  1. Agree. There's a degree of sophistication inherent to these kinds of issues that often gets overlooked.
  2. Some perspective vs. the minimum wage increases. http://blog.skepticallibertarian.com/2013/02/25/remedial-economics-and-the-minimum-wage-for-presidents/ http://www.realclearmarkets.com/charts/10_things_economists_believe-44.html
  3. Wow. I've been peaking through the fence for a few days now. I think most people will be really content with this. Especially love how the Victory statue is visible. Very thoughtful and surprising element.
  4. The area around Edgewater is taking the cut-de-sac approach to coastal development. It's the provencial way, and it's not at all unusual.
  5. ^ I think that was the good move.
  6. What is the logic behind 15/hr in Cleveland when places like San Francisco (12.25) and Seattle (15/hr) have much much higher cost of living?
  7. ^ It's waterfront. It's historic. It's close to everything. And the people who control this large part of it can't seem to think of anything imaginative.
  8. I had the same thought. Why not push those towers back and make this space an active marina for boaters? This would be one more unique and needed amenity for the growing neighborhood. I am sure all establishments would enjoy this. Here's the possible answer, from the Crains article: Absent from the plan are more entertainment uses or additional retail space. “We feel there’s adequate entertainment and restaurant use at the site,” Jacobs said. The plan isn't for more public use; this is a boring corporate and residential cul-de-sac.
  9. Cleveland "filing" on all cylinders! Cleveland Rising: What the city will look like by 2020 http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/cleveland/what-cleveland-will-look-like-in-2020/183175351
  10. ^ Nope that's exactly what I got from it as well. Can't be a coincidence.
  11. Trios Bar in Lakewood has closed. Undergoing its transformation into a bbq and microbrew centric spot. http://www.cleveland.com/lakewood/index.ssf/2015/06/lakewood_investor_plans_to_ope.html
  12. Looking great. Weird seeing the Amtrak train in the daylight though!
  13. I'm disappointed there's no plan at all for boardwalk-centric retail and activities. With the aquarium and music venue as anchors this space seems a prime location for something that the city is sorely lacking: a waterside place to take your family for a day of low cost fun. A Euclid Beach 2.0. Virtually every coastal city in America has these kinds of places, why not Cleveland?
  14. If there's a dirtbike and no trailer, certain inferences can be made, like you have no intention of taking it out in the hills somewhere to ride it. If that's the claim, grill them about details and maybe they slip up. I wonder how many of these kids have solid cover stories about preparing for a run at professional MX. Chasing them down shouldn't be necessary. I'm still confused how a fleet of Interceptors couldn't get in front of a 1979 Malibu, so yeah I'd rule that out. And this has nothing to do with using the bikes to sell drugs... you can't ride them in the city regardless. Bicycles you can. My friend who is an avid rider tells me that the chances of a patrol car catching a fleeing dirt bike are close to zero. Now the atv guys I'm guessing are sitting ducks.
  15. I suppose this isn't completely off-topic in the suburban sprawl thread haha. Most theories say Native American Indians migrated to the American continent from Asia across a land bridge around 11,500 years ago. Yes, this would, in fact, make the first Americans Asians. http://genetics.thetech.org/ask/ask41
  16. I can't figure out if the choice of location is preposterous, or ingenious.
  17. I think you are mistaking me for someone who is critical of this. I'm not. I think it's a great idea.
  18. Agreed. Astoria is another bright spot. I don't think the vacant, trouble-attracting houses will be vacant for much longer.
  19. Might as well pile on. A friend who lives in Detroit Shoreway witnessed several individuals with guns chasing another individual through the neighborhood. No shots fired. The guy got away after getting rid of everything in his pockets and climbing over bared wire fence. Afterward there were guys looking all around with flashilights, presumably for whatever the fleeing guy got rid of. This all happened just south of Detroit Ave near 58th. Geesh. When was this? Thursday.
  20. Someone's nephew must have some actual skills. That 21 for tobacco law is the height of ridiculous, do a couple members of council own tobacco stores just outside city limits? My friend just bought a pack of cigarettes for a 19 year old lol. I should have made a citizens arrest.

  22. I'm guessing the people they're marketing this to live elsewhere in the winter months.
  23. If they plan on tearing down Harbor Inn and the warehouse across the street that would be a shame.
  24. ^ Well that's out of left field. I'm interested to see not only if it's well done overall, but also how this will be received by the skate-genre folks.
  25. I was thinking the same thing; Forest City leaving Cleveland. If it stays, can't see them building a separate HDQ building. Would make a nice tenant in a new building though (nuCLEus, SW, MedM). Who knows? Wait-n-see; of course, we all hope FC remains committed to CLE at least HDQ's wise. FC at nuCLEus would be a happy ending.
