Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Details!! I can't say! Legally speaking :-) I can say issue wasn't the seller, had more to do with financing. But it's good to see the building finally get some life again. And my friends instead opened Taco Tonto in Lakewood which benefits me greatly.

Buildings That Don’t Exist: Fake Facades Hide Infrastructure
Buildings That Don’t Exist: Fake Facades Hide Infrastructure Article by Steph, filed under Cities & Urbanism in the Architecture category. From the sidewalk, this Paris building looks just like those around it, complete with doors, windows and balconies. but take a look at Google Maps, as Paul of the blog Paris by Cellphone did, and you’ll notice something strange: there’s nothing behind that facade. Like many others all over the world, this ordinary-looking building is just a shell to disguise unsightly infrastructure. http://weburbanist.com/2013/04/29/buildings-that-dont-exist-fake-facades-hide-infrastructure/

^ I can live with that. My friends were in the process of buying this building last year, but things got "shady."

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Andy Dalton stinks. Yet he managed to outplay Campbell in this all important game. The AFC North just kinda sucks.

^ Welcome! To me Cleveland's biggest obstacle is that every "good" section of the city borders, or is even in some cases surrounded, by a "bad" one. Bridging the gaps (making them safe and walkable as you've said) will be a tremendous catalyst for further growth.

Mark "Munch" Bishop had a caller on who was complaining about traffic on Browns game days. Munch says, "Well friend then I got three letters for you...R T A!"

Bestest quote from the PD: Brickman also would need a rezoning, since most of the property is designated for industrial uses. That includes a hilltop garden, cultivated by residents at the Grove Court Condominiums, that Brickman intends to maintain as a public green space. He's exploring ways to tie that garden and the new residences to walking and bicycling paths, including the planned Lake Link trail in the Flats. Switchbacks down the hillside, for example, might provide better public access from Ohio City to the trail, along with rowing facilities at Rivergate Park and a planned skateboard park. "Whoever buys here better have an RTA pass," Eric Wobser, executive director of Ohio City Inc., said of Brickman's project. "They better have a bike. They better have a kayak. They better have a skateboard." But, he added, they won't necessarily need a car.

Is Mike Brown capable of putting together an offense?
-
Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Right. I think part of the theory was that the team isn't used to putting so much effort on D, and thus it's hurt the offensive effort.

Ha ha! That building sucks and agree the hotel needs to shield itself from the suckyness. Injustice Center should have gotten the Federal Building's stupid shell.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Good interview with Jason Loyd (Akron Beacon) right now on WKNR. Key point - he says Mike Brown has a proven defensive system and we need to give him time for the team to adjust.

Lakewood: Hilliard Square Theater faces demolition
I cannot believe that guy spent 275K on that building. Holy cow! It's a shame they're tearing down the street fronting sections too, those are nice storefronts. And once again, how did he fail to work out some kind of parking lot sharing with the school? He seemed to have good heart and just a bad mind for business.

Again we're not getting enough of a close-up look, but I'm fearing the side facing the mall is too sterile looking. I though the purpose of the podium was the engage the mall and to pay respect to the Group Plan? Perhaps I'm mistaken on that last point, but I'm not seeing this at all.

The local sports media is turning against the Cavs in record time.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Hmm. At first glance I'm not liking this as much as Denver (my favorite) or San Diego. But really, the most important aspect imho is how the building interacts on a human scale, with the surrounding mall and streets. It needs to be inviting, ie not Key Tower II.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
This is weird. Turner Field was built (way way back) in 97. Braves planning new suburban stadium in 2017 Nov. 11, 2013 ATLANTA — The Braves announced Monday they are leaving Turner Field and moving into a new 42,000-seat, $672 million stadium about 10 miles from downtown Atlanta in 2017. It’s not clear how much it will cost taxpayers. Braves executives John Schuerholz, Mike Plant and Derek Schiller said the team decided not to seek another lease at 17-year-old Turner Field and began talks with the Cobb Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority in July. Plant, the executive vice president of business operations, said the team has not signed a contract with Cobb County, but he’s “100 percent certain it will happen.” He said talks broke down with the Atlanta Fulton County Recreational Authority earlier this year over an extension of the team’s 20-year lease, which expires after the 2016 season. The stunning news came as the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons finalize plans for a new $1.2 billion retractable roof stadium near downtown, which is also scheduled to open in 2017. “We started looking at our future way back in 2005,” Plant said. “We recognized some of the challenges the current site held for us and we recognized some of the opportunities that we were going to pursue to enhance those.” continued: http://www.app.com/viewart/20131111/NJSPORTS0330/311110051/Braves-planning-new-suburban-stadium-2017
