    Holy character!!
  2. I'm not sure the processes are the same in both places, but developers in San Diego had a ballot initiative to build a soccer stadium. All the polls suggested it would pass. Then City Council got some heat from competing developers for supporting the measure, so they simply voted not to provide money to fund the referendum. Take that, democracy! Could Cleveland City Council have done the same?
  3. Don't sweat it. Gilbert is a smart guy and there's a Plan B, C and D for renovation. The CAVS will leave when Cleveland transitions into a west coast liberal enclave. ie Never.
  4. For what? For being an Akron Zip, obviously! Or for being injured lol.

Agree it would be weird, and I'd miss the views from up there. But I'd trade that bridge in a heartbeat for what used to be there.

I really like the ambiance that the steel girders create. It's very "Cleveland." However it would be irresponsible not to study tearing down the bridge. Replacing it with a drawbridge over the river would be interesting. I'd gladly take the convenience of an urban street grid replacement over the luxury of going 50mph over the bridge.
  7. In Stepen King's book Needful Things, Satan is posing as the owner of a cursed curiosity shop. He tells everyone he's originally from Akron, Ohio. I believe that's actually true.
  8. At this point, I'm thinking 515 was placed over an Indian burial ground.
  9. ^ You have to love all of that retail signage. To me it evokes a real feeling of vibrance. Thanks for posting!!

The Irving chaos and James’ reported wish to bolt Cleveland after the season turned Anthony’s main focus toward Houston. But the Cavaliers came out of the Irving fiasco looking more formidable than ever by adding explosive point guard Isaiah Thomas, defensive forward Jae Crowder and the rights to the Nets’ potential lottery pick next June. Sometimes you have to consult out of town media to get a silver lining perspective.
  11. The LA tv news media was gushing over the "capacity crowd" for the Chargers vs. Seahawks game last weekend. Whether they have been instructed to mislead their viewers or if they're simply ignorant is up for debate. Because the fact is there were an estimated 6,000 empty seats. Which is a pretty remarkable feat considering it's a stadium that taps out at a mere 27,000. That the Seahawks fans were much louder than those die hard LA Charger fans only adds insult to injury. Clueless owner Dean Spanos was said to be crestfallen, glum, dejected, downcast, etc. etc. about the attendance. Well you better get used to it. Welcome to LA, Dean!!!
  12. There needs to be another 3 committee hearings, go back to council, and then be reviewed in another 3 committee hearings. And then Jeff Johnson has to hold a rally in opposition lol. But seriously, we don't know where this parklet is?
  13. Agree. The classic designs are just that, so long as good materials are used, of course. Plus the Cleveland developers seem to always plant suburban style "shrubbery" around their places, along with poorly placed electrical panels and such. I want my urban dwellings to look urban, dammit! [end old man rant :-)]
  14. Barrio's co-founder sold his share in Barrio - then founded the similar Condado in Columbus as a potential national testing ground. They don't appear to be/have been sister concepts from the same company: http://www.thelantern.com/2014/11/condado-tacos-giving-columbus-a-test-2/ Okay I came here to say exactly this... Barrio and Condado are not affiliated or owned by the same people. So yeah, Condado is owned/founded by one of the old Barrio cofounders after what I've been told was a difference in opinions on expansion and direction of the concept. I think Condado has effectively killed any chance of Barrio surviving in the Columbus market, actually they may hurt any major Barrio expansions outside of the Cleveland metro. Currently Condado is killing in CBUS, but its also expanding regionally. They have 3 Columbus locations, just opened in downtown Pittsburgh, and have downtown locations announced in Cincinnati, Nashville, and Indianapolis. Barrio is delicious, but so is Condado... they are the same concept and food with virtually no difference to the average consumer. Condado just seems more aggressive with it's goals. Barrio is opening a new microbrewery and pizza spot in Lakewood. So maybe the owners are looking to expand via a more diversified approach?
  15. Nothing concrete. But from my brief experience with the legal side of property, when someone wants a building condemned, they start leaving a paper trail. Riverview has had countless complaints re: elevator functionality as well as fixtures within the building within the last two years. Their faulty actually elevators actually led to someone dying a few years ago.

Cue the obligatory "It's too crowded, nobody goes there...." adage. But i believe you're exactly right. The Park isn't designed to be as popular as it is. It's a good problem, for sure. But one that should by all means be solved. The watered-down Shoreway Blvd. is a big time aesthetic improvement. It's interesting to think about what further proposals (rail, bus, on street parking changes, etc) can lead to better access along the way.

  18. I hated skywalks, until I saw that pic.

Oh man. I wonder if Flacco is next. From the first time I saw Cam Erving on the field I thought wow, that guy is really uncoordinated.

I'd guess either Couch.....or Ben Roethisberger (ouch!).
  21. Darn. Well, the writing's been on the wall for that place and I'm surprised it didn't move/close sooner.

Did he plagiarize George W. Bush?

So true. I think the Tea Party types, just like the politicians and party they tend to favor are most inconsistent over their criticism of public subsidies. I remember the policies put forth in CA requiring x amount of electric car sales did seem to be wholly arbitrary. I'm not entirely against subsidies but it's always strange to see government steering, or attempting to steer such a large component of the market.

If this writer wanted to be fair, she would have rightly included political efforts against Tesla sales as a much better example of "crony capitalism." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_US_dealership_disputes Anyhow The Big Three automakers and defense contractors get the bulk of subsidies. At some point people have apparently come to accept that the role of government is to shell out all kinds of money to large companies.
