  1. I know we've discussed it here before, but that eSports gaming arena is a sure thing now it seems. Will be the second one of theirs in the country after their Los Angeles facility of an intended 32 facilities total. Expected groundbreaking later in 2023 with an estimated completion go 2024-2025. No specific location announced yet. Not much other information about it, but it's cool it's official. All I have to say is.... please don't put it in Polaris. Maybe put this gaming arena in that district named for arenas? https://614now.com/2023/explore-columbus/100000-square-foot-esports-arena-coming-to-columbus
  2. Buckeye Lake was a very special situation. The zoning guy for the village literally didn't do his job for decades and just approved anything that came in. That's why so many people have docks and patios built on what is state owned property. They made a lot of them rip them out when they fixed the levee. I had to talk to that guy about stuff for work before and he could not have been less informed.
  3. I think the author of this article and I have very different definitions of the word "massive".
  4. I've got some more speculative updates about this one! Was walking by today and decided to count how many cars are left in the lot. There are only 15 right now and they even had both entrances to the parking lot blocked off with a couple of those 15 cars. By far the fewest cars I have seen on this lot in the past couple years. The business was also closed but their online hours say they are open. Probably isn't happening super soon, but might start to see some action here shortly! EDIT: This is the Super Deal used car lot at 3021 N. High, the corner of High and Weber. Forgot that it only quotes one thing!
  5. I may be thinking of the Quarry Trails townhouses or the ones in Bridge Park, but I think that's exactly what they are going to cost. The Gravity website is hot trash though I can't even figure out how to navigate it to see if they have prices listed or anything. You would think townhouses would be a more affordable way into homeownership since they're a more compact and space efficient version of a single family home, but here we are.
  6. Yeah seems a bit silly. Why can't it just be for seniors in general, why does their sexual orientation matter? Next we are going to see units getting reserved exclusively for left handed hispanic women or red headed men under 5ft6in! They should probably keeps things restricted to age and/or economic situation.
  7. That's some Soviet era or Scandinavian prison type architecture right there!
  8. But.... that falls exactly within the definition of "mixed use". It's really a zoning term not a development term, and this is blending single family, multi family, commercial and recreational (trails and woods) all connected on a pedestrian level. Sounds like a mixing of uses to me!
  9. Might not add much, but I really like how the corner of the building is cut out a bit and not just a big box so you can actually step under there to avoid the elements.
  10. It can be done to look decent, but jutting the garages out in front of the rest of the house is a super weird design choice. It should be reversed with the front entrance of the home being the portion pushed out and on display and the garage set back further.
  11. Are those middle units going to have like one window total? Better hope the back of your unit faces east or west so you at least get some sun for a part of the day.
  12. Yeah that area isn't very fun to visit. I only head that way to visit Target or if I'm going into the actual nice area of Westerville just up the road. As long as they keep all these vehicle traffic heavy businesses clustered together in the existing strip mall/chain areas then I say go for it. They keep building them because they make money, but I hate seeing these places open up in actual pedestrian friendly areas.
  13. It's developments AND news, not development news. If we can't share news in a thread for sharing news then I don't know what's even going on here. The restaurant forum says it's for sharing reviews and articles and social events regarding restaurants.
  14. Columbus Monthly put out a list of restaurant casualties over this past year. Lost a few good ones but I can't say I'm too upset about most of these places closing up shop. Boxwood Biscuit Company was probably the biggest hit for me, when they first opened the quality was just excellent but it quickly went to much smaller gravy portions and were not able to get the same quality of chicken by the end of their run. https://www.columbusmonthly.com/story/lifestyle/food/2022/12/20/notable-columbus-area-restaurant-and-bar-closings-in-2022/69744304007/
  15. Not sure what happened in here that the recent news was removed, but to counter the soulless Five Guys coming to the neighborhood Prestons will be opening their first brick and mortar in the former home of Buddha Bowl. Great to see another local business delve into brick and mortar territory. Will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. https://www.columbusmonthly.com/story/lifestyle/food/2022/12/19/prestons-a-burger-joint-is-moving-to-clintonville/69740782007/
  16. Would be nice to see more apartment/condo units in the 900-1100 or so sq ft range go up for sale.
  17. Cool to see a more unique housing development getting approval. Going to see so many more of your typical 1/4 to 1/8 acre lots where the houses are pretty densely packed together pop up all over Licking County and Central Ohio in the coming years, good to have options for those who want a new home, a bit more privacy but also don't want to be out in the boonies.
  18. Do you know where exactly it's going? I'm all out of free views for the month and I refuse to give the Advocate money after making me jump through 600 hoops to cancel my subscription when I moved.
  19. Such a funny little area right here. Any building could either be in Columbus, Upper Arlington or Clinton Township.
  20. New apartment building on Lane has had some serious progress already. It's no longer a demolition site and is very much a construction site now. Doing some underground utility work right in the middle of Lane and the foundation hole for the new building is already well underway.
  21. Nothing gets me going like the burying of power lines and other utilities! Hate seeing nice areas, or any areas really, with a sky full of wires and poles.
  22. I just don't see it that way. Video gaming isn't some unique industry that requires a ton of specialized equipment that can't be used for other things. It's going to have seats, a stage, a nice sound system and probably a bunch of screen. Sounds like it could be an excellent spot for concerts, plays, corporate events etc. etc. It certainly is not going to be restricted to such a narrow focus of only for gaming, there is no reason to limit the space to these types of uses. You aren't going to not allow speaking events or concerts just because you only want video games there. If the people are willing to pay the money to rent the space out, it'll be used for other purposes. I'd rather see something that versatile be in a walkable urban area where people can make a day out of it as opposed to driving out into the burbs to go to the event and then drive right back home. You mention Top Golf but that is such a specific business model that I don't even see the comparison. Trying to compare a specialized multi-tier sporting recreation facility to what will end up being a large modern arena (the use of the area not really mattering) just makes absolutely no sense to me. It's going to be a versatile space so might as well use it for a variety of things and that seems to be their plan anyways.
  23. Not going to lie, I literally have no idea what any of those places are haha.
  24. Nothing about this image appears to be walkable. It's like 70% parking lots, I'm not too keen on getting run over while walking from parking lot A, across parking lot B, C, D, E, F and G to get to where I'm going. A major aspect of something being walkable is safety, it's right in the definition of the term walkable. Just because you can walk on something does not necessarily means it's technically walkable.
  25. It won't be for a single purpose though. It was stated in the article while the main focus of these facilities is for professional gaming events, they'll be open for other events such as Ted Talks and various other types of acts and events that can draw crowds of up to 2,000 people.
