Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
The article hints that the new owner is looking at attracting out-of-town tenants. Given the buyers NYC connection, I have to think it's fair to assume they have some prospects lined up. An acquaintance of mine in NYC says his firm is desperate to move their "back office" work out of that city because of real estate costs and the difficulty of hiring lower-level employees. Why wouldn't they relocate someplace less costly but nearby, like New Haven, CT or Trenton, NJ or Poughkeepsie, NY? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it. But of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, why would they walk into ours? One unqualified guess...cities like Cleveland, Detroit and Pittsburgh seem so much more "on the radar" than places like Trenton (third tier city), Harrisburg (isolated), New Haven (nondescript) etc.

I love how the Nationwide building looks like a vertical slice of the Death Star.

Governor John Kasich
The 3C proposal should have played this up more. As I recall, there was an unwillingness to even consider that service, let alone promote it as a reason to support the plan. I still blame 3C for giving us Kasich in the first place. Tossed him a whiffleball and he whacked it. I don't know, once the lie about the 3C being a "35 MPH train" got out there, it's was hard to overcome that. Once people believe that a lie is a fact, it's nearly impossible to convince them otherwise. I blame Strickland for much of that. The guy was so weak.

Devils fans "traingate" up to Newark for hockey games. It's pretty awesome, actually. I imagine with 3-C it would have been the same thing with Cleveland area OSU fans.

I kid you not...every time my dad switched over to the game, Vancouver scored right after. After the third goal I'm like Dammit Dad, it's you!!!!

Shallow retail spaces would conceal a residential garage at street level. What a beautiful sentence. Anyhow, while the scale down is unfortunate, it's at least looking like the place will at least interact well at ground level.

Columbus: Restaurant News & Info
wow i had no idea these were still around and so popular. there is already a jersey mike's in westerville on sunbury rd at dublin-granville rd for like over 20yrs. i checked and i see its still there. it was the first one and i was so excited when it opened. it was pretty good at first, but went downhill quickly. i don't mean bad, but just eh. Making a good sub is like an art. If I tell the Jersey Mike's employees exactly how to do it correctly, I can get something resembling an authentic sub. Otherwise, there's just not the same level of pride at the franchised versions of Jersey Mikes. They just do the bare minimum, which is all it takes to eclipse Subway.

Hopefully quietly going away.... It's interesting that they list proximity to hotels and Cleveland clinic, but not the lake. I fear that the mindset of this company just isn't in tune with waterfront development.

Is Appelbaum even aware of the Transportation Center? Heck, it would be so refreshing to read an article that inspires confidence in these public officials.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Guys it's looking like Stella aka K Love is getting his groove back. So good to see the chemistry still coming along. Scary to think the potential of the Cavs big three has yet to be realized. Props to Tyrone Lue. I honestly can't envision Coach Blatt having the same level of success.

Okay, when you compare it to the other proposals, yes, the new version does look cheap. Or to put a more positive spin on it, the new version is thrifty. A penny saved is a penny earned, etc.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
This is one of the worst things I've seen in a long long time. Like a bad after school special. Leannais eventually picked the gun up, lowered it to his side pulled the trigger, unaware a bullet was in the chamber.... We love your ideas, Mr. Developer. But we on the review board are gonna need you to take out all those windows and have an enormous concrete wall instead. Something that will crumble apart, soon. And ya better have a huge, crappy 1970's mural on it.

Bleh. I don't remember the renders being overly ambitious, so I don't feel let down by this. At least there's no blank walls, I guess. I'm more interested to see how they're finally going to "connect" the existing attractions from a pedestrian standpoint.

A good leader doesn't invade Iraq because of 9/11. It's that simple. You don't need a history book to know how utterly asinine that was. And you don't send our troops into battle unless you can take care of them afterwards. Did George W. Bush, the great leader, do a damn thing to fix the VA hospitals?
