  1. And Gov. Strickland couldn't find Cleveland on a map. State level apathy over Northeast Ohio's infrastructure isn't a recent thing. For better or worse, This "Opportunity" parkway is bi-partisan.
  2. As soon as Towpath and Lake Link Trail get completed this area is going to be teaming with people. And with improvements to Whiskey Island, Edgewater and east/west access? Imagine that for a second. This spot is going to be the best spot in all the city, if not the region.
  3. Well, what choice do the voters really have? In addition to the redevelopment of downtown, the administrations of Messrs. Jackson and FitzGerald are working together to back an extension of the sin tax on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products that finances the Gateway sports complex and FirstEnergy Stadium. The pair also support plans for a new roadway through Cleveland's East Side — the Opportunity Corridor. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20131215/SUB1/312159989
  4. "Design work for the $40 million Phase 2 of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium has begun and includes a series of glass atriums along the Cuyahoga River with exhibits that educate visitors about “Rivers and Oceans of the World”. Phase 2 will also honor major events in Cleveland’s history, including Moses Cleaveland’s landing in the Flats, the birth of Industry in Cleveland, the start of the Environmental movement in the United States and Cleveland’s renaissance in the 1980’s." Well that does sound kinda awesome. And it would open up the aquarium to be more visible and interactive with surroundings. Vibrancy all around. Display the boats that were dispatched to clean the river. We've got a great and compelling history and I applaud every attempt to celebrate that. Also, I wish they could get all Northeast Ohio high schools and universities in on this from a research/education standpoint.
  5. Nice. At this rate Ohio could very well reach Michigan as brewing mecca!

  7. Helvetica on Detroit Ave in Lakewood has closed. Their hours were kind of strange, kind of like a coffee shop vibe but opening late and closing early. I don't think they ever hit a stride. On the bright side, the sign in the window says stay tuned for a new location so that's good. And they fixed up the interior so nicely it's easy to see another cafe or restaurant filling the space.
  8. that sounds like a great hood!
  9. ^ Thanks Clueless this could be my favorite small-scale project in CLE.

The few, the proud, the performers that now call Ohio home! Or perhaps it's an urban legend, but some say Mr. Clapton resides in German Village. http://www.whereseric.com/eric-clapton-news/303-eric-clapton-surprise-guest-appearance-columbus-ohio-jimmie-vaughan Then there is Cincy resident Peter Frampton!

From wiki. Benjamin Orr was born Benjamin Orzechowski in Lakewood, Ohio, to parents of Polish, Russian, Czechoslovakian, and German descent, who actively supported his musical endeavors. He became proficient in several instruments including the guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, and drums. Known locally as "Benny 11-Letters," he grew up in Lakewood, Ohio, and Parma, Ohio, Ric Ocasek grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. When Ocasek was 16, his father, a computer analyst for NASA, was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Maple Heights High School in Maple Heights, Ohio, Ocasek then attended Bowling Green State University near Toledo, Ohio. He is married to model Paulina Porizkova. Ric and Ben met in Columbus, Ohio, where they began performing as a duo, covering rock and roll classics as well as performing their own material. After deciding that Boston would be a better place to break into the music business, they relocated there.
  13. This is a million times better than what was initially proposed.

I would hate the team as well if they had a douchebag self-aggrandizing ESPN special to announce their "Decision." Winning a championship would make me forget all about the horrendous Decision. Anyhow, we all know a lot of athletes are d-bags. Or stupid. Or worse. Pretty depressing actually!
  16. ^ I can't wait. Though if they still go through with that cheap and cheeseball red aluminum shed-looking roof I'm going to be sad. At least until the 5 or 6 beers kick in ha ha. I'll be taking RTA home from that place.

LeBron, Love, Kyrie, me and the janitor. That starting five alone could win the east.

^ One of Anthony Bourdain's most favorite episodes! There was nobody quite like The Cramps. Fronted by Lux Interior aka Erick Purkhiser (RIP) from Akron OH.

No, it's surprising. It's surprising it took so long. He was a good run blocker.
  24. They are doing something like that in Toronto. I wouldn't recommend normally, but in areas where the lakefront has been so extremely altered (ie Burke Lakefront, and most of downtown) I think you have a good idea. I am guessing that type of infrastructural improvement cost is very high.

Ha ha you are forgiven! KEXP is awesome and wish we had something similar around these parts. Anyhow, some ex-pat Cincy guys are doing well in Brooklyn/NYC. [i just saw mkeller mentioned them above]
