Cleveland: Zoning Discussion
Reserve Square isn't all bad, but the lack of interaction with Superior and Chester is awful. Now being that Superior is so needlessly wide, it's my hope that they can someday add storefronts right alongside those parking garages, and you can even expand the sidewalk area.

It's a great idea, but the execution has to be there. One or two aren't going to make much of an impact. A certain amount of retail is required to create critical mass. People keep saying there's already too many empty storefronts downtown; proof that downtown doesn't need any more retail. Well by that logic Tower City Mall doesn't need any more retail either.

This. This made me laugh, but in a sad kind of way.

Here's a cheap solution for the time being. Also, empty storefronts aren't necessarily an indicator that there are too many. Providing additional retail space could drive down rates enough so there is more opportunity for small business to get a foothold. Anyhow this is seed planting. If we want to kill these ridiculous dead zones we have every reason to try something a little unorthodox.

Columbus Crew Discussion
Outside of Central Ohio, the 31 Crew games not already broadcast nationally are available on Time Warner SportsChannel and via the MLS Live and Direct Kick packages. So Cleveland residents have availability to Crew games via 1) Cable (thru TWCSC); 2) Internet (thru MLS Live); and 3) Satellite (thru Direct Kick). If that's not enough access for you to be a Crew fan, then you're not going to be a Crew fan. How about the Cleveland Crew Backers? Watch parties at a bar, couple of road trips to Cbus. Could be fun! Hmm...I just so happen to know a guy who can help kick that off....

I'd comment here: https://www.facebook.com/wildeaglecleveland/?hc_location=ufi p.s. their motto is "eat, drink, inebriate." stay classy Cleveland Wow, the "substance", or lack there of, is aimed at chili cheese fries and getting blacked out. I hope they hire reliable security. It's disconcerting. Like they're going out of their way to create a "punch palace."

How do you go about undoing it? The buildings in question were approved and built over 30 yrs ago. Coming up with new design criteria is great but there's no way to enforce it retroactively... You can provide tax incentives to help effect change. Just one example is what you see in Cleveland Heights and Lakewood with the Madison storefront renovation program.

Steven Litt has never been so 100 percent right. The city needs to be more aggressive about undoing the past damage, but instead they will continue to allow it....it's demoralizing.

Not only that, it's great how they are in scale with the surrounding buildings. Detroit Ave is shaping up into something special.

Great article. I can assure you it's no mystery why the few walkable ares of San Diego are bursting with activity and new investment.

Good running game is every young QB's best friend. The Browns running game needs to get way better.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
That's flawed logic. Of course they do. More talented players tend to rise to the top of the draft. However, it could just as easily be said that there are more quarterbacks not drafted first who hit. Players aren't more talented because of where they're drafted. If the Browns draft Wentz 2nd it doesn't make him any more likely to be a good QB. Virtually every media outlet is saying Wentz is the best QB to draft. Are all these people wrong?

Ironically enough, I was working at Erieview when I realized "with these views, I could definitely live downtown." It will be interesting to see if the mall picks up any additional business from the added residential.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Gutsy win tonight vs a sparky Pacers squadron. Some observations: -Great to see Cavs give the effort, but the chemistry was not so good -Austin Carr is very frustrated with this team's lack of cohesion -Delly with a huuuuge three to tie late in the game -LeBron was yelling something to Kyrie at length during a time out -Thompson hit a few nice baskets inside during crunch time, showing good touch along with his usual physical play -Thompson with an amazing block on Paul George to save the game -Love struggled on offense with Pacers toughness and athleticism -Paul George is a heck of a player and a good sport Anyhow, another in the win column. Good night!

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
That's how towns with perennial losing teams are. I listened to a grand total of 5 minutes of sports talk this morning. Carmen and Lima, Mike & Mike, and Rizz were all talking talking about Golden State when I flipped them on. I said bleep this and turned it off. I'll just watch the games. I don't need the media telling me the Cavs have no chance. Just an aside, have you ever listened to the sports media in NY, Philly or Boston? Cleveland media is absolutely tame in comparison.

Cleveland isn't about enjoyment. It's about putting everything under a microscope! To me that's just how sports towns are.

You're mixing up two different towers. Riverview is on 25th and adjacent to the Market District. Lakeview Tower is next to the Lakeview Estates--that one is just north of the Shoreway. Either way, I would not want to see Riverview go away for many reasons. The people who live there are part of the neighborhood. I'd prefer to keep those seniors there, and give them some fresh young neighbors in high rises immediately to the north! And build out Riverview to the sidewalk, more storefronts!! Ha, might as well get the imagination rolling.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Ouch. I was so hyped up for this season but once again something is just not quite right with our Cavs. They're not fun to watch. They lose games in the final seconds...but the soap opera dramatic rumors are the worst part of it.

Agree. The situation is what it is. If you select an immediate impact player and win a few more games then it only stands to hurt you getting a QB in next years draft.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
This is both financially sound and ethical. Props to CMHA. Although low-income residents will be displaced by the sale, the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority says proceeds will be used to provide about 300 additional affordable housing units elsewhere. Residents of Bollinger Tower will be assisted in finding and relocating to affordable, local housing, the nonprofit said. “Selling Bollinger Tower fulfills our long-term strategy to expand CMHA’s capacity to assist more residents,” CEO Charles Hillman said in a press release. “This transaction furthers our plan to divest ourselves of high-maintenance real estate in order to invest directly in people’s lives. Residents will receive portable housing vouchers enabling them to live in apartments of their choice in neighborhoods of their choice.”

Even if that's true, any time Geis takes any kind of stance that's adverse to a developer's plans it's going to look bad.
