  1. Interesting. With that sort of demand it's going to be interesting to see how investment goes into Linden or other established-but-historically-struggling areas. I just would really hate to see all those little pastoral and woodsy communities in the hinterlands turn into tract housing and traffic nightmares. I've already seen that all play out in NJ, where the infrastructure could never handle the growth, and still hasn't.
  2. ^ The headline sounds positive. The growth projections for Columbus are almost staggering. Can anyone weigh in on whether they think there's enough being done to incentivize downtown and downtown adjacent residential vs. the status quo farmland-to-housing out in the exurbs?

I rented a car last year and drove down through half of Florida before I realized what the heck was happening lol. Yeah this feature is terrible and the concept of driving...perfectly....straight! was maybe devised by people who've never driven on an actual highway before.
  4. And they're from OHIO haha. Shame!!!!! ;-)
  5. I like that idea as well. And alternate take on it is being in close proximity to CSU and Tri-C could provide a good atmosphere for young people. Just hate seeing us lose that really cool looking architecture, oh well. And since we're in the campus district thread, does anyone know if these two schools have a plan to share any resources? It would seem redundant e.g. for both to have separate intramural facilities and fields.
  6. I think each one of us can imagine best scenarios. These plans have been dreams for long time! The possibilities are endless but the realities are, unfortunately, somewhat opposite. I don't much care for Haslam, but removing a billionaire from the Lakefront development equation probably hurts a lot more than it helps.
  7. This is what I had been afraid of. Appears a strong argument that keeping the Stadium where it is at least gives immediate investment into the Lakefront plan.
  8. Gotcha. I guess my main point was that even with the high degree of industrialization we still had Edgewater Park and Euclid Beach Park as crown jewels before they fell to ruin. Edgewater has been stunningly revitalized and it's fairly protected inside a bay, but most all the other area beaches are long gone or in desperate need.
  9. The loss of beaches has been most detrimental thing from my perspective. I don't think the mills were involved in that loss, since the mills date back a long time and the sand loss is comparatively recent. It's more so because of overdevelopment right up to the waters edge along with some really shortsighted erosion control measures. These continue today.
  10. Like @E Rocc I'd much prefer the Beachland. But HOB does usually have really good sound in my experience. And speaking of sound it should be interesting, as OMD last year toured more like a lo-fi act with only a live drummer, keyboardist and guy with a laptop + the singer.
  11. Yep. And it sure would be great if there were some type of retail presence at the stations. Having more people around would definitely make the areas seem safer, especially at night. Also that means more stakeholders for keeping the stations clean and welcoming, which we all know is not always the case. Anyhow RTA needs to start thinking outside of the box more, that status quo is just not acceptable.
  12. ^ Yep! And similar looking “urban pioneer” townhomes in downtown San Diego built 20 years ago are now surrounded by 30 story high rises.
  13. Let the intrigue begin! I've always been a huge fan of a mixed-use working waterfront. At least in the case of places like Cleveland where industrial is the historical and current usage.
  14. Looking at the overhead shot I'm wondering if we'll get a bit more residential height on those surrounding parcels someday?

"Kennedy said his department has had situations where children got access to marijuana, were taken to Akron Children's Hospital and nearly died." Okay, making sure that kids don't ingest drugs is extremely important, but this kind of hyperbole needs to stop. The majority of experts on the matter contend that it's not possible for children to die of a marijuana overdose. It's not hard to educate yourself on all this, so when police and the Governor himself say these things it just damages their credibility.
  16. Yes!!!! I believe I was laughed at here when I mentioned wanting this place preserved as is. I'm taking the W here...that never happens haha "Patrons who did manage to make it to Edgewater on a day when Frank was in will find a comfortably familiar interior when they return. Other than new bathrooms and a fresh coat of paint, the decades-old tavern has been lovingly preserved."
  17. Great point. In either case I hope we'll be seeing a better ideas for W. 3rd/Erieside Ave. I'm not sure what can be done to remake that stretch to be integrated with the urban fabric, but it even in renderings it looks desolate, auto-centric, disconnected, anti-urban and wholly uninteresting.
  18. For Great Lakes Brewing to not to be all in on embracing all this new connectivity to the lake and river seems very contrary to what they've long advocated for.
  19. Anyone else think the car in the rendering is a clever nod to the funeral home :-)
  20. I remember that! I also seem to remember they determined the relative safety by studying insects.
  21. I wish I was wrong but I don't think it's possible to geologically reconstruct anything like Presque Isle, if that's what you guys mean.
  22. I cannot find it now of course, but there's an under construction pic of the building that shows some interesting looking structural steel. It's easy to imagine it looking pretty cool if it was somehow uncovered and visible under a new glass facade. edit - here:
  23. I'm seeing that now, well almost. I'm not paying for articles on Cleveland.com lol. I thought I'd read that the group approached the owner out of the blue with too good an offer to pass up.
  24. I'm not really thrilled at all about this. Griffins was my spot when I'm back in the hood and I'll miss it. Plus I am not going to patronize places with a track record of mistreating employees. Why couldn't this dumb restaurant group just find another spot? Or better yet build on one of the dumb empty lots over that way. I wish the city or whoever did not tear down that huge house with the storefronts. Those would be something by now.
  25. I would have thought a hotel between downtown and Cleveland Clinc/University Circle was a no-brainer.
