Great tour, Hayward! I don't know much about Ann Arbor at all. What is the make-up of this district as far as students to families? Is that Angell Elementary a good school? The pictures make it look like a great neighborhood even for families; but sometimes that's tough to tell... Thanks - great shots. (oh.... and go bucks)

I remember my first big snowstorm as a student at OSU. We trudged down to the oval, and when we got there it looked like something from the civil war... there must have been literally 1000 people on each side firing snowballs back and forth. then we went home and burned our couch for warmth... ok, kidding about that part... or am I?.... wow... the good old days...

from an architect's standpoint, I seriously can't understand how Cincinnati doesn't have a planning department. And I'm speaking literally, here... I really don't understand how they don't have a planning dept! Who do all the plan reviewers report to? Is is all just fragmented around city hall? I suppose I could go check it out online, but what fun is that??? Interesting articles - I'm not sure how the city is running now, but it would sure seem that an effective planning department would be essential.

David - this kind of universal statement is way off base. It drives me crazy when people make over-generalized statements like this - where is the proof? Is Austin, Texas a much bigger city? Is Portland, Oregon a much bigger city? Is the Raleigh/Durham area a much bigger city? No - and yet all of these places have become hubs of creative job growth. In my opinion, your unsubstantiated claim clearly illustrates a huge problem of perception versus reality. I think we can all agree that there is a portion of the population (creative or not) that will be attracted to life in a big city. But there is also a big population of creative thinkers who want to live in small- to mid-sized cities. These are the markets I believe serve as good comparisons - especially to columbus or cincy.

I believe that Rando's co-op (as part of the very respected UC DAAP program) is much more substantial than what other's may think of when they hear "internship." Correct me if I'm wrong. In any event, I think we should be careful with generalizing any type of work experience based on what a few people may or may not have done in our offices. What I'd really like to do is direct the thread in a slightly different direction. I want to know how the current "brain drain" situation in Ohio is similar/different than other comparable mid-sized american cities. Sure, I realize that there are sexier jobs in LA, SF, NY, etc... but do we really want to compare Ohio cities with those? Is that a fair comparison? I'd like to hear concrete examples (which are so often not to be found in this type of discussion) of how the brain drain situation in Cincy/Columbus/Cleveland compares with St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Indy etc... Are there better situations in place currently than in Ohio; and if so, please explain.

I read that to be eligible for a four game suspension like this, Odell must have already been in the NFL substance abuse program... To me, that's the most frustrating thing... if he was already in trouble, and yet he still couldn't stay clean. I feel really bad for carson. Here he is busting his ass to rehab his knee so he can get out on the field... and then his teammates are letting him down like this. And to think how tough our first four games are, and now we go in with a starting linebacker corps of pollack (great potential, but still a work in progress), Simmons (shows flashes of great play, but disappears way too much) and landon johnson (great football instincts, but way undersized...) I'm worried...

I believe (please don't quote me if I'm wrong...) one of the main reasons for focusing on the east corridor now was that the ballot results were much more favorable in the east side communities (hyde park, mt. lookout) than other areas of the city. Of course I agree the downtown/clifton connection would be the most important - and I can't see any feasible proposal ignoring that (at least for very long). Oh well, let's all keep our fingers crossed...

facsinating... sorry if I missed it, but how did you learn all this? Very interesting - and a nice alternative to the "standard" photo thread. I have family that grew up in Reston, and it was always interesting to me how they refered to the central area of the town as "downtown" when to me it looked much more like "the local mall".
