  1. They're erecting that steel crazy fast. I feel like one day I drove by and we just had our tall concrete elevator shafts and the next day there was 3+ floors of steel up. This thing is going to be beefy!
  2. There is still so much room to expand in the Heath Industrial Park / Port Authority and also the Hebron Industrial Park which is literally 5-10 more minutes further south on 79. Last time I was over in the Heath one they were already building some spec buildings and a few other manufacturing operations have opened up in there in recent years (such as the plant based seafood manufacturer). Should be a good decade of investment and development in both these areas.
  3. The Moo Moo on West Henderson in Upper Arlington has signs out on the road now saying "DO NOT WAIT FOR THE CAR WASH IN THE STREET, YOU WILL BE TICKETED" so clearly it's an issue that people have complained about. Now only if they would start ticketing the people blocking the roads waiting in line at literally every Starbucks in the city...
  4. Welcome to the exciting world of local politics where personal opinions affecting big decisions and stubborn board members are the norm! It's an absolutely infuriating process, it's a major reason why I had to get out of government work.
  5. There are so many spots on literally every little side street right in that area. People are just so afraid of walking for whatever reason. When I have friends visit who don't live in the city I want to smack them when they complain about us having to walk 5 minutes to get somewhere. It should not be expected that you can park right in front of the door to a business, that's just crazy! Reclaim the streets for pedestrians!
  6. I grew up in New England and literally every single pizza place had a type of lunch combo slice deal. Two huge slices (cut the pie into 6 not 8 slices) and a drink for like $5.50+ depending on toppings. This is a trend I DESPERATELY want to gain some footing here. First things first would be to get pizza shops to actually open for lunch though! I'm in Clintonville and the only spot I can even think to get slices is one of the grocery stores. Make pizza slice lunch combos the norm Columbus!
  7. I love a good rectangle with perfectly symmetrical window placement. The PNC Building looks like it could be the smaller cousin of Republic Plaza in Denver. Nice, clean and simple executed very well.
  8. Fantastic example of one of these old school buildings being repurposed for housing right in Downtown Newark. The images I saw of the interior were so awesome. They repurposed old lockers for storage in the units and others had the original gym floor for flooring. It's just so damn cool when these old buildings are not only repurposed for modern uses, but they also preserve the character and history of the structure in the interior as well.
  9. Such a shame to see a beautiful old structure just left to rot for 3 decades. Can't imagine we have too many serviceable structures still standing from the 1800s left in this city. I hope they can at least save some of the materials and use them for other projects to give them some character.
  10. These old photos are absolutely awesome, thanks for sharing!
  11. If you think of state employees as files it basically is just a giant filing cabinet.
  12. I think it looks cool, it has a unique design that I can appreciate.
  13. I've given up all hope on this building being used for something cool. There have always been talks and always been "big things coming" and nothing ever happens. I wish I was as optimistic as the owner is about the Intel development actually making this a desirable piece of property. Whatever they do, just please don't turn it into housing. It should remain somewhat accessible to the public, there are plenty of other places to build more housing in Newark.
  14. Wait a second, what is this about a new Owens Corning building? I have not heard a single thing about that! I'm going to reach out to my dad and see if he knows anything about this new build next to Boeing as well, that white building in the parking lot right in front of Boeing is his stomping ground. He hears things from time to time but never relays any interesting information to me because he couldn't care less about this stuff! EDIT: All he has heard is it's being cleared for "future development"
  15. Those areas of the city serve entirely different main purposes. One is geared much more towards the 8-5 M-F working crowd and the other is a "live and play" type neighborhood designed to have an active pedestrian streetscape. I'm not sure what there is to compare. I've had no issues being a pedestrian in either personally. But if by "popular" you mean which area has more people moving in and out the most frequently, it's downtown not the short north. That's like trying to compare the popularity of Soccer to Football in the US, "popular" is an arbitrary measurement. Both can be "popular" while also having huge disparities in the amount of fans as an example. I'd also imagine the permanent resident population of the two areas is very comparable.
  16. Boston is a VERY unique American city though. It's not even worth comparing Boston urban development to other cities in the US, especially midwestern cities that weren't even founded until the 1800s. Boston had almost 200 years of development at this point. They deal with a lot more variables when considering new builds that just aren't applicable in the majority of the US. Also been building tall a lot in recent years and there are no signs of that stopping.
  17. Yeah a lot of people seem to be glancing over this. When Intel went to Arizona not only was sprawl encouraged, it was exactly what everyone wanted. Back then the yard with a white picket fence was a fairly universal dream and almost an expectation and was the ultimate measure of success. People were moving away from the cities, not towards them and development was designed to accommodate cars and be spread out. Things are basically the opposite today, I would not expect the Intel boom here to be exclusively suburban although there will certainly be a ton of suburban development, just not exclusively suburban developments. Plenty of the people coming here are going to want to live in Columbus.
  18. Filling in those "nowhere" gaps between Columbus and Newark will be pretty awesome. There's a lot of room to grow in that corridor, especially for residential developments.
  19. My parents bought a new build up on the North end in early 2020 (neighborhood across from the Trout Club). They were one of three houses on the street and now there are probably 12 or so, and that doesn't count all the other streets in the neighborhood. Every lot is either built or being built. The new development a bit further south seems to be moving fast and those houses/condos right at the Trout Club are also being built pretty damn quick. Really cool to see so much growth in the area. I'm also very curious to hear about these rumors.... Need to get my parents to more quality local food establishments.
  20. We can want all those things all at the same time!
  21. I've seen so much change in my 6 short years in Ohio, I'm pretty optimistic over here! I have no reason to believe they'd all of a sudden stop now, especially with all the money that'll be coming to Central Ohio and Columbus.
  22. I see a lot more gaps left to fill!
  23. The speed at which projects have been getting going here has been insanely impressive recently. Feel like I've seen multiple central Ohio projects go from announced to approved to shovels in the ground in as short a time as a few months recently. Intel does have a lot of incentive to get going ASAP though!
  24. Well this is interesting to hear! I wonder if it's other "big" companies coming in to support the Intel development or if it has absolutely nothing to do with this and another giant in some other industry is considering a huge investment in the area. Either way, it's all great for Ohio and all bad for my prospects of being a property owner anytime soon haha.
  25. I really like hearing this from someone who actually seems to be directly affected by this new development, it's incredibly self aware. Nobodies land is being taken, so much of it is just disappearing because the money is just way too good. I respect your choice to stick it out, nobody should be judged for staying or selling, everyone can make their own decisions.
