It's nice to see some smaller scale buildings along that stretch. North Coast Harbor truly lacks a personal scale.

Cleveland / Lakewood: The Edge Developments
^ thank you for sharing what was extremely similar to my most recent - and last ever GE experience. Except there was no "helper" or anyone else really around so I just left 50.00 worth of groceries there for some sad employee to put away or throw out. When I realized I needed their stupid card (MIA since 2010) I was like "what kind of business model is this?"

Akron: Random Development and News
Also, we used to have a Jillian's on South Main where ZAR/22 Exchange is now located. It inexplicably closed in 2007 and the building it was in was later demoed to make room for the 22 Exchange complex. I do think some kind of mixed-use entertainment facility similar to Jillian's or D&Bs would really thrive in Downtown Akron now. Jillian's for a long time was THE go-to place for anyone wanting to hang out in downtown, well before the invasion of student housing. I still don't understand why they closed--they never seemed to be hurting for business. Inexplicable to say the least. They spent tons renovating that building. They made it very attractive. And to see it torn down so quickly was disheartening, as there were nearby vacant lots and decrepit buildings that have stood vacant for 30 years. Stupid.

^ Agree. And I don't see more people using until there's massive coordinated investment. I wish the RTA stations had a concentrated retail component and/or simply designed better...well, we've all discussed this with all the insightful TOD commentary.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Wow. Is this an area where there is any chance of spinning a "less is more" angle? I suppose you can spin it that our rate of hotel growth is greater.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Optima bought it in June 2010 for $18.5 million. Remember they (and this property) were a finalist for the county HQ? Irrelevant. I'm fairly certain THIS is why they bought it.

Ha, well that's true. Handing off to the blocking back was a Bill Parcell's version of a trick play!

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Thank you for conjuring up suppressed images of Couch/Frye/etc. being sacked...on plays where they were handing the ball off!! Ugh.... Related note, I'm not hearing much about Maurice Carthon's career as Offensive Coordinator ha ha. He could've been the worst OC in recent history. His 19th century offense would've made great strides for the Canton Bulldogs or Dayton Triangles.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
In other areas, though, consultants have found ways to cut costs or bring in extra cash. Hilton increased its commitment to the project to $4.75 million, from approximately $2 million early on. Added features, including a rooftop bar, will generate more revenues. And interest rates are lower than the bond underwriters expected a few months ago. Cutting underground parking out of the hotel plans also saved money - potentially $15 million to $20 million. Between foundation complications and design challenges, it became clear that parking at the hotel was impractical, if not impossible. Ha, talk about two issues where this forum's consensus was right on the mark. And seemingly well in advance.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I agree. This wasn't really a "crime" per se and certainly didn't warrant the level of enforcement by some state agency eager to play "SWAT". I hope someone calls the city on Mr Senyak for a loose gutter or peeling paint. Maybe we can call the national guard in on him. I agree as well. A person with no criminal record shot in the head at an RTA station on W. 65th generates one or two comments. An art gallery caught for illegally giving away free alcohol generates multiple pages of discussion. Doesn't seem like "Crime and Safety" is really the focus of this thread. I would argue this art gallery incident is exactly on point for this thread. A man gets shot at RTA. There's no law enforcement there to prevent it. Why is that? However, there somehow enough resources available to send police and state agents to arrive en masse to an art gallery. For a noise violation? This is a question of priorities; of making the most out of limited resources. Where do we want our tax dollars going?

Hipsters
Was hanging with a good friend all day yesterday. We went to the Root Cafe in Lakewood. He's a hopelessly dated old man from Parma whose sense of style peaked around the John Cougar era. This friend was extremely leery of getting "hipster coffee." So he told the barista to get him a coffee that was the most like Folgers. You shoulda saw the look on this poor kids face, and mine for that matter. Who says this? Anyhow my Parma friend proceeds to tell me that Lakewood is being overrun by hipsters. I think to him, everyone that doesn't have super loose fitting acid washed jeans is a hipster. I told him that Lakewood was a pretty good cross section of Every person, and that it was unlikely that any one class of persons could "take over" the city. Maybe there was a goth epidemic in the 90's but I think that was everywhere. Well the barista heard us talking about hipsters, and he said he also thought Lakewood was being overrun by hipsters. Now of course, he was what most people probably would consider to be an encyclopedic example under the term "hipster." His evidence for this hipster takeover was that every place in Lakewood was turning toward the trend in craft beer; and to further this point he said there was a new "Beer Dungeon" that had just opened a few doors down. Only the problem for me was that I thought he kept saying "Beard Dungeon." I told him "I just had a beard." And the conversation went on like this Three's Company style...for about five minutes. I was so entranced in this idea of a subterranean bar where you needed a beard just to get inside the place. If your town boasts a beard dungeon, there's no way around it; you are the next Williamsburg.

Hipsters
thats hilarious. i'm working on two band names right now. and it's all about seo - search engine optimization lol. also, i read an onion article proving that all good band names are officially taken. Wouldn't the old tactic of intentional misspelling work for search engines? Perhaps, but a new fan, say someone just hearing the name after listening on the radio wouldn't be aware of that. And they could type in "the beetles" or "birds" rather than "the beatles" or "byrds."

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
An hour later the state officers entered the building and served Naji with a cease and desist order, warned those there to empty their bottles and glasses in the sink and not to take pictures with their cell phones as they put all the unopened beer and wine into large containers, Naji said. Okay, maybe I belong in jail. Because that is the precise moment I would've started taking pictures of everybody and everything. I hope this law-worshiping community activist gets effing pulled over every instance where he drives over the speed limit.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
That's not what I was saying. I was simply responding to the poppycock notion that these 'cops' could be out there dealing with such 'serious safety issues' if they weren't issuing this citation. This is what this unit does. Raiding businesses without a liquor license is just one function...... one in which I'm sure many on here would be cheering if it happened at a different kind of venue. It also deals with a lot of other serious concerns, such as underage sales to minors, illegal gambling, etc. and does so out of the state budget which 'saves the (local) money (and resources) for serious safety issues ie robber[ies] etc." I know, and get your point this is not the gang unit. Yes underage sales to minors, etc. obviously bad. Yet the mere fact they showed up at this gallery shows a waste of limited resources. It's a waste of their own time. Id like to know if it was in fact neighboring bar owners who initiated this mess. edit - just saw above posts re: how this started.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
There could be a silver lining to the delay. For one I don't trust Dan Gilbert. I want to see some kind of indication that his use of the riverside will constitute for more than a parking lot or access road to parking. There's still more time to hopefully put some pressure on the idea of continuing the progress being made on FEB II, Whiskey Island, Skate Park and Rowing Foundation. Until then Gilbert gets a solid vote of no confidence based on his past indiscretion.

Check them out on Facebook. Maybe you'll become a fan ;) I don't see any mention of this particular raid (yet). https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ohio-Investigative-Unit/165782203506269 Not under my real name. :) They probably noted the brewing backlash, hence no credit taking. From their FB page - which features a dangerous looking perp in handcuffs lol. WTOL in Toledo editorial - Harsh punishments are necessary to stop illegal alcohol sales I agree. Burn these illegal alcohol sellers alive! Chop off a hand ha ha. Make the punishment worse than any other offense :-)

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Is this state alcohol unit a good expenditure of our limited resources? I say no. Save the money for serious safety issues ie robbery's etc. Maybe there's a silver lining in that if gallery owners are hassled enough they will move to my hood in Lakewood. This Naji guy (or girl?) is the type of bad element I want more of closer to my house.
