  1. I'm no expert, but that thing is massive! Actually looks kinda cool to, not like those big smooth rectangles that the spec manufacturing and warehouse buildings typically look like.
  2. If it is, someone needs to go update the Wikipedia page! Still has it listed as "under construction".
  3. New Albany has been an example of that for many years already! Reynoldsburg is an even better example since it's in Franklin, Licking and Fairfield. The cities just have to come up with agreements on which county is providing which services. I use to work for the Licking County Health Department and any New Albany food facilities in Licking County were inspected by Franklin County but in Reynoldsburg it depended on which county your specific area of the city was in so it could be one of three different departments depending on the address.
  4. I take that route multiple times a week to go to Griggs and it's the reason I keep choosing that route even though the students are back and it's way more congested over there. I just love seeing all those new buildings poking up above the trees before you even cross under 315.
  5. This particular area of Tremont just feels so much better with that building in the left of the rendering being at full height with the exterior work basically done. This community center is only going to make the area more vibrant. Props to UA for moving forward with multiple fairly large scale more urban/dense developments. The Arlington Gateway on Lane has really made its presence known now that the entire thing is starting to rise multiple stories high and not just the 11 story part.
  6. I noticed that Tex Experts permanently closed as well. Would be another excellent piece of land to get developed along High St. in Clintonville. Would be another great high density residential building site. Just up the street from campus, access to basically everything you need to survive on foot and right by bus stops. I have no idea how that Subway stays in business though, it never appears open and I rarely ever see cars there. The tobacco shop next door just closed recently as well and that building looks to be in complete disrepair from the outside.
  7. Already have a sizable Japanese business presence in the area thanks to Honda coming here all those years ago and they were followed by a few others. Mitsubishi International Food Imports has a fairly sizable staff as well. If we see even 1/3rd of those Japanese businesses set up some extension of their operation here I say good chance you see more flights out of CMH to Japan, although I doubt there will be direct flights daily maybe more so just a few days a week at best.
  8. Small towns are the absolute worst for government corruption. They can get away with it blatantly in broad daylight. You've got to be a bit sneakier in the cities. It can really turn into a good 'ol boys club where they start focusing on how they can help each other with their power as opposed to how can they help the people they were elected or appointed to represent.
  9. I haven't been down in the area in a bit, at least specifically over on Vine. Have they started demolition of Dahlia and the bar that was across the street yet?
  10. Oh they are going to fight tooth and nail from Johnstown to Granville against more urban developments, including in all the townships in that area. Granville is crazy anti-development already, specifically the village. Granville has literally stopped housing from being built in Newark because it was within an area that happened to be in the Granville school district zone.
  11. To be fair, saying "insert area of Columbus is going to transform in the next 10 years" is a VERY safe bet right now! Can't wait to hear whatever secrets you're keeping!
  12. Yeah the local government of Johnstown is an absolute sh*t show right now. It's like watching a bunch of children fighting on the playground over who gets to use the slide next.
  13. Big time consolation prize though. Lucky's is great. It's so great that this post inspired me to pop over there for a slice of pizza right now. They have a lot of healthier options of staple products which is nice to see. You can do a full grocery trip, you just might not enjoy seeing the price haha. EDIT: 2 hours later update. They had some pepperoni and meatball slices fresh out the oven. I got two and only had time to eat one. Quality slice though, although on the greasy side but that's pretty on par for them.
  14. That is so disappointing to hear. So many neighborhoods *couch cough Clintonville* would look 10x better if there weren't an ungodly mess of hanging wires and mismatched telephone poles lining the streets.
  15. "Do you like shaking hands with your neighbor while you each make breakfast in your own kitchen? Do you enjoy needing to hop in a car to do literally anything? If so, come experience the joys of cookie cutter suburban living without the benefit of homeownership!"
  16. That's very true. When I occasionally pop onto Zillow to have my hopes and dreams crushed I'll see houses for sale way up by the Target in Beechwood area, almost Worthington, have pictures of Lucky's and Harvest in with their photos. That's like at least a 10 minute drive if you're hitting lights!
  17. I was just looking at the Columbus Underground construction roundups for August. There are so many damn things being built right now it's insane, and they only cover a portion of what is happening around the city in those articles. Is anyone even free to think about submitting new proposals? Feel like every developer in the area plus more are already out there with their entire crew working on something!
  18. Like to see more for sale condo units, but is 185K for a 500sq ft studio really necessary?
  19. Could not agree more. I live not too far north of this intersection and it is absolutely not where OSU starts. It is where you start to see the influence from OSU, but Old North has its' own thing going on.
  20. According to something else I read, it's just an old IHOP building. I don't think the building itself is worth saving, but hopefully the business can find a new home in the area. EDIT: Upon some Google Earthing, it's 100% an old IHOP building. Looks exactly like the two IHOPs near where I grew up. Peep the street view of The Little Bar and this IHOP in Massachusetts and you'll see they are almost identical. https://www.google.com/maps/place/IHOP/@41.6700934,-70.2973401,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x793522fb570b48ad!8m2!3d41.6700882!4d-70.2973244
  21. I think the first supplier/support business we heard about was that company which is going to clean all the PPE for Intel and also Boeing. They already have a sign up next to my clients factory in the Heath industrial park. They also appear to be building at least one if not two more facilities on that same street and I have to imagine there is a good chance whatever those buildings end up being will be support for Intel in some capacity.
  22. They wanted to create an urban walkable community. In no way does that mean every single building must have ground floor retail. Having some streets be more residential is absolutely the best move. Even in places like NYC they have streets with no retail and low traffic volume on them to keep the street noise to low volumes. It's pretty cool to go from a hustling and bustling busy city street with shops, restaurants, grocery stores, train stations etc and then head a few blocks away from that onto quiet residential streets. You get the benefit of being a short walk from all the action while also not having a bunch of drunk people spilling out into the streets every night on the road below your windows.
  23. Looks like a mid tier suburban hotel, but functionality is way more important than looks, especially when it comes to low income housing. I'd rather they leave the exterior pretty basic and spend the money on amenities for the residents.
  24. Oh that wasn't a knock on the quality of the builds, just an observation as to why they are popping up so fast!
  25. I absolutely love how this pushes right up against the Clintonville line and all the complainers who live in the neighborhood can't do anything about it since it's in Old North technically. I just want one of these things to get built so people can see it's a good idea and set precedent for more height and density along the High St. corridor through the UD, into Old North and through some of Clintonville.
