Favorite Music At The Moment?
I too enjoy hearing the Top 40 replays. I'd argue however that pound for pound it was the 70's pop that was even more forgettable. For example: The Partridge Family? Captain and Tenielle?? Man I loved those shows! But the music was just so hopelessly bland. In contrast, the 80's were really dynamic and diverse in virtually every genre.

Right! I have sent those from-the-lake shots to friends and family out of town to play "Guess what city this is?" http://static.thousandwonders.net/Cleveland.original.11492.jpg

^ Also, Airbnb helps homeowners with otherwise limited incomes to remain in the place they live. I sympathize with many of the points jmeck is bringing up, but I have yet to hear of any solution which isn't ridiculously overbroad or overly intrusive.

I love that the link is a typo. Are the days of grainy, near worthless security footage finally coming to an end?

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Agree his early tours were almost like a circus curiosity. His current band is top notch, but it's hard to reconcile Brian's current "okay" singing voice with the tremendous, almost otherworldly singing voice of his younger self. That being said, I did see the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour and those guys can still perform some great hamonies live. I much prefer the Beach Boys version of Smile. The vocal blend of the original members is just too incredible. Like you I prefer segments of it more than the "complete" version of it. The background vocals to Barnyard and Heroes and Villians...wow, there's nothing else like it! Here I'd like to give a rare shout out to Hipsters everywhere. For while they suck for so many reasons, I do fully appreciate how they have helped elevate Brian Wilson and his music to the highest circles of neverending coolness. p.s. I'm glad you brought up Busy Doing Nothing. That is probably the strangest track I've ever heard. The very first time I heard it I thought "This is an insane person, but in a good way." p.s.s. Here's one of my favorite videos, a rare (optimistic) glimpse of the band optimistically trying to survive without their leader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVfCHQbdqfQ

The big reason AirBNB is so cheap is precisely because of the risk, IMO. You get what you pay for. With a hotel room, you get peace of mind - you know exactly what you're getting: you're guaranteed a clean room, you don't have to meet someone's schedule to get your keys, your belongings are safe, no one is going to snoop around your room, someone will clean your room daily, you won't wake up with a creep standing over your bed and have no recourse, no one will live broadcast your stay on the deep web, etc. I will bet you anything that all of those things happen at motels everywhere.

Cleveland: Retail News
I'm not sure what non-profits Unique partnered in Ohio (I know in Illinois, they partnered with Vietnam Veterans of America), but for non-profits like Easter Seals, they will sell the items (clothes by the pound) to companies like Value World and Savers (both of those are for profit companies)... How much does Value World and Savers give them, I don't know... The yellow bins around the city, I can't give to those, those bins are always overflowing... Goodwill's 990 is here - http://www.goodwillgoodskills.org/media/3377/2014_990.pdf Planet Aid has gotten some recently bad publicity. http://www.nbcwashington.com/investigations/Behind-the-Bins-Former-Planet-Aid-Employees-Describe-Cult-like-Experience-380725641.html

Airbnb
Completely ignoring that the proliferation of short-term rental apartments and houses for the well-to-do is pushing up rental prices for city residents and pushing out long-term residents. New Orleans is experiencing a gutting of some of its historic neighborhoods thanks to Airbnb. Instead of real neighbors, people now have a rotating cast of fraternities and bachelorette parties. SF is seeing rents pushed ever-upward as people turn entire 20+ unit apartment buildings into airbnb rentals. NYC is contemplating the above-mentioned measure for the same reason. This sucks, but trying to stop it is just going to have a ton of unintended consequences. A blanket ban on Airbnb is overdoing it. Nobody in my age group was able to afford to live in the beach town I grew up in. We all had to settle somewhere else. Life goes on.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Yep they do! http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2016/03/dan_gilbert_buys_the_avenue_sh.html Anyhow to get somewhat on topic, there is a hair salon coming to this Avenue District. It will be interesting to see how it will do considering the current residential is maybe only a third the amount that was originally planned.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
I went by the Watermark building and a dumpster is sitting outside its main entrance on ORR, but inside looks completely fixed up and the lights (at night) were on... I Googled "Cleveland" "and Old River Brewing" but didn't get much more than you did. I'm still pleased that something new will be going into this beautiful old Victorian space... That said, I sure wish Samsel would relocate and free up their huge hardware store/warehouse across the street. While I appreciate Samsel (and have actually been a customer of theirs in the past), I just don't think an industrial hardware store is a good fit for this radically changing upscale apt/restaurant district. Their building could be retrofitted into a really substantial and nice apartment complex, with balconies too. Just like with E. 4th, the synergy that could be generated with this tight, old street/walking district could be electric... Just like with FEB, major rents could be had... With Samsel, from what I understand they have equipment that is so heavy it would be cost prohibitive to move. I always thought they could become the ultimate neighborhood hardware store if there was enough demand, ie new residents.

Back in 97 I got shut out, so I watched most of game 4 at a bar near the Jake. Then I just snuck into the ballpark during the later innings. It was a simpler time.

Lakewood: Development and News

I'll second Peninsula. Lakewood does indeed have lots of bars. What type of bars do you typically prefer? Crazy? Classy? Low key? Divey? Really divey? Sportsball?? It's all in Lakewood!- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Over the years I've spent probably more time on the Yankees and BoSox message boards. Tonight it's the Yanks fans who are not disappointing me... Kudos to the blosux who kicked out the major players in this ALCS - Franconca, Miller, Napoli, and Crisp! Thanks, losers. You're the gift that keeps on giving!!! Haven't won a World Series since 1948.......I'd say it's time!! Another congratulations to Miller...Wow! I will be pulling for the Tribe in the World Series. Thank goodness Toronto is out. What? No runs off Merritt? But Blotista said he would be shaking in his boots! ANDREW BLEEPIN' MILLER! Indians fever!!!! Oh heck...one more :-) Thank you Cleveland Indians! You singlehandedly eliminated the Blosox and Blojays, the two most loudmouth, whiny and arrogant teams in baseball. For that, we as Yankee fans are eternally grateful. Here's hoping you finally win a world series.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
IMO, we're playing with house money. One championship in the bag, up 3-1 in the ALCS. There's no difference to me between winning one more game or four more. Five more wins makes this an unbelievably magical year for Cleveland sports, but it's been a great run even if we lose the next 3 (which I doubt will happen). Yeah, I agree. That being said...I'm watching the next game at a different bar and inviting different friends. Tonight was all cursed. - Visiting Cle
