Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Great suggestion! Thanks. I will contact them. p.s. I actually live in San Diego now but much of my heart is still in Cleveland. Edgewater is one the most unique surf spots in America, and it's my passion to see that this tradition is rightly recognized and preserved for future generations.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
I'm hoping for something more modern, with some bold colors. Please no more beige! I agree with this statement 99% of the time. But the Group Plan is something truly special in Cleveland, and I think it should be respected. Not many cities can say they were the focus of a large-scale redevelopment plan by Daniel Burnham! If I was an eccentric billionaire, I'd buy up all that land and extend the mall to the lakefront and surround it with neoclassical buildings. But alas, I am a poor college intern. I'm poor too so I also have eccentric billionaire plans ha ha. If you look at old postcards etc. from the Great Lakes Exposition, THAT'S the Lakefront I would love! Art Deco prominence worthy of an historic and powerful city like Cleveland. But since that ship has sailed, I actually dig the new stuff ie Rock Hall and GLSC. Plus the Global Center has already kinda broken the traditional mold. When viewed from the lake Cleveland looks new and exciting to me. There are lots of cities in Northern Europe that mix modern/color with deference to the old stuff quite well. Lets be like that. Glancing through the CooperCarry stuff it's anyone's guess what's gonna happen with the hotel.

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Still working on it CBC. One good thing is that surfing is mostly an off season activity here. So when the waves really start up in September/October it should be a non-issue; there won't be any lifeguards or swimming limits. But we've already had some really nice conversations with metroparks and we're off to a positive start. Even despite the headaches, majority of the surfers and SUP'ers are super glad with the changes that are underway.

What do you define the Midwest to be?
In the same breath. Indianapolis and Indiana don't belong or feel Great Lakes to me. Personally, I feel Cleveland is a lot like Philly, Newark, Baltimore. I think Cleveland feels a lot like Philly. Outside of the row houses, Cleveland mirrors Philly. I get the same feel as far as Cleveland and Philadelphia go. When I think of Midwest I think of flat cities surrounded by cornfields. Basically Indiana, Illinois outside Chicagoland Iowa, Oklahoma, Missouri, basically all the great plains states. You may get the same feel architecture-wise. But I feel like there is a cultural world of difference between Cleveland and Philly. To me, the term "Midwest" isn't just geographical; it comes with a certain politeness factor, as well as a certain speed as to how people live.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
We all have differing ideas over whatever best use would be, but this point is something we can agree on.

Don't ya remember the mockup? It didn't look like a grocery store per se, but more like a common area with food kiosks.

Great to hear! I believe I actually got some long lost friends with Land...should contact them.

I love this project. Now if/when it's connected to other riverside attractions I will be ecstatic. Isolated pockets of greenspace or activity alone aren't going to cut it. We need bike and ped connections for this to be transformative. True. If they can get the trail through there, that connectivity will create an energy that spreads. I wish I had more time I'd delve into who owns all the adjacent properties. Or at least study the master planning for the area. There's so much potential. In my imagination this area is the catalyst for a real and vibrant waterfront that we are sorely lacking. Developing the riverside, even with the hurdles is a good investment. Re: plans for this area, what I've seen in passing (and can recall) it is very impressive, but like all of us on here, I've learned to temper my enthusiasm for pretty pictures. Nor can we trust that the decision-makers "get it" when it comes to good planning.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Intriguing....this is the part of the episode where the main character says "Enhance it!" Also, in the past I've triangulated some of your photography and have calculated you work(ed) in Key Tower. I used to work on floor 39! Great view of FIRST ENERGY FIELD HOME OF THE BROWNS from that vantage point. [on-topic now]

Erocc I'm digging your white sunglasses! p.s. I'm torn over knowing what you internet people really look like. Like some posters I assume just look like maniacs. Or I'd be disappointed to see that Hts isn't the Big Lebowski.

For whatever reason the Pitt photographs look far superior to the Cleveland rendering. Just look at the comparison of the roof materials.

USA Soccer: Men's National Team
I'm embarassed to say I totally forgot about the game last night. I'm IN DALLAS! After work went straight to this bar (awesome TOD by the way!) and three guys with Honduras jerseys walked in and I instantly realized I missed it. Do'h!

What do you define the Midwest to be?
Wasn't the River the western boundary of the United States at one time? A Cleveland connection ie "Midwest meets East" would be really cool. It'd help the city. Driving on I-80 there's a distinct change in scenery at the Ohio border/Youngstown. The mountains flatten out, the trees and grasses suddenly look different, the roadway is worse. To me that "Ohio Welcomes You" sign just seems like the gateway to the Midwest.

I wouldn't be surprised if this area filled in fairly quickly thanks to aforementioned CSU and PS northward expansion. I think what's concerning is that, correct me if I'm wrong, the lack of a cohesive, consistent master plan for the area. No reason why it cannot be a shining example of pedestrian friendly development.

What do you define the Midwest to be?
Shoot cannot get the link on archaic OS here at work. I'd start at Youngstown, then continue west until reaching a state where there is tumbleweed. If there's tumbleweed, that's West. Kentucky is South. All Great Lakes States are Midwest. Iowa is Midwest, which is obvious if you watch Field of Dreams.

Or worse, something that mirrors the Justice Center [shudder] in design.

Agree. But that is the reality of virtually every desirable coastal area in the country.

I'm torn on the smoking issue. I hate banning things, but time and again for whatever reason many just don't consider this littering. This is something that can be fixed with a little education. This cigarette littering is but one area where the visitors have to learn a little bit of beach etiquette.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Huh, I didn't see any negative comments. the cleveland.com article from Sam. Alot of the comments accuse him and his businesses. Oh gotcha. For whatever reason sirens have always sounded 10x louder on W. 25th. Not sure what other route exists in this instance. Maybe dial down the sirens just a little?

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
What do you suppose is more likely? (A) UC will lobby for infrastructure improvements for transit to alleviate traffic issues, or (B) they will build outwards with more parking to accommodate the additional cars. I honestly have no idea. Hoping for A obviously.
