Interstate 75: Liberty Interchange in Butler County
Project faces questions from feds By Candice Brooks Staff Writer Wednesday, September 27, 2006 HAMILTON — Three years into the $50 million Liberty Interchange project, it is threatened to be denied by the Ohio Division of the Federal Highway Administration. That's the news John Fonner, director of the Butler County Transportation Improvement District, delivered to the county commissioners Tuesday morning. FHA approval is required for any modification to an inter-state, whether funded directly by the FHA or locally-funded, as the interchange project will be. ... http://www.journal-news.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2006/09/27/hjn092706interchange.html

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
I disagree with this - I think most of these folks are the ones who do care - they actually took time out of their day to talk to the council and try to motivate all of us to do something about crime. I do agree with the chief's comments but they were really ill-timed. Hopefully in the end some good will come of this...

Cincinnati: Delhi Pike
Federal funding! Not to mention one less jurisdiction for Hamilton County. We all talk about how a city-county uni-gov would be soo great, but it seems when something is on the table that would progress towards that goal...the same people seem to fade away into the sunset and perform the NIMBY routine. I think we would want to know if the amount of Federal, State, or whatever $$$$ funding - if available at all - would offset the cost that Cincy would incur from annexing Delhi.

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
West Chester Ikea store to open in fall 2007 Cincinnati Business Courier - 8:39 AM EDT Tuesday Swedish retailer Ikea confirmed Tuesday that it plans to build a store in West Chester, at Allen and Muhlhauser roads, south of the Union Centre exit from Interstate 75. Construction should begin on the 339,000-square-foot store this fall, Ikea said in a news release. The store is expected to open in fall 2007, with an inventory of 10,000 items, three model homes and 50 room settings. A children's play area and a 300-seat restaurant featuring Swedish cuisine will be included. The store will employ about 400 and expects to draw customers from across the region, including Columbus, Indianapolis, Dayton, Lexington and Louisville, Ikea said in the release. The West Chester Ikea will be the first built in Ohio. The retailer operates 237 stores in 34 countries, with 28 in the United States. Currently, its nearest stores are in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Canton, Mich. MORE: http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/

Norwood budget deficit woes
It sounds like the city of norwood has a bunch of outdated contracts with city depts that were negotiated during the good ole days of GM, etc. Maybe they are afraid to break the contracts for fear that they'll be sued by unions and subject to more financial losses. I don't see any benefit to Cincy in annexing Norwood (even if it were possible) all it would do is boost our population numbers. Maybe once they settle their finances it might make sense.

Mr. Anderson replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhether you like it or not....I believe this statement is sumed up as a capitalistic venture. Those with more money have more power. This is just the way it goes, and everybody is not safe, because power and money will not go away and will continue to have significant influence across America. :| We can all rest a little easier tonight knowing that some developer can not come along and offer us 1.5X or 2X the value of our home for some econ dev project.

Mr. Anderson replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction??You can't spend money when it's in escrow - it (the $$$$) is usually set aside with a third party pending the outcome of the trial/appeal.
