Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Here: http://www.emlii.com/images/article/2014/07/53bd2bab67f26.jpeg If I just saw this image without any context I wouldn't even know what the hell it was about. It's racist by virtue that its purpose is to be racist. Yet even as a person who is half German descent this drawing doesn't offend me. What offends me is the propaganda behind it. What is the purpose of Chief Wahoo?

No one wants to take a stab at this? The definition of racist is a belief that one race is superior to another. The depiction of Chief Wahoo doesn't rise to that level imho. The mere mention of the "N-word" doesn't either. In either case I think you have to look at the context. What's the purpose there? People will draw their own conclusions. If the purpose of the logo was to somehow suggest all Native Americans actually looked like that, well, it would be racist. Chief Wahoo does not do that; he is a quirky cartoon character, like the Baltimore Oriole.

I think you've got a good argument here. I understand it. I completely understand why some or many people find it offensive. Still I'm not personally offended by the logo. It's probably because I firmly do not believe the message behind it is racist; the intent isn't there. Now do I think it's time to change it? Yes, I think so.

I think these look as good, if not better, than anything going up in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before. But I've seen Native Americans in New Mexico, Arizona and California sporting the Wahoo hats. Just found that interesting. I'm wearing the logo right now. But I'd like to see more "block C" from the team next year. I'm just tired of the debate.- World Series 2016
^ I'm actually considering the same ticket package, and I'm not even in Ohio most of the time! I really enjoyed watching the team play this season because the good chemistry was so apparent. And each night anyone on the roster could step up and make an amazing play. So under the radar! I'd take in the games at the bar and nobody seemed to take much interest. Then this happened. I swear that was a defining moment in the season. Anyhow next year I'm banking on another memorable season (with great attendance!) because these players and this manager are something special.- Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
It's dumb enough that I'm half wondering if the note was left by someone trying to get their condo haha.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
What are they saying? Emmitt Golden was hanging around the clubhouse and when he asked some of the brass if Brantley would be ready for the season he got some very sad looking shrugs in response. Again, nothing official.- Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
It serves them right for raising two kids in that hellhole.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
This isn't anything official but just listening to WKNR and it sounds like Brantley's shoulder is seriously messed up.- World Series 2016
I'm not ready to be in a good mood. The Cavs championship, which I loved experiencing, isn't glossing over this loss tonight...the same way I'm sure Jordan's awesome Bulls years never consoled Cubs fans. Let the depression eating begin.- World Series 2016
Well, it's the fifth inning and we know two things: 1. We are losing 4-1. 2. We should have started Trevor Bauer.- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Okay, I'm thinking which restaurant is this? Is this the place in Gordon Square?- World Series 2016
^ Interesting notes on Kluber! If it's a close one today I'm very interested in seeing how Tito employs the bullpen.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I agree. I don't mind when world series games are a bit longer. To me it's exciting.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
Absolutely. I wanted them to draft Jatavis Brown, but the Browns never listen to me.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I actually like Bauer. But whether you like him or not, he's not the reason we lost last night. We lost because we only managed to score two runs. That's just not going to cut it.- Seattle - 2015 - Part 2: South Lake Union & Lower Queen Anne
Nice! What a vibrant looking place. And a sea plane!- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I'd say the odds are against a Tribe win tonight. I hope Bauer can pitch, but I'm afraid that tonight's game is just gong to exhaust the bullpen. Of course I hope I'm 100% wrong!!! But I'm an expert sportsologist who is generally right about such things. Anyhow I'm taking a nap now so I can stay up and watch at a local bar. Walking distance....no driving for me tonight! GO TRIBE!- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
^ This is going to have to be a top-down change in mindset. I would never call Cleveland a progressive city. You can barely find a recycling bin downtown. And unfortunately, the soil and water require much more than protection and conservation; they require costly remediation.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
The Browns suck. Total team loss today that required a trifecta of bad coaching, horrendously bad tackling and timely awfulness from QB Jake McCown. The long march to the draft continues.- Airbnb
Actually it was my family that was likely causing a ruckus with crazy, all-day, outdoor parties and the like :-) Again, if you live in a normal place, things like excess noise or late night stupidity can be properly addressed by nuisance laws that are already on the books. I do feel bad that some communities may be losing their identity to absentee landlords. But a blanket ban on Airbnb (which is being talked about in San Diego) is just a massive overreach.- Favorite Music At The Moment?
^ Hmm, my first guess would be that the music companies were maybe more invested in the more manufactured acts. Like, whereas it's plausible that Mellancamp, RATT and Seger were self-contained entities, artist like Whitney Houston and Mariah were far more reliant on "the industry" for their production and songwriting. I suppose the Nashville (yuck!) example you brought up earlier would be a similar situation.- Airbnb
Are people in public housing renting out their units and staying with a neighbor in their building, then splitting the difference? Yes. Virtually all Airbnb customers are clamoring to stay at project housing lol. As a non-sarcastic aside, my mom grew up in the Italian section of Wooster, Ohio. They, like everyone else in the hood had spare rooms that they would often rent out to borders who were "fresh off the boat" from Italy. I'd like to think they accomplished this without having to fear breaking some ordinance, or hire tax consultants, attorneys, or lobbyists to bribe politicians etc etc. - Columbus: Near East Side / King-Lincoln / Olde Towne East Developments and News
