Delaware / Ohio Wesleyan University: Developments and News
Huge issue plaguing local/county government offices across the country. They can't keep up with the pay of the private sector. The starting pay is laughable for positions that require 4 year degrees so they don't get many applicants and even then when people accept the job they generally know they are just there to get a few years experience to leverage that into a higher paying job elsewhere. People do not take these jobs and stay there for 30 years anymore, it's not nearly as financially feasible as it once was. That's exactly what I did and it's what many of my former coworkers did. Hell, Delaware Health Department just reached out to me with a job opportunity and even their highest level of pay they would offer to someone with a ton of experience couldn't even come close to matching a salary that would entice someone to leave fully remote work back into daily field work.

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
I like Bridge Park but it is essentially faux urban living. I have a couple friends living there and the units are super nice but obviously on the pricey side of things. The food options are great and the walkability of the immediate area is excellent, although you'll need a car as not everything one needs is there. It isn't anything special though. That's just what it should be like in any urban area. The only thing special about that project is that they tried to create that urban feeling element outside of an existing urban area, and they did do that pretty well.

Vote isn't officially over, but if my basic arithmetic is correct the CHIPS Act will be passing very shortly.

They have spread out with new stores all over the metro area as well. Both Newark and Heath have got new Aldis over the past 5 or so years. I'm sure there are more around as well.

Is it weird to be attracted to a garage access alley? Because that's one fine looking alleyway!

I think I've developed arthritis over the past couple days from "thumbs upping" all these photo posts from our two resident photographers.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
I go downtown for lunch on weekdays sometimes and it doesn't feel like a ghost town to me, although it's not what I would call crowded either (if it was, I probably would not be driving down there for lunch). Downtown is usually pretty hopping on weekends when there are events as well. It's not like it's ever going to be Manhattan levels of crowded on the sidewalks in Columbus though.

That rendering of the Warehouse District they have in there.... If we are going to get to 40K residents we need infill like that. Had no idea the Warehouse District was like 70% parking lots as I never really go over there. Start turning more of these under used ugly surface parking lots into 7+ story buildings already!

Hilliard: Developments and News
I'm guessing it all stems from the fact that the powers that approve these projects are completely fine with surface parking and building a garage is a lot more expensive than making a big flat area. If they had to build garages they probably would, but nobody is making them.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI had that same issue when I lived over near Bethel. If I went out during peak times I often had to park around the corner at my complex where I could not see my car from my apartment. It was honestly a huge factor in why having private parking was a must have when I moved. I wasn't a fan but there wasn't anything to do about it other than move. Now I have a shared driveway between a few other townhouses and we get to deal with people using our driveway as a parking lot to go to the park. There's always some kind of issue! EDIT: And here we are 7 hours later and some stranger is parked in my neighbors spot, likely went to go visit the park.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat's just part of living in an urban area. Nobody complains about it here in Clintonville. Sometimes you can park right outside sometimes you'll be a 2 minute walk up the street. If it's that important to someone to be able to see their car from their living room, they'll get a place with a driveway. Or you can always just never leave your home during the times when street parking gets busy, that's always an option as well.

They still have the sign there at the little parking lot it was proposed for.

Columbus: Ohio Expo Center Developments and News
The article absolutely does not prove they will leave, it just proves that they are willing to threaten to leave. The amount of time, effort and money they would need to sink into finding another acceptable venue with a ton of hotel options nearby that's also accessible for the patrons and participants in an area people would be happy to visit would be an enormous undertaking. Reads as an empty threat to me, especially since the article mentions they've made this threat before.

Columbus: Ohio Expo Center Developments and News
Wait, so we don't know for certain what they have/have not looked into but we know for certain they would leave town (to go where??) if they were asked to use another parking lot for some cars? I don't understand this logic at all. The organization that hosts this event is headquartered here and it's right in the middle of the State in a rapidly growing city, I think they could give a little leeway and still be happy.

Columbus: Ohio Expo Center Developments and News
Seems like a fairly simple issue that can be solved by putting any effort into planning as far as I can see. Why not lease a lot somewhere else for the month, have trailers come in, do what they need to do and then head to the other lot and shuttle people over? Or do the opposite, limit all visitor parking to an offsite location and shuttle the visitors in and reserve all the onsite parking for trailers with horses. Seems super short sighted to just cry "my parking!" when they haven't even attempted to do anything to mitigate the issue or plan for the future of either the site growing or the event itself growing. I'm sure there are some large lots in South Linden they could lease for the month or they could coordinate with OSU and use football parking when there isn't games, parking for the Schot or somewhere else. They should try and do something other than just saying "Screw you Columbus, this event for people not from here is more important than those of you that live here". Just look at how they handle The Memorial golf tournament in Dublin. The golf course obviously can't handle all the PGA tournament traffic volume so they coordinate with the Zoo and have people park there then shuttle patrons over. Limits congestion onsite and probably spreads some more money around the local community by hiring shuttle services, bus drivers etc.

Columbus: Ohio Expo Center Developments and News
That's such a lame excuse... Basically what they are saying is they never had any interest in negotiating because they might be slightly inconvenienced at some point. There is so much space there, just build a garage and plan the events accordingly and have dedicated areas for trailers and what not during that one event where people have trailers. Peoples love of surface parking is just baffling.

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYeah this is 100% where Susie's was, once I've been in a space I basically remember it forever haha. I know when they had the tiny space in Granville basically their entire purpose was to make dozens and dozens of cookies for the Granville schools to sell in their cafeterias. Might be why they had odd hours. Not that this matters, but there's actually a door behind the counter in the photo here that leads upstairs to some amazing living spaces that were not renovated when I was up there (probably 2018-2019) but were absolutely amazing with probably like 18ft high ceilings. It's like a time capsule in the upstairs in a lot of these downtown Newark buildings, and I mean that in the best way possible. So much potential.

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDarn, was hoping you had some insider info! I was the health inspector for Newark for about 3 years and this was one of those places I licensed that went from a non-food business to a food business. Just sucks to see someone put all the work into making a place licensable as a food facility and then have things outside their control force them to close.

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDid the bakery/cafe that was there previously die during covid? They worked so hard to upgrade into this space after working in a shoebox in Granville for years.
