  1. If the lobby had public access (bars, restaurants, entertainment) I think it would be much more accessible than a retailer, who given the downtown location, may have limited store hours.

"LeBron is the best player. But the key player in this series is Matthew Dellavadova." -Isiah Thomas Just think of that phrase...really gives perspective on how utterly unpredictable this season has been.
  3. I just want to reiterate that this is an officer who had a nervous breakdown during gun range training. For all we know he looked at the kid and saw a fire breathing dragon. Who knows how long it will take to weed out the unqualified. That's really the lynch pin in all these reforms, I think.
  4. i love the food mobs idea. we used to do something like that in the early chowhound blog days around nyc, it was a lot of fun. thats so cool they brought 60 people to a cleveland somali restaurant last time. you have to make arrangements in advance, especially with the more off the radar ethnic restaurants so they can handle it, but its well worth the efforts. i hope that grows in popularity -- it seems to be! columbian food is great too once in awhile, if you have a big appetite. Yeah I can only imagine it's a tough business environment for these mom and pops. There are so many great places that are just off the radar.
  5. ^ Nice! All the snark was in the right place. Positive run. Way to go Scene.
  6. I fortunately haven't had quality issues, but yes, I would like to go in there and have more food options available for aroiund 5.00. I loved Helvetica too. But their hours were somewhat strange. Since bela dubby closed/turned into Taco Tontos I would've guessed there was ample room for another coffee shop/cafe/hangout like the Root (constantly overcrowded!) but every time I went into Helvetica it seemed like they were closing early.
  7. I'm a bit worried that this place needs a shot in the arm. http://www.cleveland.com/cooking/index.ssf/2015/06/lunch_mob_to_hit_colombian_res.html
  8. Cool fact: Small town guy in a big city, Tony Dekker (Great Lake Swimmers) wrote this song to acquaint himself with the Toronto East-West line.

Agreed. It's intriguing. Maybe Scene will get to the bottom of it. Otherwise, it will just be another ridiculous event with Akron politics that the general public never hears about.
  10. I think that would be a fantastic move. They'd probably have an easier time attracting students to a central location, and Downtown is certainly appealing to creatives and young people. There's a bunch of smaller buildings that could be renovated for them! http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150607/NEWS/306079987/virginia-marti-is-changing-course This section of Lakewood is already depressing. Hate to see them move.

    1. groped a co-worker 2. had local newspaper hurt his feelings
  12. Maybe the suitcases full of cash haven't reached the proper channels yet!
  13. The Fire Dept. in my hometown was famous for getting to fires at light speed. Then it turned out the fireman were the ones lighting them, so they kinda had an unfair advantage over E. Cleveland.
  14. CLE got a dubious shout out during the Cavs/Warriors game. The announcer joked that getting to Cleveland was a drag; that it required too many layovers and plane transfers. There's no such thing as bad publicity, some say.

I'd like to see LeBron, Kyrie, K Love and Andy all play fewer minutes during the regular season. Let's make it the MOZ and Tristan show. Those two guys are impervious to fatigue or injury.
  16. My expert boardwalk vision tells me it's the polymer stuff. I think it's made from recycled plastic.
  17. Hmm, well I'd say even the half-assed makeover is still a drastic improvement imho. And I think what we're seeing is a change in philosophy; that the beach isn't just a place to drive past at 70 mph.

    Akron being Akron.
  19. He doesn't have an emotional attachment to any of his businesses. While I understand the need for that in order to be able to fire people or to sell a business if you foresee a potential unrecoverable decline coming, I also look for a little humanity in my business owners. Offering just enough quality to make money is Tony's MO. He would rather destroy his competition by other means. Or even his own business if there's a financial benefit. He learned his business acumen from being organized crime, an MO in which a mobster is more willing to set his business on fire and collect the insurance than to take a financial loss that will be difficult to recover from. And that's why I like to throw support to the mom and pop places when I can. When people truly care, and they do have an emotional investment in their restaurant it really shows in 1. how a place looks and 2. how you are treated as a patron. We are lucky there are so many good little bars and restaurants in CLE.
  20. He does but he can't own specific restaurants because his felony record prevents him from holding a liquor license. But there's ways around that. True. Though I still think the guy who tossed the sign through the HB window would be safer in jail. Tony George once said in an interview that he doesn't particularly have any emotional ties to his restaurants. It's caused me to spend my money elsewhere.
  21. It's childlike. Like "Snarly" should be the name.
  22. when i heard this the first thing i thought was thats exactly how ryan leaf woulda handled it.
  23. Oh yeah? What did ya think?
