2014 Gubernatorial Election
People are upset that he was driving around illegally. Normally not that big deal, but it raises questions because Fitzgerald sells himself on law and order, honesty, integrity etc. Plus it gives the bad impression of an elitist disconnect from the laws from which regular people like us must abide.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
The street is so underwhelming that the nice planters actually seem to make it all look worse.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
We may never know exactly what happened between FitzGerald and a woman who was not his wife, at 4:30 in the morning, in the parking lot of an industrial complex in Westlake. What we do know is that women are far more likely to abandon FitzGerald over the issue than men. I'd like to see a cite for that comment.

I guess I'm just not as hopeful for the area. There are still hundreds of acres of industrial land just sitting idle.

Glass Block is Terrible
Definintely not a modern aesthetic when we bought it. Although depending on when it was installed they may have tried for something 'modern-ish'. As we've redecorated each room we've had to extract multiple layers of questionable wallpaper choices. I won't get into the metallic floral print wallpaper in the master bath we uncovered. OY! Interesting. Here's the question: was the glass block chosen in conjunction with the wallpaper? Or was the glass block like an insidious gateway drug, that spurned the homeowners to make increasingly bad choices?

Ouch. This house looks like an urban transformer station, sans electricity.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Right! And what's really great is that the gateway/southern border of downtown has seen dramatic improvement. For too many years the very first impression visitors got from I 77/71 has been drab, crumbling infrastructure and the "cityside forest" aka dead sapling trees. Today with the 9, County building and road improvements the city just looks so much better.

Until there's an emergency. You're trapped in the basement by fire, angry gangmemebers or vicious dogs.... and the glass block seals your doom.

Glass Block is Terrible
I couldn't find any threads specifically devoted to this important subject. La mort aux blocs de verre! (Death to glass blocks!) Bob Borson I would be happy if glass blocks were never used again. I have always hated them, everywhere, every time, every circumstance, forever and ever in perpetuity. Person I don’t know: “Howdy, sure is nice weather we’re having ain’t it?” Me: “Glass blocks are terrible and should never be used again” I blame architect Pierre Charreau and Maison de Verre by for starting this fascination with glass block. Maison de Verre (House of Glass) was built in 1932 and was constructed in the early modern style. (I wrote a post of the working man’s rules of modernism here). Maison de Verre stressed honesty of materials, adoption of the machine aesthetic, express the structure of the building, and rejection of ornamentation. This is actually a really great house and a case study of early modernism. This project warrants attention now for many reasons, most notably could be that it is a urban adaptive re-use and renovation of an existing building. The patron owner had wanted to tear the entire building down but the tenant on the top floor refused to sell so Maison de Verre had to be built underneath the top floor. This is a great project and if glass blocks had never been used again, I would probably still like them. The French invented glass blocks in the early 1900′s and sometime around the 1930′s developments in machine production made a project like Maison de Verre possible. Maybe if you’re French you know how to design with them, otherwise I challenge anyone to show me a project where the use of glass blocks actually improved the architecture where no other building material could have worked with far better results. So why would someone want to use glass block? It is typically used for creating some sort of visual screen (like glaucoma) between spaces to provide privacy while allowing light to pass through. That description sounds like a window to me, so let’s look at some visual examples of the variety of uses for glass block..... http://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/la-mort-aux-blocs-de-verre-death-to-glass-blocks/

NFL: General News & Discussion
I wear my (unlucky) Tomlinson jersey to Browns games too. Buffalo fans have been worse. Maybe I'm just better at defending myself here since I have a good/better knowledge of Cleveland sports than most Browns fans. I want to say that iirc the Browns fans were actually invited by the Buffalo Bills to attend games?

NFL: General News & Discussion
Buffalo's stadium is terrible. And they play commercials for auto dealerships on the "jumbotron." And when I was there last the electricity went out, so not only was there no beer for sale but we lost the game clock, so the referees had to do a bird-like dance to signal when the QB's had to snap the ball. And I was treated like garbage for wearing my Chargers jersey, being told to "go back home to my mansion" ha ha. The icing on the pathetic Orchard Park cake was the glorified shrine to O.J. SIMPSON prominently displayed near the end zone. But despite all that, their predominantly fat, uneducated fan base still doesn't deserve to lose their team.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
If Kyrie goes down (God forbid) we're going to need a proven scorer to take some of the pressure off of LeBron. That's Kevin Love. Nobody else on the roster is a consistent scorer.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Waiters is my favorite player, and I think he's vastly underrated, probably influenced by perceived attitude issues. I have yet to see numbers that show me he's any less of a player than Bradley Beal, a player many in the national media tout as a future star. Dion certainly had some "WOW" moments on the court this year.

Pretenders represent on this top albums list. Devo, Cars and Boston also appear with well-deserved spots. And New Bomb Turks got a sideline mention as being inspired by the British band Wire. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/the-100-greatest-debut-albums-of-all-time-20130322/pretenders-19691231

The High Cost of Free Parking
Didn't they already try that? I thought that was their policy and that they got sued by some NEO suburb, so now it's in limbo. http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2014/07/sewer_districts_stormwater_fee.html

The High Cost of Free Parking
Some off the wall conceptual ideas to devalue surface lots: 1. Propose a law, to be phased in over a few years, that would make it illegal for private entities to charge for downtown parking. Allow exemptions for parking garages that are built or retrofitted with good urban design principles. 2. Make all public and on-street parking free. Utilize time limit enforcement for commercial districts.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Same for air traffic controllers - 50 ng/ml. So even if the Feds really did give NFL a hard time, what is the explanation for the NFL limit being so stringent?

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Sure, but my point isn't about attendance; it's about having a plethora of empty seats during the game. Well that's an easy solution (Idk about the Browns), win and they will come. That's all we want. Again, my point is that people aren't in their seats. The fans are technically "there" but they're inside ie club seating bars, restaurants, etc. It makes the game atmosphere so lame.
