Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
^ Have there been any recent renderings showing what the boulevard will actually look like? Or is the concept still in flux? It will be interesting to consider how the changes affect the value of adjacent real estate. Any way you slice it the area is tremendously underutilized.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
What waterfront on earth tries to block out the sun? Unless you're Montgomery Burns on the Simpsons ha ha. Anyhow even I can see this is off topic.

So then the shadows are cast on the water. I doubt the fish mind. I don't like having the having the tallest buildings near the shoreline because they monopolize the lake views. I'm a more democratic guy and believe the buildings should be "stepped down" the closer you get to the water's edge so they more tenants can enjoy the lake views. Fortunately, the 31-story hotel is pretty far back from the shoreline. Shade = cold and dreary. Having a northern oriented shoreline means less time in the sun. Add that the city is "behind" us and you could theoretically shade out the entire shoreline with tall buildings.

Cleveland: Downtown Retail Needs
That's a nice list. After a bit I thought i've decided the world headquarters of Rock and Roll should have a flagship guitar/musical instrument store.

Lakewood: Development and News
I'll swear by Lakewood, I just love the place. Hoboken is being ruined as we speak by politicians and gentrification. I dig the architecture in Lancaster but I'm not seeing the nightlife. And I have friends in CLE from Sarasota. They hate Sarasota, it's full of "trust fund kids" and overly generic.

Also I don't think you want tall buildings near/on the waterfront because of the resulting shadows cast. Especially since our shoreline is northern oriented.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ I know there are approx. 20 Mex restaurants other than Chipotle. And there are maybe 25 cool bars. Are you sticking by the interstate exit/suburban sections of town? I haven't heard of Bisbee, will check it out!

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Haven't been to Santa Fe yet, it's on my list. Now Flagstaff AZ should be on this list. It's really appealing to outdoorsy and artist types as well. A very cool, scenic and well-kept downtown...it could very well be the next Asheville NC.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I'm surprised by KC and a few others. But my only major disagreement is Albuquerque. I'm generally happy to pass that city at 80 mph. Somehow I just don't see 20 somethings clamoring to go to a balloon festival.

Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion
Completely understood--but my point was it seems to be a successful business. Selling it turnkey to a new owner would, to me, seem easier than actually closing a business down, especially if the owners health is failing. Maybe there are other factors. It's just a disappointment because it actually seems to be an asset for the neighborhood--I've never heard of any trouble coming out of that bar. Rumor mill alert. I've heard employees at Clifton Diner say the entire strip is being torn down. Take that for what it's worth, but it fits the fact pattern.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Silly article with a few anti-government barbs for good measure ha ha. Bolts-Bengals cities compared: How much cheaper is a house in Cincinnati? And Cincy's commute time is 0.4 seconds less! By U-T San Diego The NFL teams from San Diego and Cincinnati (it's in Ohio) face off Sunday. The two cities are quite different, as is to be expected in comparing the southwestern-most major city in the continental United States, a city known for, well, you know, and a Midwestern metropolis that contributed to American culture with the first professional baseball team (the Red Stockings) and the first night baseball game played under lights. (See Choose Cincinatti Fun Facts. It also offers more information on the food items Cincy's mayor bet San Diego's mayor.) U-T Business Columnist Dan McSwain, who has lived and worked in both cities, compared the cities and gave "the nod to Cincinnati as the better football town." This morning's U-T provided the following contrasts between the two bergs: The cities METRO AREA POPULATION San Diego: 3,177,063 vs. Cincinnati: 2,146,560 YEAR FOUNDED 1769 vs. 1788 YEAR INCORPORATED 1850 vs. 1819 “America’s Finest City" vs. "The Queen City" TALLEST BUILDING One America Plaza, 500 ft., vs. Great American Tower, 660 feet http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jan/03/chargers-bengals-cincinnati-playoff-cities-hp/

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I'm as disappointed in the Cavs as anyone, but how are the Browns not at least as disappointing this year? Sure the Browns were disappointing, about what we expected, especially given the injuries at QB. The Cavs look to be regressing.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Here is some info on the exterior construction material to be used for Westin: History of EIFS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exterior_Insulation_Finishing_System EIFS was developed in Europe after World War II and was initially used to retrofit solid masonry walls.[citation needed] EIFS started to be used in North America in the 1960s, and became very popular in the mid- 1970's due to the oil embargo and the resultant surge in interest in high energy efficiency wall systems (such as EIFS provides). The use of EIFS over stud-and-sheathing framing (instead of over solid walls) is a North American technique. EIFS is now used all over North America, and also in many other areas around the world, especially in Europe and the Pacific Rim. This is the most disappointing Cavs season I can remember. I think they are a very distant third behind the Tribe and Browns. Way to go Dan!

Exactly, they are serving in the role that Cleveland used to, by helping artists to break out. I really wish Cleveland could have a station like that.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
San Diego radio is pretty bad, unless you still want to hear Sublime and Red Hot Chili Peppers all day. There are two alternative stations and they play the identical "alternative-gold-music-from-the-last-century" format and sometimes they even play the same song at the same time....very sad. Here are two stations I really like. KEXP in Seattle KEXP enriches people's lives by championing music and discovery. KEXP is more than a radio station. KEXP is a dynamic arts organization that provides rich music experiences on the air, online, and on the streets. KEXP’s unique services benefit three distinct groups: Music Lovers, Artists, and the Arts Community. KEXP’s curatorial staff of 40 DJs, who are widely recognized as experts in their field, present the newest emerging popular artists alongside established bands. KEXP’s programming features both variety and specialty shows that brings you the emerging sounds and long-time favorites from the Pacific Northwest, the country, and throughout the world. Artists championed by KEXP are not typically supported by traditional non-profit arts organizations or commercial media outlets. They are inventive, contemporary musicians creating new work in popular genres that include rock, hip hop, reggae, country, Latin, modern global and more. http://kexp.org/ KCRW in Los Angeles KCRW is a recognized tastemaker for new music from around the world, with trendsetting hosts such as Music Director Jason Bentley, who features live in-studio sessions and interviews with established and emerging artists on Morning Becomes Eclectic; indie and alternative rock with music supervisor Gary Calamar; nu-soul and funk with Garth Trinidad; Raul Campos features dance rhythms and Latin beats; Chris Douridas spotlights the latest singer-songwriters and music in all genres; and more. http://www.kcrw.com/

Nice! FYI Easton PA vs. Allentown NJ (just across the Delaware over that cool bridge) is one of the great high school football rivalries. 107 years old.
