  1. Not every building needs retail!!! It's nice but it can't become a requirement, the city can only support so many businesses and we have restaurants closing weekly.
  2. This is Columbus! That's our entire vibe! Dress up to go to Applebees or wear sweatpants to the fancy place!
  3. I love the not so subtle "do not complain about parking you silly review board!" information they provided. I'm sure we are also going to hear the "it's going to be so loud in there if it's made of wood" and those complaints can also go suck an egg. These are college students, the walls could be 8ft thick concrete and it'll still be loud in there.
  4. Upscale casual kinda crushes it here in Columbus. You can feel kinda fancy but wear your sweatpants there.
  5. There are so many inappropriate jokes I want to make right now but I must refrain!
  6. I mean, we all get excited about construction and development projects here but let's keep it PG!
  7. 2025 always seemed like an insanely aggressive timeline. Kinda like having a 45 minute layover in an airport. It can be done but absolutely everything needs to go perfect for it to happen in that short window.
  8. Doubt and worry drives the clicks though! We will still be seeing articles like "will this ever get finished?" and "was this good for Ohio?" etc. etc. for at least a few more years. And then if they do keep building we will get, "if Intel can't build 768 fabs here then it's a failure". The media will never be pleased because "construction project is on time and doing great" doesn't generate as much engagement.
  9. Well when you live in Columbus, you don't get much opportunity to practice taking photos in the sunlight!
  10. No such thing as a dumb question if it helps you learn something or understand something my man!
  11. Have you ever talked to someone who has lived outdoors against their own wishes? They will not care about any of that man, a dry bed with a roof and a door you can lock is everything. They want to feel safe, they aren't focusing on being part of a community or worrying about how far they need to walk to get eggs. They are looking for a little stability and this could be the place they find it.
  12. I hear everything you are saying but I'm just happy people are getting homes. Would nicer be better? Of course. But let's not vilify the development when it's going to be providing a massively necessary service to the community.
  13. We are investing in the community.... by giving them affordable places to live. Believe me, the guy who has been living out of his car for over a year does not care what the exterior of the building he gets to live in looks like. If you have to look at a building you perceive to be ugly when you drive by once every few years, so be it.
  14. It's all about how what you say is perceived, intention is meaningless if the public perception is different than whatever your intention was. And you're entirely missing my point that the design is meaningless and it's all about functionality. That's priority #1. If a more generic design allows these places to be more affordable, I say let's build even more.
  15. Yes yes, let's tuck the poors into the alleys. They don't deserve to live on street corners! Come on now...
  16. The people who need the housing live in the city. They should build it where the people who need it live. How are they going to get to work when there isn't a reliable bus route from Reynoldsburg to where they work downtown? It's really that simple, plus let's not pretend like we all spend so much time on this street corner or anything. This will have 0 impact on you and will be a massive benefit to dozens of people. The people who work at the colleges in facilities, maintenance, custodial etc. all need places to live to.
  17. Buildings can be 4 stories in cities, there isn't a rule against it. I'm just happy my neighbors is Columbus who might be struggling are going to have more options for affordable housing. Huge portions of the actual city limits are basically suburbs so I have no issue with some not as tall buildings even in the more urban parts of the city. We have the space, it's fine.
  18. I just can't get behind any of this, sorry. "it's prime real estate, there's no ground floor retail". People need homes and we don't have enough! This city is massive, it's just one lot let the people have more affordable housing options. This place is going to give someone an opportunity to go to college, this place will give someone an opportunity to turn their life around. I don't care how it looks or where it is, get the people homes!
  19. Come on now... someone finally tries to build actual affordable rental units in an urban part of the city and we call it "garbage". Low income affordable rental developments are always going to look like a Hampton Inn.
  20. It doesn't help that the ones they are identifying as the most vacant are also in massive active construction zones. That's a huge deterrent to a lot of people. I had a friend who lived on Town Street in Franklinton and he left because all of the construction was just super annoying to deal with everyday. Street closures, loud nosies, tons of dust etc.
  21. It has to be somewhere downtown if they want to maximize traffic to the place. It's very much a destination spot right now, they aren't getting the "what's that? lets go check it out!" crowd at all because nobody is just casually driving around where it's currently located unless they live around there.
  22. Don't forget The Arnold was in town, that's thousands of extra people out in the area compared to a normal weekend. We are certainly coming up though!
  23. Soon enough we can stop calling the region "Central Ohio" and start calling it "Amazon Ohio" identifiable by all the Amazon warehouses, fulfillment centers and server farm buildings.
  24. It's going to be a tough adjustment. It's just so easy to live that white picket fence suburban happy safe family life 20 minutes outside of downtown that there isn't much of an incentive currently. Especially, as others have mentioned, your kids would be going to some subpar public schools. Other cities the incentive is "living downtown you don't need to commute an hour+ to get to work" but that's really not a problem around here.
  25. Looks like it should be full of Super Mutants from the Fallout video game series. There is probably some kind of automaton with saw blades for arms lurking just inside the front door guarding the lobby.
