  1. I'm not sure if anyone on here follows CityNerd on YouTube. He recently just posted a video about the downtowns in the US with the most surface parking. We were not one of the worst offenders but we were mentioned and it was something like 24% of downtown in surface parking.
  2. I don't think we want them! I'm choosing to shop local every chance I get, I want to give my money to my neighbors not a giant corporation when I can.
  3. I honestly don't see any need to protect views one can only see from behind the wheel of their car while driving.
  4. Sadly it's the biggest new development news in Clintonville in months haha.
  5. You can probably advertise that as a feature. "Just steps away from church".
  6. Backups on High Street, or anywhere, are not good. It creates situations where unpredictable things can happen and we want things to be as predictable as possible when we are on the road. Someone abruptly stops short because they noticed a spot, that could easily be an accident. We do not want to be relying on variable and unpredictable situations for traffic calming, we can install actual traffic calming measures.
  7. Yeah they interviewed the shop that is arguably the least convenient place to grab a quick bite to eat from. The market thrives on people who spend under an hour there, I'm not going there to eat a full Italian dinner. If I do want a full Italian dinner, I'm much more likely to go to a full service sit down place. I'm usually stopping in for something quick and not messy. I just want some momo's!
  8. They'll knock $50/month off your rent for the "permanent darkness" units.
  9. The comments about parking in that thread are just laughable. Like we get it, you go downtown two times a year or so and when you were last here in 2022 there was a parking lot there. I go fairly frequently and it's always busy though, especially during peak hours.
  10. Happens way too frequently where someone goes to park in a spot but everyone behind them just starts going around them so they sit there scared to actually start parking which just causes more backups.
  11. They actually made improvements to the Disc Golf course late 2023 as well. Added in an insane amount of drains in spots where water would collect for literally months at a time sometimes making parts of the course impassable and unplayable. Went out there in the rain a week ago and it was the best wet conditions I've ever encountered. They did an amazing job. This course is still my secret "never busy" course so don't tell anyone and make sure they hear about how bad the rough is!
  12. It still says in the article that they should be operational in 2025 but Phase 1 should be completed entirely by 2027. There is apparently a Phase 1a and a 1b and getting the thing up and running in part of 1a intended to be completed in 2025 with 1b completed by 2027 which would wrap up Phase 1.
  13. I just like to say this any chance I get. REMOVE ALL STREET PARKING FROM HIGH STREET IN THE SHORT NORTH. Thank you, that is all.
  14. This needs to happen with the ground floor commercial. The nut jobs of this neighborhood I've chosen to live in need to realize dense developments along High are good for everyone who lives here. Plus selfishly this is basically at the end of my street and more stuff to walk to is great.
  15. It's pretty crazy how just putting the building closer to the road makes it already feel more dense than before.
  16. Dang, since shovels hit ground this thing has been moving at a lightining fast pace!
  17. What about property taxes? Gotta imagine those are higher in Granville.
  18. Yeah it's such a tricky situation. The entire reason that area is desirable for new expensive builds is because it's Newark City taxes and Granville school district. Literally best of both worlds in that sense.
  19. If you can't see the parking from the road, does it event exist?
  20. The school issue is such a silly argument honestly. The population of just about everywhere in the US has been growing since the beginning. These districts should be actively planning for growth and development not fighting against it. And I've been into Granville schools before. They got a ton of space and a ton of money, they can do whatever they need to do they just don't want to do it. Spend millions on a new football stadium but can't figure out how to fit like 80 new kids in the entire district. They have professionally trained chefs in the kitchen making 6 figures. They literally throw iPads in the trash at the end of every school year while just next door in Newark teachers are more worried about making sure their students have coats and socks in the winter. Like, get it together! Spend the money on education not frivolous crap!
  21. Lots of parking right in front of every place you want to go and beautiful tangled messes of overhead power lines stretching as far as the eye can see in every direction.
  22. "This ain't Europe!" Literal argument I've heard in Central Ohio about why things should not change for the better. It was specific to them making downtown Newark actually nice and removing the stop lights, but I'm sure others in the metro would express the same sentiment.
  23. It's where all the EV people are going to eat while they wait 45 minutes to get 60% charge. I rented an EV back in October and while the car was great, the whole needing to get it charged thing was a monumentally massive inconvenience and huge time sink. They'd be a great daily driver when you can plug it in at home at night, but outside of that we are still so far away from EVs being viable for the majority of car owners.
  24. There's a joke here somewhere.... I'll come back if I find it.
  25. Hey, I'm pretty sure I saw those people in my nightmares!
