Transit adjacent doesn't mean transit oriented. The new nursing home by W 117 is merely adjacent, since nursing home residents have limited economic impact and many are unable to leave the premises at all. And of course it's a single-use building. It doesn't interact with the rest of the city any more than any other nursing home does. I'm confused, what nursing home?

To be fair, W117 has had recent TOD. http://www.apfuhousing.com/ But even still the amount of investment in the area is underwhelming.
  3. This is not a new idea. In the Nixon years the Feds came up with the GOWN (Get Out of Washington Now) Program. For various reasons it went nowhere. A better approach for Cleveland would be for area congressmen (and local civic sponsors) to pick something small and new to go after. An example might be the NIH's radiographic data repository. It's not wildly glamorous; it's physical location isn't especially important; and it's a small program. It will, however, be "huge and beautiful", as somebody in DC might say, in the future. Local sponsors would need to offer incentives, but they wouldn't need to be too great. Plus the city with Picker, Hitachi, ViewRay, etc., has "radiology credentials" as good as anybody's. This approach is how Baltimore ended up with 20,000+ Social Security jobs. Something environmental-related would also be nice. A research facility that can partner up with local universities. We have a fairly important body of water to our immediate north, with lots of room for development.
  4. Only if we're satisfied with the outcome will a ship have sailed. Many times, a political compromise strengthens the cause for getting more of what the original plan was. The important thing is to keep pushing for the preferred goal. The future hasn't ended. What has been built thus far is a step in the right direction. KJP looking at the bright side on a Sat am! Indeed it may take a while, but soon people should realize that 35mph is actually a benefit in this instance, and not the draconian inconvenience that it's made out to be.
  5. Yeah...it's really too bad. The improved shoreway is shaping up nicely. But that original plan would have been transformative.
  6. Not sure, but hoping so. It would help with overall access to Edgewater Park. Detroit Ave could also use a traffic light at W 73. I thought that I saw a Matt Zone FB post saying that would happen in mid-2018. Can't find it though ... so don't hold me to it 100% Good to know. If we are serious about improving all access to the lakefront we've got to keep making it easier to get to (and from) Edgewater Park...we're not there yet. The trick is to find a way to do it that minimizes the impact on the residents. I'm sure they don't want the neighborhood to be clogged with beach traffic. There's got to be a happy medium. Any ideas Dergon?
  7. Great looking town!
  8. Right. The opposition reminds me of an insular, small town mindset. Cites change. Constantly. If you want to live in a place where things never change well there's plenty of other places to live.
  9. While I sympathize with some of the older residents, I think a lot of their energy is just misguided.

  11. This is a neat re-purposed building, deserves a pic!

^ Who doesn't love that building??
  13. APR. 20, 2017 AT 5:09 PM Baseball’s New Leadoff Hitters Don’t Need To Be Speed Demons By Neil Paine ....... To find out who is perfect, I ran a regression between a leadoff hitter’s playing attributes2 and his team’s runs scored per game (adjusted for the stadium they were scored in). According to that, the ideal current leadoff man3 is Cleveland’s Carlos Santana. Leading off for the Tribe while splitting time between designated hitter, first base and right field, the 210-pound Santana doesn’t look like the traditional platonic ideal of a leadoff man, and he stole just 5 bases last season. But his peculiar blend of abilities — great contact skills, tons of walks and the power to drill 34 home runs — is associated with about 30 extra runs (or 3 more wins) over a 162-game season, tops of any leadoff man in baseball. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/baseballs-new-leadoff-hitters-dont-need-to-be-speed-demons/?addata=espn:frontpage
  14. Brief memory gain! Marshall McClarens.....there was a child prostitution ring there. These were dark times in the O.C.
  15. Please tell me you didn't hang out at that Irish bar in the hood!!!
  16. I think it has more to do with prevailing urban policies at the time which we demolished neighborhoods in order to "save them." More progressive cities have moved on from those policies and rebuild, restore and create more dense, walkable, inclusive and open built environments with lots of ways to publicly access those buildings from the sidewalks. Believe me I don't want to derail the topic, it's just interesting terminology at play. I'm sure the progressive approach at that time was to demolish, while the conservative approach would have kept the neighborhood the same; more intact, walkabale, traditional.
  17. We don't know. But we do know that there's people lobbying for SKylift. Believe me, everyone on this forum wishes RTA would be proactive with rail and funding, but they are not.
  18. Again, where is the momentum for rail expansion? RTA leadership doesn't have the energy for this for whatever reason.
  19. You can't use a simple math equation though when it comes to RTA. If leadership is uninterested or unable to lobby for rail expansion then it's a moot point.
  20. This is great. When filmmakers need stock footage of "EVIL CORP" they have a new place to shoot. Seriously. This looks like an armed facility where they are going to regenerate body parts.
  21. TGIF is just a poor imitation of Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag. http://i.imgur.com/uY9Lt.png

CAVS still not running on all cylinders, mental lapses, inconsistent....but man are these pretty.
  23. ^ Interesting. The TGIF brand is it currently stands is about as uncool as you can get.
  24. They may have. That sucks. Last time I was in town, Heinen's downtown only had lame corporate flour tortillas made in Texas. That place had the good corn ones made in Pilsen, Chicago. And they had soda pop from every country in Latin America. The guys at Mr Alberts told us about Mi Puebla, and we biked over there. It saved the day for my Mexican friend that balked at the texas tortillas. This ridiculous long list of ingredients on some tortillas is kind of worrisome. Anyhow, all isn't lost. https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-plaza-supermarket-cleveland
  25. They were closed last time I checked...did they reopen? RIP Mi Pueblo.
