Frankly, I wouldn’t see the benefit if it cost 25% of what it eventually would. Look at it on a map, that’s the spot where the waves hit so hard even during moderate storms that they get all over the freeway. To benefit from this new shoreline, you’d need a new breakwall. For starters. Plus, unless you’re going to run this new freeway straight through Gordon Park, you don’t really make the highway any smoother. I drive by this four or five times a week. Best use would be an apartment/office complex with a parking deck on the lower floors and a sound wall in front of that. Once you get up to the third or fourth floor it is basically lake view property just the same as if you built right on it. Tunnel under the Shoreway in that area and it’s still connected. An apartment/office complex the way you describe doesn't address one of our most glaring needs -- to be in better actual, physical connection with the waterfront. Tunnels and bridges technically do funnel people, but seem a much inferior option to the admittedly optimistic "B" proposals in the article.

Might not want to eat the first batch. I like the idea of moving the freeway here, cost-benefit seems problematic though. Everyone loves moving the freeway, except ODOT maybe. Agree with all your points, but I think the best way to do this is to put the Health Tech along the Opportunity Corridor, allowing the area around Euclid Ave to be developed into walkable mixed use. Euclid already connects two desirable areas so why not continue that theme? Health tech installations aren't particularly walkable. While neighborhoods containing industry can be perfectly viable, there's no reason to make our Main Street into one. That's not what cities usually do, instead they usually make Main Street their premier neighborhood. Kinda like Cleveland did in the first place... we don't need to reinvent it! Bingo. I actually had this same idea last year, and even posted a rank amateur photoshop of what it would look like. It's really a good idea that would help out existing businesses and facilitate more development. The boardwalk extension would help compel people to venture. Canal Basin would link it to the Towpath, it's got to happen. The current incarnation of the boardwalk looks nice, but since it doesn't go anywhere it doesn't function properly as a connector.

People don't simply sacrifice pay for warm weather. Some do! At 9:01pm these folks around Perk don't have many options available to congregate outdoors. At least not legally. Its a main reason why personally wouldn't choose to live or raise a family there. Cleveland has made great strides, but we have to admit there is much room for improvement. Restricting park hours there for people who aren't causing any problems just seems counterproductive and unnecessary.

I have seen lots of kids in and around Perk Park. They are usually playing soccer. It's really cool to see a sense of community developing.
