  1. I've wondered if data centers would cluster around the great lakes to utilize the lake water for cooling which I think is a big expense for them (although I'm honestly talking out of my butt). Doesn't Toronto do something like that?
  2. 5 min walk, that's incredible I'm jelly. imo it's hard to overstate how much having a grocery/decent bodega within walking distance improves one's quality of life. really wish the corner stores were better quality in Cleveland it'd make such a difference.
  3. I've walked/run the tow path that passes by this development at least a few hundred times and have never had an issue. Granted I don't walk it at night because there has been some shenanigans (mostly kids being dumb kids) but I agree with enginerd - this will certainly improve as it becomes more populated. The biggest threat to my safety has been cars when needing to cross Carter Rd.
  4. oh for sure. I am grateful I somehow avoided getting broken into last year when 40 cars were hit in one night on w7. unfortunately it's the occasional jackpots like this that reinforce them. I wonder if people are leaving stuff in their cars more in Cleveland relative to other cities. no real way to know I suppose. a PSA campaign to educate/remind people might be helpful.
  5. "lost more than $1,000 when thieves smashed a window and stole items from her car." so she had a bunch of stuff sitting in her car. It sucks she got her stuff stolen, but this is "things not to do in any city in the world 101" stuff.
  6. Boxing them in sounds easier said than done to me. If it helps, I keep reading articles in the SF Chronicle talking about how the Bay Area is struggling with these idiots as well. Guess we shouldn't design roads where it's so easy to do.
  7. Disagree. Conflicts of interest exist and is why disclosures exist in journal articles.
  8. Really hope they go with the alternative that has an actual bike lane physically separated from the road. city website HERE has a link to the presentation with alternatives
  9. I agree not the most inspired design. happy something is happening with that corner, though.
  10. Sorry I'm not following. What is the issue with the Market Street closure?
  11. It absolutely is due to conflict of interest. The fact that they only requested $100,000 bond already signals impropriety and favoritism from the prosecutors office. It even surprised the judge so she doubled it.
  12. I am happy there are consequences to his actions. The alternative is that there is no reaction and his businesses thrive. I personally would find that extremely disheartening. The most obvious solution would be that he divests himself from the businesses. That only happens if he's forced to by the public refusing to support him. More likely this is just a brief consequence to a bad news cycle.
  13. I have to admit, the first time I encountered a hawk as a driver I was confused and wasn't exactly sure how to proceed. I think it's asking a lot to introduce a novel signaling device and expect people to just figure it out. I mean the majority of people just blew through dark intersections during the recent power outage.
  14. Whatever the story ends up being, this is frankly embarrassing and suggests the leadership needs a dramatic overhaul imo. not holding my breath. https://signalcleveland.org/metrohealth-system-fires-ceo-airica-steed/
  15. Totally get it. We're probably doing the same soon to be honest. I appreciate the police, I just wish there were more of them. They seem totally overwhelmed. It's so wild to me that squatters are apparently universally nearly impossible to deal with. Isn't this something the Sheriff Dept typically deals with though?
  16. It would be very easy to improve it, we simply need to adopt sane gun legislation. The erosion of these protections is obviously the cause.
  17. There was a really good This Old House episode that dealt with this issue for a home they were building near a hill side. It was really involved process from analysis to execution. I'll try to find the season, it was really interesting.
  18. I was so confused by this because I read a recent Crain's article from July 1 that listed additional Rite Aid closings. The Franklin Rite Aid wasn't among them, so I thought I was safe https://www.crainscleveland.com/retail/rite-aid-closing-more-ohio-locations-during-bankruptcy But then I found an earlier article (https://www.crainscleveland.com/retail/rite-aid-likely-close-hundreds-pharmacies-ohio-and-michigan) that said: It's really confusing (and imo unethical and potentially dangerous) that they aren't being more transparent about this with their customers so we can be proactive about transitioning to a pharmacy of our choice. I'm a physician and so many people have trouble managing prescriptions on a good day, much less with something like this injected into it. Supposedly they're going to send letters out, but I haven't received anything. That second article noted: It would be great if this would open space for more independently owned mom/pop pharmacies, but I'm not holding my breath.
  19. it's crazy to me that it's 2024 and PIT maneuvers are still the way we immobilize cars
  20. it matters imo because there are strong racial undertones to some of the comments and accuracy matters.
  21. is this going to be the new "is that the buildings final color?"
  22. Still going.. https://signalcleveland.org/cyber-threat-closes-cleveland-city-hall-for-second-day-city-tight-lipped/
  23. Not enough coffee shops imo, hard to find a seat some days
  24. Yeah, I will not ever purchase a home without an inspection contingency. If it means I'm a renter for life, oh well lol
