Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Nice article. I think the whole outlet mall needs to go away from that location. Horrible idea. Believe me I hate that render but I think outlets could be good, but only if the design fits the location. Monolithic structures are anathema to coastal access. Now I've been lots of coastal places where retail adds a great deal of vibrancy. A retail/family entertainment district like Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing (both in Myrtle Beach) would be awesome for Cleveland.

^ Glad you mentioned Coastal. I was very put off by the simplified, down scaled renders, as many others were. But the design is terrific; it welcomes the surroundings exceedingly well and provides for a great, casual, waterside atmosphere.

Indeed it looks good. If you can retrofit that space, I'd guess there are quite a few parking garages around town that deserve equal consideration.

Most interesting comment in the article: "We have to plan for a city that is probably far less dense," Piiparinen said.

Great news. Hoping for either of this design for the Wendy Park bridge:

We really don't have that much readily available Lakefront property though. Sure waterfront retail is great! But this developer doesn't specialize in waterfront building, as far as I know.

Your tax dollars at work! A few weeks after 9/11 I was waiting to board the Miller Boat Line ferry to go to Put-in-Bay. A Homeland Security officer pulled me aside and rifled through my backpack. I remember asking "What is it you think that I have in here?" He said he was checking for weapons, and we were on high alert because of the terrorists. I'm so sure that Osama and Al Qaeda had The Perry Monument or the World's Longest Bar as their next target for destruction.

I don't know why the Park has all kinds of cool, historical markers but nothing for Richfield Coliseum.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
This is not prime lakefront land. This is on a parking lot hidden behind other buildings. This land was being marketed for office use. It's not as if this is being built on the water. And right next to an airport. Yes it's an airport but it's a rather serene one. Like it or not there is not much land available along the Lakefront. At least not immediately available. Because of that the design should reflect that the place is a special one.

Cleveland: Marketing the City
Right! And I think this is virtually the only bad publicity I've seen. p.s. It was nice to read people from Pittsburgh sticking up for Cleveland in the comments section.

Cleveland: Marketing the City
^ Civic leaders have sold the RNC as a magic wand to correct the city’s ills—or at least bring a significant influx of cash. There are good reasons to doubt them on both counts. No civic leader promised any magic wand or influx of cash. Strawman journalism.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
These massings have me genuinely worried. The Lakefront is a very limited and vitally important asset. It's special. It deserves nothing short of excellent architecture and thoughtful planning. Is anyone here confident that the city will be managing this process the right way?

2016 U.S. Senate Race
This was a topic of discussion among some of my R friends last night. To them, "Repeal Obamacare" is hollow but necessary talking point; that it has no likelihood of actually happening. Go ahead and repeal it--as long as they replace it with something better. We are all ears! Exactly.

I saw a Portman ad today. What was strange is they used a very flattering photograph of Ted Strickland, like it was maybe from 20 years ago.

Columbus: General Transit Thread
^ So the City is wondering who will pay for light rail. Fair enough. But the question remains, who is going to pay for the smart car transition?
