  1. Yeah, what a waste of space for a suburban office building...
  2. US Steel to build a new HQ at the old arena site. Basically, right next door to their old tower. This will be formally announced today...
  3. Office-building developers busy in Pittsburgh http://www.post-gazette.com/business/2014/10/17/Developers-flock-to-Downtown-before-space-runs-out/stories/201410170069
  4. 16 stories hardly out of scale, but the design ain't great. It doesn't help to sit on a parking garage. That said, if building has to sit on a parking garage, I guess sandwiched between 279 and PNC Park is a good place.
  5. More buildings planned for the North Shore: http://triblive.com/news/adminpage/6932025-74/stabile-north-shore#axzz3FYIZ6t3T
  6. MARTA service is ok in the city, especially the linear stops along downtown to Midtown, but it barely touches the burbs.
  7. Oxford seemed to be really only interested in a new tower, even though they had said they were deciding between a new tower and fixing the old one.
  8. Oxford Development will build another tower downtown, though only 20 stories.... http://www.post-gazette.com/business/2014/08/15/Oxford-Development-working-to-once-again-leave-its-mark-on-skyline-with-world-class-tower/stories/201408150056
  9. The Pittsburgh Business times had an article on downtown and had this nice shot of the PNC tower progress...
  10. City estimates usually arrive in the summer.
  11. Thought some folks here might find this interesting: Chiquita to merge with Irish produce company http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/03/10/4755019/chiquita-to-merge-with-irish-produce.html#.Ux4jWYWQM1I
  12. Yes there was a restriction that ended in the mid 80s, which is why its modern taller skyline burst in the late 80s and early 90s
  13. I live in Atlanta - MARTA is ok in the city, but barely extends beyond it and suburban counties are hugely populated without little transit options. It's a mess and the ice storm exposed this, but really any normal traffic days highlights Atlanta's problems. Many assume it's normal sprawl, but it's much worse than that.
  14. But the director is right. It's not coming back. It really sucks, yes and also it pisses me off that the government basically let's this happen - well, fine but support the dehubbed airports. At least let them get back some advantage and get fees down. It's ridiculous.
  15. Also they broke this during the weekend. Did they think it was go under the radar??
  16. An additional issue with this - yes other airlines will add flights - there will be demand and possible cheaper, but how many will be direct? Not the mention the direct loss to the regional economy. It's just awful... Cincy, Pittsburgh too. And oddly USAir who was hurt badly after 9/11 (and hardly great before it) killed the PIT hub, but added a major reservation center about 5 years ago. Well with its merger, they killed that this past week or so.
  17. Just saw that United Airlines is dehubbing Cleveland. That sucks. it's not unexpected, but it sucks really bad.
  18. Wouldn't it make more sense to sell building and build their new building somewhere else? Aside from the fact it seems like a building worth saving, it seems like an additional cost burden to destroy it.
  19. Thanks for the input. I'm sorry to see the conversation go in a bad direction based on a conversation that I started, but thanks again for everyone's thoughts. Look forward to reading more great stuff.
  20. Once again, these numbers are more accurate for more metros than inaccurate. As for why would Charlotte gain so many people when it was hit so hard - well this estimate is total net change - we don't see migration or natural change - Charlotte would gain in net population change on births alone without much migration I'm (obviously over time that would mean diminishing returns).
  21. Yes Atlanta was way off, but for the few Atlanta's, there are many, many more areas that are more accurately estimated.
  22. Mainly IRS data and births and deaths.
  23. I'm not sure where best to ask this and I know this is very general, but I'm not from Cleveland (but it's a great city and I'm rooting for its success). I've been reading the various threads and catching up on activity. My question is that it seems like a lot of activity. Would you say that was is happening is more than previous years or is there truly a critical mass of projects and will it help propel a momentum to compound growth (economic, migration etc) and truly turn the corner (I mean city and metro).
  24. Those companies need to be taxed. It's what texas does and helps the state have lower taxes on residents. If anyone (Republican or otherwise) think that a tax will discourage drilling, they need only look to states like Texas that have been doing this for decades.

Really impressive. Some really great downtown buildings there.
