Triv at least deserves credit for longevity. He's like 200 in radio years old. If I had to guess, I'd posit that most of WTAM's listeners can't vote in Cleveland. Do you think his show can sway the election? No. But it will give you a first hand view of events that the pro-Jackson PeeDee won't. The elephant in this thread is the Cleveland voters. I am not sure anyone has a clear idea of who is going to get elected. Status quo, or being a known commodity has to have some value for Jackson, I suppose. But is anyone here going to be truly surprised to see Mayor Z. Reed getting sworn in?

For whatever reason neither the Crew, nor the Blue Jackets, have really caught on in Northeast Ohio. I'm actually friends with the Crew's brand ambassador, I should talk to him about this. It would be awesome to have CBJ and Crew play games in Cleveland sometimes. Anyhow, we should really have a larger soccer presence than what's going on currently.

^ True that. I love soccer, but the idea of driving to the burbs to watch pro soccer at a high school depresses me. It's unfortunate that our MLS push ended when Bert Wolstein died. If only he had partnered with CSU instead of his recession-sensitive outlet mall stadium idea we would have a very interesting Cleveland vs. Columbus rivalry going on. It might even spur Northeast Ohio to branch off into its own state or something.
  6. My first thought is how strange and off putting it is to be walking to Musica or Crave on Market St. and have cars zipping past you going +50 mph.

I thought that Columbus Mapfre stadium would fit in there from cutting and pasting in google maps, but I admittedly suck at that sort of thing.

I'd pitch a shared venue with Cleveland State. And I'd integrate it with existing infrastructure, right in between the Tower Press Building on Superior and the Public Safety Building on Payne. It would make the most unique stadium in American sports.

When GSW cut the lead to 14 I knew they would win. San Antonio went into a panic mode just long enough to let that lead disappear. Even with Kawhi healthy, Golden State is the better team. That being said, the Warriors are so easy to hate. Their body language is awful. They look like a bunch of spoiled children.

^ The maintenance on a wind turbine can't ever approach the extent of work required for a coal-fired power plant. Those plants need constant maintenance. Their massive boilers are under constant corrosion.

Good lord, has anyone seen this:

I suppose REM did conjure up a power pop phase (what's the frequency Kenneth) that was a sonic departure. Their swan songs were interesting. "At my most beautiful" was pure 60s psych pop but by then they were already losing commercial status.

It's funny, last night I was thinking about the great 80's alt bands, the Cure in particular. I loved that era. Yet one thing they all seem to have in common was a lack of progression. Contrast to seminal 60's bands like the Who, Beach Boys, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. who experienced major musical evolution and radical departure from their roots. I would add The Cure and Morrissey firmly in the camp of artists that evolved very little - if at all. Even REM with their longstanding success, I feel their evolution was more in production values than anything else.
  14. I actually think RTA should make all of their trains free for a week or a month. Get people on there who have never tried it, the same way a restauranteur gives away free samples. In the long run it would be beneficial.
  15. ^ ^^ Great points. I think the Mall along with PS give downtown two complimentary, unique options for these kinds of events. [edited for overuse of the word "great"]

Whew, I was afraid it was a real host at the station. I don't remember a homophobic rant specifically, but in the past she did have some kind of mental breakdown on the air, throwing things around the studio and screaming at everyone. Sabrina was always unprofessional and, in hindsight, may have been brought back simply for the inevitable shock value.
  17. The windows can’t be seen if you’re standing in Public Square, says Baniszewski, in keeping with the historic look of the building and historic tax credit requirements, but “it’s a really cool picture postcard view of the Terminal Tower,” he says. This is ridiculous. Do the tax credits actually require that an enormous blank, windowless wall face Public Square? That can't be right.
  18. Fair point. I just wanna add that fandom does quite a bit to unite folks, especially those who no longer reside in the area. It's really cool to be in Minneapolis, San Diego, LA, Florida or wherever and still see so much support for CLE teams. Browns Backers, for example, I believe is the most popular clubs in the world. The city has such a storied sports history!
  19. There was a comment from the councilman that this site potentially has someone lined up in some capacity, but it wasn't far enough along for more details. I'm fearful it'll just be suburban business park style as shown on the Madison corridor development plan. I heard something about that, but I was confused as to whether it was this site (Midland) or the cleaned/cleared site next to I-77. From what I'm hearing, it may be both. The industrial/warehousing sector is bursting at the seams right now. Hmm, any chance on earth that Cudell will push for an urban street-friendly portion along Madison?

I just heard an interview with media sensation/terrible shoe designer LaVar Ball. The dude is hilarious. And sharp. He just totally skewered Doug Gottlieb who attempted a hardball interview.
  21. It would encourage development if it was designed the right way. Cat cafe's are all the rage. A retail component fronting Detroit Ave. could invite the public to better interact with the animals who are up for adoption.
  22. To steal a quote from reddit, the intended audience for the show appears to be really edgy 12 year olds.
  23. Bill is getting quite the backlash over this. It seems he has done the impossible by uniting liberals and conservatives in agreement; that the show is awful.

Welcome! I hope you find what you're looking for. I like Lakewood. A lot. It's diverse, safe, mostly walkable and just has a great community feel. It's supportive of the arts, and also home to a great array of non-chain bars and restaurants. Finally it's conveniently located to downtown, the lake and other cool hoods like Gordon Square and Ohio City. Just off the top of my head I recommend checking out Mahall's 20 Lanes (bar and bowling alley with touring bands), Lakewood Park, Rocky River Reservation Park, 5 Oclock Lounge (cool divey bar), Taco Tontos for margaritas, Beck Center for the Arts, Pier W (best seafood if that's your thing) and The Root Cafe (coffee/vegitarian-friendly cafe). Lakewood named one of 10 most exciting suburbs in America http://www.cleveland.com/lakewood/index.ssf/2014/02/lakewood_named_one_of_10_most.html Best of luck!
  25. Heck yeah, Phoenix Coffee coming back to the WD.
