agree with that, it's definitely odd. I bet they'll be in the market soon though.

"has no plans to enter" can be construed various ways. It might be true they just don't have any plans in motion at the time but that might just be because they've been caught with their pants down in terms of innovating new lines. They may be #2 but my understanding is Hallmark is a magnitude larger than AG so it may also be the case of just not enough resources for a niche market. I would prefer to think it's one of these explanations rather than any sort of bigotry on AG's behalf, and will do so until proven otherwise.
