  1. They've really been out in force lately. Did they pick up more people or have they just been trying different patrol schemes I wonder. Either way, it's good to see them.

Quitting coffee was harder for me than quitting smoking after 10+ years.. What, no pictures of the dead guy?

Great; this is one of those things I never would've noticed but now that it's been pointed out it'll be all I can see from now on.. Seriously though, while I'm a fan of good design I can't say I'm terribly offended / surprised.. *shrug*

They've been working the past few Saturdays outside my apartment around E12th (somewhat to my chagrin, those buzz saws are loud at 8am).

I'm sure there are probably good reasons, but why the patchwork of various segments being completed at different times? E.g., what's with the random segment between e61 and e86 not getting done until November, while everything around it is already complete. I think if they had proceeded in a more linear fashion it would help alleviate some of the perceived delays. I know for me personally it was miserable having a dirt pit outside my window for a month or two before they started pouring concrete. Meanwhile they were working like gangbusters a block away.
  7. ^^ I guess you fall into the "browser" category. I loathe shopping.
  8. aka, juris-my-diction. So how are they going to enforce this anyway? I was under the impression there weren't any patrols assigned to downtown during the week, is that incorrect?
  9. Link to Article Ameritrust cleanup contract goes to a higher bidder Commissioners say chosen firm more experienced Saturday, August 04, 2007 Joan Mazzolini Cuyahoga County commissioners have awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to clean out and demolish the interior of the old Ameritrust Tower to a company that bid $915,000 more than the lowest bidder. Commissioners Jimmy Dimora and Tim Hagan said they voted to approve the contract Thursday based on the advice of their experts, who reported that they think the lowest bidder does not have enough experience in removing asbestos from a large steel structure. Under state law, commissioners are not required to choose the lowest bid if a higher bid is the best...

The city where I grew up (Bay Village) used fiberglass poles I think. I'm assuming these are sturdier though, since a couple friends and I were screwing around swinging a light pole back and forth until SNAP. Clean through. Our only option was to run. I sure hope the statute of limitations is up.
  11. There are "biological fuel cells", which incorporate microorganisms and biochemistry. I have no idea if this is the type being discussed above, though.
  12. ^I was going to say the same thing. I like how they force people to slow down, lest their vehicle fly apart from all the vibration.
  13. Well the letter has made The Smoking Gun and BoingBoing. Hilarious.
  14. Well there's something to be said about a engaged & vigilant councilperson.. However, he sure sounds like a looney tune from that letter. Nothing that would keep me from voting for him though.
  15. Again, I think this is a case where ECP is getting a bad rap. The place was on the skids well before it started along this stretch.
  16. Wouldn't a better response be to assign a couple auxiliary police officers to monitor Public Square 24x7? It couldn't be that outrageously expensive to do so. I agree with 8Shades, enforcement of this is going to be problematic at best. While I'm generally very sympathetic to the homeless, I have to agree though that Public Square is not the place for the mobile soup kitchens. I've walked through it a couple times and it is utter chaos. There's got to be a better place for it, if for no other reason than logistics.
  17. I believe the fire and other construction woes were under the previous landlord. I'm assuming that along with an increased rent the new landlord(s) would agree to update things considerably. Otherwise, yes, it would be insanity to expect higher rent.

Wow, never thought I'd see Bang Bus referenced on UO. Bravo!

Something's definitely off with him.. Where the hell are his parents?
  20. Several of his children/grandchildren? I'm not sure which or possible both have been involved in various little skirmishes. I'll just catch a little article now and then about it, I'm surprised it never gotten more attention.
  21. ^ Well I don't think it's a question of "waiting it out" -- I think they're basically teetering on the edge of bankruptcy (if they haven't crossed that line already). I remember an article earlier this year that said the heat might be turned off for the entire building due to lack of payment.
  22. This is one case where I think ECP is getting a bad rap.. While I'm sure it's not helping, the CAC was having serious issues before it started along this section. Most of it is rumor and hearsay, so I won't go into details, but it sounded like some seriously inept people were at the helm.
  23. Good lord. There was a heavy police presence downtown last night, I hope at least they caught the shooter(s) at Spy.

Wow.. The music made my ears bleed, but the video makes Cleveland look better that Disney Land for kids. Great find.

huh, I couldn't disagree more about the commanding a-hole thing.. At least for the women I'm interested in anyway. Now there's something to be said for not being a push-over dweeb like our buddy Louis there.
