Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
Agreed, I often say it's a shame that people switch to Dem before running locally. Don't sleep on Madelone though. He isn't exactly a "leftist" and seems to have a lot of support from the 18-30 crowd. He'd have to outpoll both Reed and Johnson, but the fact that they are both running makes that more possible. So Madalone isn't running as a Republican?

Cleveland: STUDY SPOT NEEDED
Loop Records in Tremont. Phoenix and Root are great, but those places get crowded and I often feel like I'm taking up valuable space. Upstairs at Loop almost always has open space is more conducive to camping out. I have a harder time concentrating at Gypsy, for some reason.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I had a bad feeling about the game last night. Plus where I live in San Diego is inundated with bandwagon Warriors "fans." They are insufferable. Solution? Took the gf to a wine bar (No tv) and ditched my cell phone to avoid my dad's angry sports texts. Mmmm.....flat bread pizza and several blonde ales, it was a good night. I came home wondering who won and was promptly heckled by my elderly neighbor. Not a good sign, as she's originally from the Bay area. She often yells at her tv during sporting events and her dog is an internet celebrity. She invited my gf and I over to watch "the sweep" on her big screen, but I believe that the invite was insincere. Bright note. My other neighbor, guy who just moved in yesterday, comes slinking home and to my amazement, he's rocking a Cavs jersey and hat. Turns out he's from Solon haha. CAVS IN FIVE.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Radio is in a sad state. It's a demographic problem, at its heart. Those older listeners aren't actively seeking out new music or shuffling through thousands of songs on their latest mobile devices. They have their favorites, they are not very tech savvy, so they listen to Hotel California for the millionth time. The stations do nothing to change this, they are simply lazy, reactive and trying to hold onto their current listeners.

Just a reminder of what we initially saw, and why I hate falling in love with initial renders lol: [edit: oops sorry X, I'm late getting the memo]

The Culture Of The Smug White Liberal
She makes some good points. The politicians in Philadelphia and elsewhere have a successful formula, not to fix problems, but to ensure they are re-elected. A lot of liberal causes demand style over substance. Police unfairly target poor minorities. Effecting positive change is a constant struggle. I am not naive, and I don't want to discount the information we can learn from race classifications data we use. But the main problem I have with the author is her insistence upon identifying people based on their skin-color. While I obviously don't know her personally, the tone of the article reminds me of many people I know, left or right, who are all to eager to place someone into a broad category instead of recognizing that persons unique worth as an individual. It's unfair to the individual, and worse, it perpetuates an ever evolving "us vs. them" blame-shift mentality. The divisiveness may be good for raising blood temperatures, but it never leads to consensus-building required to actually solve our most serious issues.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^ I don't think anyone envisions Pace's school to have a large footprint. Rather it's one of many ingredients to help get the final recipe there. On the other hand the former Max Hayes property is expansive within the hottest residential area of the city.

Exactly. A total leadership void. It's confounding that our very very poor school district is not poised to make the fiscally responsible decision to sell.

Taipei, Taiwan
I'm conflicted. Some of that street retail signage is hideous. But at the same time, I wish they were still prevalent in US cities. I've seen all the skyline shots. Nice to see these posts and more of the inner city.

surfohio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSpeaking of underutilized space, has there ever been discussion of adding retail on High St? Seems like they could have made a fortune on lease space along that stretch.

If Cranley's opponents are less than scrupulous and want to win at all costs, they can now destroy his career with "TreDay" commercials, Willie Horton style.

Rust Belt Revival Ideas, Predictions & Articles
Good point. Are there any books or in-depth articles about how the Short North came about? There are a number of factors here. Actually, it's probably far fetched to see any other stretch in the state of Ohio duplicate the same level of success... -proximity to downtown -proximity to ridiculously large state university -proximity to gentrified Victorian Village -High St. is the major thoroughfare -existing infrastructure -cheap space available for eclectic pioneers -walkable streets

AFC Cleveland Royals Discussion
I realized this is getting off-topic, but since it started here.... I spoke with the Crew's brand ambassador today and they are working on getting a shuttle aka "party bus" from Cleveland to Columbus in the near future. I appointed myself as unpaid consultant. I'll make sure that only the finest Cleveland and Columbus breweries are involved in these excursions.
