  1. And a shiny new transportation center on the south side would be nice.
  2. ^ Nice. The Short North definitely has a certain look. I mean, if you simply showed UO that building and played "Guess Where?, I bet 90 percent would guess it was SN.
  3. Under that logic though bikes should also be on the sidewalk.

    FEED THE RAT.
  5. I scored this old book The Rover Boys on the Great Lakes from a garage sale in Vermilion. Some really interesting depictions of a thriving city of Cleveland circa 1901. The Rover Boys were the precursor to the better known Hardy Boys. The author, Edward Stratemeyer, was the maybe the most prolific writer ever. He sold more than 500 million books. Here's the audio: edit - so this reading is kind of terrible. I recommend just reading the book: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Rover_Boys_on_the_Great_Lakes
  6. Are you honestly surprised nobody uses these during a downpour?
  7. Nice to see some more rebound...it's been a long long time!
  8. You can't. You can, however, accept "backup offers" which aren't actually binding, but in hot markets they're fairly common. People will put in an offer on a place that already has an accepted offer so that if that accepted offer falls through they can already have an offer in on the property. My friend put in a backup offer on a 4-unit in Lakewood. He went +15k over the asking price and all cash. I wouldn't be surprised if the seller sabotaged his own electrical panel to get out of the contract. But my friends offer did in fact end up getting accepted.

^^ I so want to see those buildings in the lower right to be retained and repurposed in any future development.
  10. I did a little more digging. It looks like it's proprietor, Sherman Rappaport, produced displays for conventions and exhibits. https://books.google.com/books?id=PyEEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA53&ots=KwPWfMevfS&dq=%22sherman%20rappaport%22%20cleveland%20studios&pg=PA53#v=onepage&q=%22sherman%20rappaport%22%20cleveland%20studios&f=false Huh. I could picture them being a big player in the mad-men era of advertising in CLE. A friend told me once the ad guys used to test run their ideas across their colleagues at the Hermit Club, which consequently is a stones throw away from Rappaport.
  11. I was interested in whatever Rappaport Studios (still not sure) but I found this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Slide-Rappaport-Studios-in-Cleveland-OH-Ohio-1940s/401562701743
  12. Almost nobody will ride them. Plus the cold will drain the batteries. These scooters are a toy, not the future of urban transportation. Almost nobody is using them in lieu of riding the bus or driving their car. It's inducing demand for frivolous unnecessary trips. It sure seems people are using them for short commutes in San Diego. Especially when downtown is crowded or in the hoods where there's virtually no parking.
  13. Obviously the CA Republican candidate for governor is going to continue use these costs and challenges to try and shoot down HSR. He won't likely win the election, but if the issue damages Newsom politically it will be interesting to see how he proceeds. https://www.politifact.com/california/statements/2017/sep/29/antonio-villaraigosa/has-gavin-newsom-flip-flopped-californias-high-spe/
  14. It's not like we don't know that. We've known about it for years..... If WTAM had to pay royalties on that quote then Mayor Jackson would have millions!
  15. Other Ohio cities are figuring things out. Meanwhile in Cleveland... Yeah lol. They were totally blindsided and only had several months to form some type of coherent policy.
  16. Maybe the Mayor thinks the scooters will cause too much disruption to the riders of dirt bikes.
  17. Sarasota is really on the rise. It's quite a bit different than other cities in FL. A good deal of arts and culture.
  18. Nice. I think my least favorite aspect of 515 is the aesthetic of the original parking garage, but have to say that at night the garage section is looking really cool.
  19. ^ thanks for the insights. Though I would think that if he needed tuition money for the kids he would want to sell.
  20. This gentleman would like a word with you lol.
  21. You could wrap the windowless box of the theater, with restaurant/bar/ticket areas and other retail similar to how some parking garages are wrapped with retail to hide the ugliness. So yes it's possible. Think about the theaters at Tower city. You can't even see them from the exterior of the complex and the main entrance is buffered from the exterior by the beginning of the walkway to Gateway and all its windows. I think our waterfront district deserves this.
  22. The lack of windows is starting to bother me. As for the theater they should be able to make the hallways, cafe space and common areas toward the outside of the "box." That way these could be actual window views for patrons.
  23. The legacy lives on...sort of. https://clevelandcyclewerks.com/
  24. There could be preservation issues. But a sign could be placed on the plaza identifying the retail center and transit station. Is it also problematic that the Terminal Tower and Tower City have different owners but are conjoined? Specifically the Public Square entrance. But I agree the wayfinding is BAD. I don’t think a visitor would know stores, a movie theater or the rapid station lies behind those doors. RTA should/could benefit from some classic signage.
