Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Ingles got his start at OMA. He may have left that studio with the diagram, but he discarded the situationalism, the constructivism, the surrealism, and the playful, but incisive, modernist critique which antagonizes all that building as diagram proselytizing and produces buildings that are actually interesting. In other words, my post above wasn't an endorsement.

The Center of Cincinnati has put me in the awkward position of admiring stuff like this on the city's perimeter. Thanks Center of Cincinnati.

I lived on Hoff for years, which is adjacent to the Homerama site. The Oasis Line was in my backyard. The freight there is random, yes, but negligible, and it travels so slowly that it makes very little noise. I would think it would be even less now, since that was about 20 years ago. Commuter is another story, of course.

I think citing the nascence of the process is bad cover for bad design. The early stuff should be aspirational. To start here and hope to get better through iteration is moving in the right direction in the wrong vehicle, imo.

At first glance, the difference between project and built is pretty stark.

Pretty uninspiring and unambitious. Disappointing to see a featureless wall along Vandalia. Seems like it would have been a good place for storefronts...or balconies.

Should have posted the video for Short Unhappy People, instead.

Sorry that all I have to offer are asides, but I wish Sam Adams would lean into their Cincinnati beer recipe. Great to have the Brewery, and Jim Koch has done some noble things in the past for some historical Cincinnati brands, but it's awkward that Cincinnati brews a Boston Beer that came from Cincinnati.

Are there any examples of good uptown rents buildings to go on for this? The only thing I've ever walked away thinking about their properties is that those blue signs are way too damn big.

Batsakes is a bit of a different beast than a coffee shop. People from around the country buy hats from there.

DHL is back from Wilmington at CVG and is the Americas hub. Amazon is currently leasing space from them.

An Aside: Please replace the Spyglass with something that really does the topography justice. That little bluff is such a unique urban feature, and a missed opportunity (like Bald Knob, Goat Hill et al.).

The Airport is going to be a juggernaut. Hopefully Passenger numbers keep increasing, as well.

I got jumped in front of this place in the 90s. I Had some friends who lived next door to Kilgore's and was leaving to go home with a friend when a carful of like 6 drunk guys stopped at the corner and one threw a can of beer at me. I made the mistake of telling him he missed. They all got out of the car and we ran until they caught us right in front of the deli and kicked the crap out of us. Not sure why we didn't run back into my friends' house. There were like 20 people there.

8 figures and a building that looks like a suburban hotel. Hot stuff.

I trust that Kay Bea is looking at what the opposition actually represents. She's an architect and professor at OSU, and knowing her, it's comical to imagine the insinuation that she's swayed by Facebook groups or flimsy NIMBY arguments. I don't know the inner workings of this project, but on the surface it's absolutely awful looking.

Good to see all these photos. I'm not in Cincinnati, so it's nice to see the jump in time from google street to here. Has there been any talk about bringing the spire back to the Paramount building? The proportions are so much better with it.

The document linked on Wed. states that the Central Parkway building is to be 7 stories, but the rendering shows 6.

Shame they can't have that middle strip, as well. You could so much site specific public/private work with that. It would almost ensure an interesting solution.
