That's pretty jacked up about the Cafe Ah-Roma owner getting jailed. I have to admit, it appears that a few more brain cycles could've been spent on a better overall plan for pedestrian traffic flow up and down Euclid.
  2. Talk about sour grapes! It's not Cleveland's fault you (apparently) didn't perform even a cursory risk mitigation study at the start of the project that would've identified potential roadblocks like this before blowing out millions of dollars, Jimmy. Of course it's always easier to blame others for your own incompetence. Besides, didn't the latest plans ditch the original centralization plan? So we're only talking like 1500 people or so, right? pfft.
  3. I was just kidding about the revolutionary part -- it's nothing terribly special, it's just nice to have another restaurant in the area open late during the week.
  4. http://www.pluggedincleveland.com/restaurants/990+jujis+at+the+statler.html It's pretty tasty, actually.
  5. Despite the obligatory deprecating first sentence, good article. PD had a large front page article Sunday I think about CWRU's new found devotion to tech transfer as well.
  6. I know this is so revolutionary it should probably have it's own thread, but Juji's in the lobby of the Statler Arms is now open until 8pm Monday - Thursday.
  7. I don't even really enjoy strip clubs. What bothers me so much about this whole thing is that the bigoted, under-educated, overreaching, and dogmatic CCV clearly STILL has a tremendous amount of legislative influence. I mean why is this Miller guy sitting in with representatives, and making concessions on what changes he'll accept to the proposed bill? They make me sick, and if I ever leave Ohio, honestly, it will be because of groups like this. I guess I'm grumpy this morning.. Link to Article
  8. ^Great information, thank you! Although I've only had limited personal interaction with them, my impression of the BioEnterprise folks is that they're top notch. It does not surprise me that their figures are more robustly investigated and accurate compared to Dow Jones / PWC. If nothing else, I suppose you could say they have a vested interest in find every nickel someone invested in this sector. (I think that's a good thing!)
  9. Wow, that's a genuinely nice response. From a web form, no less.. That's usually a black hole for customer complaints.

^ That would make sense about the drop off.. But I have to agree with the other folks -- IMO, there's just something about this roundabout that's harder than others to navigate. It's like there's too much information to process too quickly or something. I wonder if perhaps the radius of the circle is too small? A larger radius would provide more space between the various entry points, as well as allow them to space the _many_ signs a little better.
  11. I'm sorry, this is off topic, but... Holy crap, that might be the cheesiest web banner I've ever seen. That's akin to putting your picture on business cards. I love it.

*cough* *cough* <puts on his engineer hat> Well, GOOD engineers are supposed to. Whenever designing anything that interfaces with humans in any way, it's standard dictum to take into consideration humans are highly error prone, easily confused, and generally lazy. So the KISS rule applies doubly. In Canada I believe professional engineers are given rings made out of a bridge that catastrophically failed resulting in many (hundreds?) dead. This is intended to remind them of their commitment to safety and good design. Maybe ODOT engineers should be forced to carry around a chunk of asphalt or something in their back pocket

^ Great, thank you for the info! I'll have to check it out again, the last time I was there was maybe 4 or 5 months ago.
  17. I know of basic dexterity tests that are administered to some factory workers before operating heavy machinery.. It's basically a simple video game designed to engage the visual motor system and will detect less than optimal performance regardless of cause (sleep, drugs, alcohol, whatever). I'd hope they're employing something similar at Hopkins! If not sounds like they need to start.

I can't speak to Reserve Square, but I live right up the block in the Statler Arms and safety has never been an issue. I can't remember the name of the building, but a block or two east gets a bit rough but it's pretty easy to avoid. murray hill, do you have any more info on the grocery store renovation? I keep hearing rumors but nothing detailed. I think it's kind of dumpy now, I'm REALLY hoping it's a decent upgrade.
  19. I thought it was great -- the lyrics to the song playing in the background while they were in "The Cleve" were hilarious!
  20. This is the same building jamiec and I wrote letters to the current owner regarding its abysmal appearance quite a while ago (specifically the nasty Loretta's). I don't know about him but I never received a response; I don't think the owners, who are right next door, are too motivated to do anything with this building for the time being.
  21. only if you get caught
  22. I wasn't sure where else to put this, but thought it was worth mentioning somewhere -- Link Right below it is another blurb for the "I love Downtown!" event. I've also seen this even getting plugged on the billboard TV attached to the Hannah building in the theater district. They're really pushing it!
  23. I like the show 30 Rock, but they've already made one dig on Cleveland.. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was a harsh one because I remember groaning when I heard it.
