If only the Le'veque Tower was 250ft taller and maybe a bit thicker as well. She's a beaut!

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
If anything, having a corporate named stadium is the norm now here in the US. All of the US stadiums that don't have corporate naming sponsors and super old like Fenway Park and mostly seem to be baseball fields. The name is absolutely the least important part about a stadium.

Well no point in changing it now! I like not better this way now that you've pointed it out.

I really hope they get right to it with the next phase of the development. Keep people excited for tall the improvements in the area.

There just shouldn't be any weird surface parking lots like that in the Arena District/Downtown on prime real estate.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
The scale of these projects is awesome, but I'm honestly more impressed with how fast they are moving. You can literally see visible progress every day they are working on the sites.

TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat wouldn't be a discussion for this thread as it is not UA.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Apparently other companies have been getting large office tenants to lease space all around the city, mostly heard about it in new builds that aren't completed yet. Yes there will be a good chunk of people who will be working from home, but office space will always be needed. Not every workplace is as efficient from home, some places need to collaborate on projects daily and that's a lot easier to do when you can just walk over to Dave's desk as opposed to waiting 3 hours for them to respond to an email. I have a feeling office culture will go back to at least 70-80% capacity so places will still need offices, just not as big of offices.

TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't care where people think "the arts" should be, it's just great to see them investing money into cool stuff like this that we can all enjoy. Anything that helps make our city more interesting is good in my book!

TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIf you're talking about all those new builds right at Lane/Kenny where the sports fields are/were, those are all Ohio State buildings for their west campus expansion district.

TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDrove past over the weekend but looks like they are making some quick work at the Arlington Gateway site. They had some steel beams already in ground at the edge of the parcel over by Starbucks. They've got the privacy netting up though so it's tough to see everything but there is a lot of equipment there and some holes being dug out as well.

Between this and the OSU building, that's over 5 billion invested into healthcare facilities in the city. That's pretty cool.

Reynoldsburg: Developments and News
I love how a developer proposes a use for a site staying exactly within the confines of what that parcel of land is zoned for a people are STILL opposed to it. And it's always the same concerns which can be addressed and planned for. "it doesn't fit the character of the neighborhood", "it's going to increase traffic" and then there's always the "I've been here for X amount of years and blah blah blah" crowd as well. You live in a rapidly growing metro area! Change is coming and a lot of it is going to have so many positive impacts on the community that these NIMBYS always fail to see because they are opposed to change because it scares them for whatever reason. Any impacts the addition of a lot of new housing in an area will have, both positive and negative, can be planned and accounted for to limit that potential negative impact (e.g., it will impact traffic? then work with the developer to have them widen roads, create dedicated turn lanes, traffic lights etc.).

This project is really starting to feel big now. You drive down High Street and you really notice how massive this project is and it isn't even close to topping out.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Honestly the renderings with the logo on the roof look pretty damn cool. I'm not a fan of the .com part in the name, but it's great to see a local company that isn't a giant multinational corporation secure the naming rights to the field. It's awesome that this entire project was done with the actual city of Columbus in mind like how they are going to have local food businesses have stalls inside the stadium and all that.

Is Mayor Coleman big on density and upward development? I'm not familiar with his involvement and his mayoral terms preceded my residency here so I'm just not familiar with his policies either.

Columbus: Children's Hospital Projects
Would be very sad to see 5 story or so buildings which aren't that old being torn down in 10-20 years time all because they were not planning for future growth and density increases but now they need to go 15+ to accommodate the influx of new residents to Central Ohio.

Upper Arlington: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI know they are demolishing the old high school, but why? Is there something planned for the site already? Or is this just preparing the site to advertise it for development or something?

Columbus: Children's Hospital Projects
15 stories or higher needs to just start being the norm in these much more dense areas. I hate seeing prime real estate be wasted on a 5 story or so building.

Newark: Developments and News
TIm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI kinda see where you are coming from, but why does Newark need industrial jobs? Especially right here? There are WAY more than 10 houses near this site as well. There are dozens of houses immediately north, east, south and west of this site. There are also a multitude of other industries which are doing very well in Newark and there are an insane amount of industrial jobs in the area for people who want to work in that industry. Not to mention the one major industrial facility in Newark, Owens Corning, is at about 20% of its workforce compared to its heyday. Small time manufacturing and operations are thriving in Newark though so finding someone who would want to use this facility would be nearly impossible seeing as it was available for industrial uses for over a decade and just sat essentially vacant because nobody wanted it. That 16/79 interchange right there is not equipped for that type of traffic as I mentioned before and if Main Street is already one of the busiest areas around this part of Newark, why would you want it to get busier? There would need to be infrastructure upgrades which the very oddly laid out interchange would not be able to accommodate. Do you really want to be stuck behind an 18 wheeler trying to do that 200ft death merge onto 79 to get over to 16 east? I completely understand where you are coming from when you say you want more jobs in the City of Newark and want the tax money to stay in the city, but this site is just so poorly situated for any type of heavy industrial use at this stage in the cities life cycle that it would just create problems. This redevelopment of the site as is will bring in so much more money to Newark compared to an almost entirely vacant facility with a "for lease" sign out front, which is what it has been for ages and would likely continue to be since there are so many better sites in Central Ohio to develop for industrial use. EDIT: These types of discussions are fantastic though and I appreciate your thoughts.
