New Albany: New Albany International Business Park / Silicon Heartland
Yes, it's just happening in the parking lot. I want to go inside! I know there are a ton of development projects happening here right now, but I'm specifically talking about a major investment (100s of millions or a billion) from an out of state company here in Central Ohio to establish themselves in the area. That would give this city national recognition in a plethora of different ways. You'd be surprised how many people around the country have no idea what/where Columbus is outside of CFB/NHL/MLS fans or think it's just a tiny little city that nobody lives in.

Why would there be stuff about airport terminals in the convention center thread?? Just did a search and find and the word "terminal" isn't in that thread?

New Albany: New Albany International Business Park / Silicon Heartland
As awesome as this is, I do kind of wish they waited until there were more details to announce anything. I know it's very easy for us all here to get really excited about these big projects, but all we really have to go on is "there might possibly potentially maybe be something happening!" and it's going to be super disappointing if it doesn't.

Not to mention we have 70 and 71 as well as Rickenbacher (sp?) where I assume they could also ship via the air. I don't think proximity to an ocean is even a factor in the selection of this place since these chips are likely intended to stay within the US.

Is this the first one to go up in Columbus proper?

TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWow it's pretty awesome to see the city actually being proactive when it comes to some form of public transportation for once. Really hope this one goes through.

Zanesville / Muskingum County: Developments and News
Damn that's incredibly sad. Sucks to lose an old building like this to something so tragic. Hope the organization can find somewhere else to go. Those fraternal organizations are dying so this could be a death sentence for this particular chapter, assuming they still even occupied the place.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBut if homes are getting "gobbled up" to be used as Air BnBs wouldn't a family which could have lived there need to move somewhere else? And if there isn't anywhere in the area to move, isn't that a housing shortage? Are those potential families also possibly being forced to rent due to the increased demand for housing in this area? And if there isn't anywhere to rent, wouldn't someone have to build them? These people really don't think about anything other than "why is this negatively impacting me, and if there isn't anything obvious what can I make up".

The infill house also doesn't look very good either. An odd lack of windows/poorly placed windows on that big flat side, feel like it's going get pretty inconsistent natural light in that thing.

Still amazes me how quickly they get these things built. Almost seems like someone has an idea of where to build one on a Monday, purchases the land Tuesday, gets all the approvals on Wednesday, builds the thing on Thursday and then they're open for business by Friday.

TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionCarvana also has a large brand new facility in Heath as well. I don't think they sell cars out of here but rather inspect and/or repair them to get approval to be sold. Cool how they are making a fairly significant investment in central Ohio and Ohio as a whole.

Gahanna: Developments and News
Okay the developer also including some kind of public art display along with this development is amazing. I would absolutely love if that became more of a normal thing or a condition the various different approval boards put on developers in order to get approval in the first place.

That entire area is going to be so cool once it's done. Will be really nice to have that under utilized section of the river more accessible and active as well.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I think that varies wildly from project to project, but I do remember hearing earlier this year they were targeting Spring 2022 for groundbreaking. I'm not sure if this getting approved yesterday keeps the project on track for that timetable though.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I think we knew this was inevitable, but it sure is good to have it be official! Excited to watch this one go up and it's cool this will expand on the North Market so it actually benefits residents and visitors to the city. Have there been any renderings out there of what this would look like in the skyline?

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAnother fun fact: I had the owners number because every time he would tell me to call him and we could set up a time to do the inspection when the sun was out. He never actually delivered on that promise, but anytime he called me the caller ID would read SANTA CLAUS. He did not know how or why this phenomenon occurred.

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI use to sit right in the corner of that lot by Main Street at 9pm+, often eating McDonald's, waiting to see if Somewhere Else Bar would decide to open that night so I could go inspect it when I worked for the Licking County Health Department. I absolutely hated going to those two bars to inspect them haha. Once these lots are gone my bad memories of working 5 extra hours just for them to not even open, forcing me to do the same damn thing some other day, will begin to fade I hope!

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAside from a few loft apartments being renovated around the square downtown, I'm pretty sure these are the first apartments being built in Newark in ages. Been in Ohio since 2016 and I don't think they've built anything in that time. That plus the first new housing development being constructed in the city in over a decade off of Horns Hill Road, it's a very exciting time for the growth of Newark! They really were missing a more modern apartment rental option in the area and this should fill that void nicely. Still hope to hear about residential/mixed use developments going in on land near both the Newark Walmart and Heath Walmart. Been hearing about them for years at this point but never seen anything official.

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNice detailed article about The Landing at Newark Station development. Looks like it got conditional approval yesterday! This will go in those crappy old vacant lots across the street from Tony's Bar and Somewhere Else Bar on the corner of Main and 11th. _____________________________________________________________________________________ https://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2021/12/15/landing-newark-station-apartments-slated-main-11-th-streets/8902935002/ NEWARK — A vacant lot on the corner of West Main and South 11th streets, an area once used as parking for the corner bars across the street, will become home to a three-story apartment complex. The Newark Planning Commission gave conditional approval Tuesday to a site plan for The Landing at Newark Station, a 108-unit multi-family development adjacent to Newark Station, the $11 million multi-use project that started this year on the 10-acre former White-Westinghouse industrial site. Seth Stout, a partner with Horus & Ra Development, of Columbus, said construction should begin next summer on The Landing, which consists of three buildings of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and studio apartments on the 2.8-acre parcel. Stout is also a partner in the Newark Station development. “This has been quite an adventure and quite a treat to work on this project and the adjacent Newark Station development," Stout said. "This, for us, is really an opportunity to not only do what we’re passionate about but help expand the growth of downtown Newark and be a home for young professionals serving a product that really doesn’t exist in this area."
