  1. Very interesting facts to consider.
  2. Agree it looks cool. The views are great. I'm just wondering whether that justifies the cost of maintaining it, and the cost of keeping those commuters so isolated from civilization.
  3. ^ Wow this looks really great. The landscaping plan looks very well thought out.

    You can stop there.
  5. You can't be serious... Where I grew up in NJ there were lots of high arcing bridges over waterways. They could work on the Cuyahoga too. I'd love to see a cost-benefit analysis of sacking the bridge and routing that traffic at ground level. Anyone have an independent study at CSU or Case and wanna tackle this?

    FIFA....the worst monopoly on earth.

The law of probability: one of the two fare machines at W 117 will be broken.
  8. Awesome. It's usually such a great competition.
  9. This is an excellent point. The other day there was a huge fire in the beachfront neighborhood just north of me. I saw the smoke and initially started praying it wasn't one of the old school, 50's era motels or bungalow houses. Turns out it was the brand new microbrewery; a nice building, but by no means irreplaceable or anywhere near representative of the soul or identity of the hood. So much of the area just looks homogenized with new stuff. The old buildings have all the history...all the memories.
  10. Everyone should be fearful.
  11. I don't see this as a problem. As you note, the City facilitated Hustler's move away from FEB to aid in the more positive developments occurring now at FEB. The fact that the area where Hustler was shunted to is converting from a rundown industrial wasteland (next to the crummy-looking Diamond's Men's Club) into a more productive people-centered neighborhood, is a good thing. And if the City helps Hustler move again because it's growing-upscale neighbors don't like it, who's to say the exercise won't need to be repeated if Hustler's next receiving neighborhood similarly develops? Cleveland's a big, diverse city and can handle different types of venues so long as everybody concerned is respectful. Last I looked, we're (thankfully) not Salt Lake City... Even though some may not like the prospects fancy strip bars like Larry Flynt's joint, I haven't heard of a major crime problem there since it moved there 4-5 years ago (sadly, I'm hearing more crime surrounding the casino than at Flynt's ti**ie bar). Note that Adult Mart, with its "interesting" mags and creative adult "toys," sits on E. 9th in the thriving WHD almost directly across from upscale Constantino's Market -- A.M. has been there for years but the WHD has managed not to devolve into Sodom & Gomorrah... THe building itself is the real travesty. And repeating the expense of moving them is an obvious example that it was idiotic to move them there to begin with.
  12. Maybe it was growing up with the Dukes of Hazzard, but I just assumed most every Southern city is wracked with corruption. Then City Confidential came on the air and confirmed those suspicions. Then again, Northern cities (I won't mention names) are also dysfunctional. I don't know...maybe Canada is a safe haven from this? Toronto looks nice. Their mayor seems like a real swell cat.

Thanks, found the network has them for free for like the next month!
  14. Agreed. If the pressure to remove Chief Wahoo ever succeeds (as it probably should), I would vote to revert to the Spiders name. The weird thing about changing the name...there would no longer be a current major sports team in town with a World Series/Superbowl/NBA Championship. Yes, I know the Browns won NFL titles, but nobody seems to count those.
  15. Oh man, this is a sore subject. You go from Crooked River Brewing Company in a historic building, to the frigging windowless 80's style crapitechture of Hustler Club. In a historic district, no less. Anyhow, glad to see more positive development in the works. A major plus if they can actually save those old buildings. And seeing the boardwalk in the rendering, I'm starting to wonder just what the future holds with regards to waterfront connectivity. Does anyone know what the long term master plan is for the boardwalks?

I don't think we're ever going to get the Mayor's true feelings on the subject. He's basically walking a political tightrope, at least it's the way it seems. Behind the scenes it could very much be like the Wire...lots of power plays going on.

So far, not looking so good tonite. LeBron's shot is still way off, and he looks out of it. And Shawn Marion is playing like some random tall guy they just happened to find outside the arena. It's still fun to hate on Noah. He looks like a rejected extra from Pirates of the Caribbean. Like some sort of bearded pirate-woman.
  18. Darn I liked MoCa. But they never seemed capable of grabbing any of the rush hour Starbucks crowd.
  19. ^ Not to be argumentative, but I've actually seen DCA employees doing quite a bit of landscaping. You can see them en masse on E. 12th.
  20. If that were true, why adopt some special taxing district? Why wouldn't the developer just build this charge into the lease? I don't know, that's a good question. Maybe charging the direct tax on the consumer is more streamlined and efficient? You can certainly see from a business standpoint that raising the leasing rates puts more onus directly on the lessee.
  21. I'm not well-versed in this, but can you explain how this is any different than funding the Downtown Cleveland Alliance employees? I see no difference in terms of the big picture. But regarding the details I suppose this is different because the cost will be put directly on the consumer. Cimperman brought up a good point that the hesitation about the FEB tax was very similar to that about the DCA when it was first proposed. DCA is paid by businesses themselves, not consumers. Totally different How can you say that it's totally different? Businesses obtain their income directly from consumers; either way the consumer bears the cost. It is a DIRECT tax on the business owners themselves in DCA. With FEB it would be a DIRECT tax on consumers. I get that. But in the end, what is the difference? The money in the end comes from CONSUMERS.

Deep in the Q!!!! Well, the weird thing is I don't recall Joe Tait ever saying "I hope the Cavs make this shot...." or anything like that. I don't want the media hoping for anything, I just want them to call the game and provide analysis. Openly rooting, even it's for a competitive game is just unprofessional for a national broadcast imho. So if you are hoping that Chris Bosh schools K-Love on the way to the basket, well then you are the enemy.
  23. Strange. You would think that he would model the station after a giant Bus.
  24. I've noticed they extended the scaffolding high enough for the clock tower! Ha, I wish. Still looking good though.
