  1. They caught the POS, waiting on DNA tests to confirm if he was the involved in the Lakewood incident as well. Apparently the Edgewater HOA wasn't contacted soon enough by CPD and the high resolution camera footage they installed had been overwritten by the time they learned of the incident via the media. That seems like a pretty major screw up by CPD.
  2. More details including sketch. Also there was a similar event in Lakewood that they suspect is the same person. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/09/cleveland_police_relase_more_d.html#incart_river
  3. I looked at several units about a month ago and he promised they would be ready by August 1. I didn't know how they'd make it because there was so much work to be done still. I'll never cease to be amazed how fast these guys can work. The windows in this building are incredible.
  4. I wanted to post this in the suburban thread but was unable to for some reason. I received this flyer yesterday. I'm only posting it here because it's time sensitive and wanted to give people a heads up in case someone felt like attending. Unfortunately I'm unable to make it next week.
  5. I've been driving down e105 a lot lately and noticed one of the buildings has "E Roc" spray painted on the side. Hmmmmmmm
  6. I personally see the policy doing more harm than good for the reasons MTS points out. This will only serve to deepen divides and suspicion.
  7. One of CWRU SOM's main selling points is its affiliations with CCF, UH, VA medical center (3rd largest in the nation) and MetroHealth. It will work very hard to maintain them all. Also just a minor disagreement with mwd above, I wouldn't consider the CWRU program to be traditional really. Lectures are completely optional (pretty rare) and the curriculum is really based on small group self-directed learning, very similar to the CCLCM in that regard. True they have a full year devoted solely to research, whereas CWRU only has a 4 month research block. It's still a research heavy institution. Also worth mentioning the CCLCM is free tuition.
  8. I don't think I would describe anything I've eaten in a Sawyer restaurant as subtle. People don't pay a lot of money for food like this because it's bland or doesn't have flavor. That being said, the flavors, combinations and presentation are all new for a Cleveland diner, and the portions are smaller in a multi-course meal, which is also not traditional Cleveland. I imagine he will have more fans from out of state for this restaurant than people in Cleveland who love it, once it is established. But I think it's designed to be that type of place, not some rustic cleveland type place, of which we have plenty. Just to be clear, I wasn't referring to his other restaurants (I said in a previous post I'm a big fan of his). Nor did I use the word "bland". There are people with more sensitive palates than me. It doesn't mean it's bland food, I just don't appreciate it to the same level and that's perfectly fine.
  9. Do the early backers get a deep discount or fee tickets? I'm intrigued by the ticket system, although I'm a little nervous about the food? I'm a fan if big flavors and these sorts of places are more subtle/nuanced than my caveman palate generally appreciates.
  10. I'm a big Sawyer fan, don't get me wrong, but does he have the name recognition for that? A legitimate question, I honestly don't know.
  11. It's also a mystery to me why more people don't do the rapid to UC. I was really excited to do that from the West side but had to move for other reasons and figured I'd head to the East side while I was at it.
  12. Cedar to E105 to Quincy to e55 is actually a pretty pleasant drive, very few lights and nice smooth roads. I do wish the Carnegie lights were timed better, I've made that drive for years and there are a lot of (seemingly unnecessary) stops. It would make a big difference. East Shoreway to MLK is great too but in the morning it can be rough getting onto MLK (exits often backup and spill onto 90) and they've really done a poor job until recently with the traffic management at the traffic circle near the VA. Plus in the evening, if you want 90W it's nice to avoid the jammed up innerbelt (hence why I do Quincy to e55). There really are several existing options, I feel like making some tweeks could go a long way. Not sure an entire new roadway is necessary but I'm not a traffic engineer.
  13. I really wish there was a way to get accurate crime statistics for all cities. My understanding is that suburbs tend to go out of their way to mask/obscure the numbers? Isn't this sort of information covered by the sunshine laws? I don't know how we have constructive conversations about the various policies and whatnot without accurate, objective metrics to compare/contrast.
  14. Sorry if this was discussed earlier, but how do you know the beat reporter is upset with the Chief? Is that just speculation from the high number of CH crime reports lately?

Traffic was backed up even more this past Thursday. Almost all the way to the Lake shoreway entrance.
  16. Thanks. I'm not terribly worried, just taking it as a lesson as this crap can happen anywhere. Damn guns. Apparently the occupants at the house it happened at are were packed and planning to move in a week anyway (unrelated to the incident). Guessing some kids let a goodbye house party get out of control.
  17. I'm moving to this block in a couple days. It looks like such a well-kept and peaceful (i.e. boring) suburb.
  18. They aren't doing their cause any favors with that letter. If anything the borderline hysterical tone undermines it.
  19. Does anyone here live in one of the uptown apartments? I'm taking a look at one on Monday. Curious what the acoustic isolation is like. I was told the earliest date for moving into the new building (which is all one bedrooms I think?) would be July 9.
  20. Has there been any updated information regarding the timing for the "mainline reconstruction" portion of this project?
  21. ^it's tempting to think that but it's a bit more nuanced than that. Basically every surveillance tool also provides an opportunity for abuse, and occasionally egregious examples come to light. That's not to say we shouldn't use these tools, but they shouldn't be considered harmless.
  22. I don't know the details but apparently there were shot(s) fired at Wade Park & E118. There was no threat to campus, I guess it was just close enough they wanted to be sure. Originally they thought it was in the North Residential Village nearby. EDIT: Apparently it was a group of juveniles. One of them pulled out a gun and shot it in the air to intimidate another group walking by, then as he was sticking it back into his waist, he accidentally shot one of his buddies in the thigh.
  23. About 10 minutes ago I got an automated phone call from CWRU security about a vague security situation on campus and to be alert. Just a few minutes ago I received an email that says shots have been fired and to barricade yourself in a secure location. At the very end of the message it says "TEST This is an exercise". I sure hope this is a screw up and not an actual situation.
  24. ^Yes. It was a fairly substantial amount of rubble. As it was happening my first thought was "huh that's weird they'd be demolishing a building with people driving by" lol
  25. Boy this corner of Lakewood has been having a rough couple weeks. As I was driving west on Detroit about 20 minutes ago, just as I was passing the 5 o'clock tavern the top wall of the building directly to the south collapsed onto the sidewalk and street. I'm not sure what it's called, but it was the "decorative" wall on top of the roof (not actual living space). I stopped as there was one guy riding his bike that was hit and laying down. A few more bricks dropped and he jumped up and ran away so he seemed relatively okay.
