Cleveland: Housing Market
does your brother do it professionally? this is one of my biggest anxieties about it all (finding a good reliable inspector)

Cleveland: Housing Market
we've been looking, first time buyers, and I have to say I'm really put off by the number of half-a$$ed flips we've come across. I wish there was a way to filter them out of search results.

that's funny, my wife and I would have never found them without being able to easily walk the towpath to them from our place in tremont.

Cleveland: NASA Glenn Research Center News & Info
I worked on something similar in early 2000s at Glenn, although smaller scale experiment. It was called the Combustion Module 2 and flew onboard (sadly) the last Columbia mission.

I have nothing to back this up, but I just assumed she got tired of the constant pressures associated with running a full restaurant and wanted to slow down. I can't even begin to imagine all the headaches a bustling restaurant produces on a daily basis. Pure speculation. I miss Flying Fig as well.

is 25/sf really the going rate around there? seems steep

Cleveland: Westown-Jefferson: Development and News
Confirmed today that it's the old CVS on w.130 & Lorain they're moving into. It's going to be an expanded clinic, I believe with dental services, and a drive through pharmacy. CEO said proposals went out a couple weeks ago and they're hoping to be in by November of this year.

I'm sympathetic to the asphalt plant actually. That would really suck to have your business (or workplace) blown up out of nowhere like that. Not crazy about the smells it puts out but it's sort of ingrained in me at this point and hardly notice it except on particularly pungent days lol

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I apologize if this isn't an appropriate place to ask, but do people park overnight at the Brookpark rapid lot for multiple nights? It would be ideal to park there and hop on the RTA into the airport.

Not sure if this is the right place, but Neighborhood Family Practice (a community health center) will be moving their W.117th & Lorain clinic to W.130th. I believe they'll be taking over the closed CVS but I'm not certain. I just know they said there's a drive through for the pharmacy they'll have, so assuming it's there.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I'm flying Frontier for the first time on Wednesday. boy people weren't kidding about the extra fees adding up! I actually measured my personal bag to make sure it fits the dimensions after hearing they compensate the gate agents for every over-sized bag they catch lol. very happy with their expansions regardless.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
Seems like a perfect location (I live about a block away). The 25 bus stop is literally at the front door. I haven't worked with them directly, but I've heard very good things about Stella Maris. The article says the block club was very supportive so hopefully there isn't too much pushback.

thank you! I respectfully disagree. That's drawing conclusions for a given day of the week based on a single sample. It's a big assumption to say they are reasonable representations and is why a larger sample size is needed to confirm. Don't get me wrong I 100% support this project, but if they are going to use statistics to support their case, imo they should be much more robust. This feels disingenuous to me.

are the details/methodology of that parking study available anywhere? as much as i loathe to agree with the nimbys, if it was in fact conducted over just one weekend as one twitter commenter said then its validity is questionable and should be redone imo.

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
I walk/run this section of the towpath multiple times a week and agree it's a neat stretch with some fantastic views. My only complaint is where the towpath crosses Carter there. It really needs some additional safety features. The sharp curve makes it difficult to see oncoming traffic and vice versa. Plus cars fly down that stretch. I've needed to stop short a handful of times because somebody was blowing by and didn't see me. Blinking lights notifying traffic of the cross walk and some speed bumps would be great. At a minimum I wish they'd keep the foliage under better control to improve visibaility a bit. It feels like it's only a matter of time before somebody is hit.

Cleveland: Natural History Museum Renovation and Expansion
we went to one of the planetarium shows last month, I thought it was really cool. and agree even though there wasn't a ton to see, enjoyed walking around the limited space that's open.

is it really that onerous to maintain public access? does it drastically impact developers visions? seems to me it would be a bonus, having more access/visibility as a draw so I'm (probably naively) having a hard time understanding why they fight it so hard.

Lakewood: Development and News
That's interesting the population has actually declined. I was away for about 5 years and after moving back, Lakewood feels much "busier" to me in terms of traffic/congestion so I had assumed it grew.

had the same thought. that picture in KJP's article really emphasizes the lost opportunities with i-90 right up against the lake like that.

Whatcha Reading?
I've tried several times to read Infinite Jest and given up in the end. it's frustrating because there are glimpses of incredible sections with shimmering detail and mind blowingly wonderful prose. however they're fairly brief and deeply embedded in what feels like nearly endless and at times inscrutable writing that I found too unpleasant to work through. just my opinion.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
especially perplexing with the Driftwood project right next door coming along. I really loved the second level of Loop, found it a lot easier to get actual work done there than other bustling coffee shops. I wonder how the new coffee shop on Literary (Nirvana) is going to do. I smelled them roasting beans yesterday, seems about ready to open.

Cuyahoga River
great article, thanks for sharing. sounds like hard work they're doing and it's greatly appreciated. I've been walking to towpath a lot and it's really fun seeing activity on the river. I have to be honest, I'm surprised there aren't restrictions on fish consumption. I always cringe a bit when I see people fishing the river not far past the (walworth run?) sewer outflow.
