  1. Birdtown was supposed to get a really great looking "brick" street makover. I wonder if that's still part of the plan?

Funny. If you just looked at Michael Jordan the wrong way, you were whistled for a foul.
  3. It's not often when one finds a sensible post on cleveland.com. But this comment echos some of my concerns: While it is great news that this awesome venue is reopening, I for one think it is pointless. Cleveland doesn't have any radio stations playing new rock/alternative music, which are the types of acts that play a venue like the Odeon. We have 3 classic rock station, an oldies station, and seemingly 25 pop/country stations. Until the acts that will play this type of venue get radio airplay here, they will continue to skip over Cleveland for cities like Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Detroit that give them radio airplay. Between Beachland Ballroom, HOB, and the Odeon, there aren't enough acts that come to Cleveland to sustain all three.
  4. The Chicago Worlds Fair comes to mind. Beautiful looking architecture that was actually made of straw.
  5. Great thinking. It improves the environment without costly construction. Like KJP I do kinda dig the unique environment under the bridge; lots of character. If NYC can build a park under ground, then CLE can do something interesting and outside the box to highlight this area.
  6. Well one big reason it's an unpleasant pedestrian experience is that all those windows facing the street have been bricked over. The new hotel doesn't do a great job of embracing the street either. Some new signage would be nice for wayfinding. I hope nobody suggests paving over the brick street.
  7. Replace? Like with BRT? Touché, but no, he mentioned in last week's Sound of Ideas program the need for new rail cars. Per KJP a few months ago, will be interesting to see how many they order to get a sense how committed they are to current service levels on the entire rail system. He mentioned the need for them, but also admitted that they have no plans in place to replace them nor any idea how they'd pay for it. If that's indeed true then I'm with Vince. Because that is absurd.
  8. Replace? Like with BRT?
  9. You maybe right. But I can guarantee you that Marous Bros. and their project leads absolutely set foot in there before buying.
  10. I don't know about that. Vast majority of BP owners never set foot in American Greetings gallery before buying. Plenty still don't know it exists even after purchasing. And conversely, the 'many thousands' who frequent the gallery very rarely venture back into BP. Even though a single block separates them, it's just inconvenient enough to drive back up 78th & back down 76th and there's no pedestrian pathway. Might as well stop at Luxe or go straight back to the Shoreway. I'm not saying AG patrons and residents bought condos at BP. I'm just saying they helped establish the area as not only a safer place to congregate, but helped establish that neighborhood as a magnet for further development. Take away AG and for a decade or more that neighborhood had zero going on. Less than zero, actually. Agree to disagree.

Cavs with Kyre > Rockets with Howard. Long long way to go. But after that game I'm really loving the idea that these two could possibly meet again in the finals. I'm yawning just thinking about the Spurs making another run.
  12. If that property is indeed valuable, then it's in the best interest of CMHA to sell it and then use the proceeds toward its established goals. To simply hold onto this land for the sake of history would then be a breach of common sense.
  13. I wouldn't discount the importance of the American Greetings building in the overall equation. Many thousands of people who would've never otherwise set foot in the hood have been brought in by countless events there in recent years. If that place is a vacant warehouse, then I'm not sure the turnaround would've been as timely.

i did like the fire. but i didnt like seeing lebron go into l vs 5 mode. this may never be said again, but the cavs offense - they were doing better without him.

    Wow....LBJ has melted.

The Rockets and their fans are in LeBron's head. I think he just missed four foul shots in a row. These teams are brawling, and it looks like the Cavs are the ones more affected by the physicality.
  17. So many great things to say about SF. You did such a nice job of capturing the sites! p.s. speaking of stumbling upon things there, I managed to run into this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove
  18. I agree with most of this. Corporate sameness is lousy. Renovation doesn't need to be detonation. And while not on the scale of OSU, The Univ. of Akron has gone through such a sanitation is really feels like the mom and pop soul of the place has been ripped away.
  19. I can't wait to hear Tom Hamilton's voice again on the radio for the first time. Ha, that comment struck me as a Yogi Berra quote.

Over the years I've seen a whole lot of confused drivers at the park entrance, including folks turning onto the jogging path. It will be nice to actually see something that's a bit easier for visitors to comprehend lol.

Great point, re: grand entrance. I'd like to see the Shoreway Blvd. improvements make it seem more like you're right in the middle of the Park vs. driving past it. Funny I thought the architectural style is right in line with the original structures at Edge. https://www.cardcow.com/images/set9/card13584_fr.jpg

Anyone else think this would be a good addition to Edgewater Park?
  23. Having both the Horizon League and MAC tourney would be great!!
  24. It became a slum starting in the 1950s and 60s. My co-worker's Greek mother lived there in the 1940s-50s and said it was very nice. Everyone pitched in to maintain the complex, plant flowers, clear snow, etc. They had a real sense of ownership. Then CMHA started contracting out everything and the sense of ownership went away. No one cared anymore. The Soviet Bloc architecture just sucks the hope out of everyone.
  25. The idea seems to be that people who live or work downtown will be making smaller purchases. I can relate because it's now really easy for me to stop at Heinen's (Mentor) at a time they are not busy and grab a few things two or three times a week, including lunch more often than not. I would expect they would do a reverse Wallyword and focus more on the smaller item sizes as well. Yes, they will have parcel pick up. They have a refrigerated room in which they will keep your cart while you go to pick up your car. They will then load your car once you pull up to the curb. West Side Market vendors should be reading this thread!
