  1. Just like you I want - and for 30 years have wanted the shoreline in Cleveland to be made into something truly great. I don't mean to sound negative and I definitely don't want to steer anyone here away from being optimistic.
  2. Lol it's literally the definition of coast engineering. Do you know how the current will be there? I do. Trust me, it will be bad. The depth of the water there will be dangerous because none of the area is natural, it's literally built on a waste dump. If you get swept down the "beach" you will be up against the breakwall.
  3. Coastal engineering in a way that's environmentally beneficial is not basic - t's extremely difficult. You can not undo 150 years of damage without an incredible amount of investment. I'm not at all suggesting improvements should not or will not ever be done. It's just a long long way off.
  4. ^ Now imagine that but the Cuyahoga River is flowing into it....and there's no sand.
  5. A "beach" in the spot depicted is not optimal. In my experience there's 1. not enough water movement (because of the breakwall) so there's constant water quality issues and 2. the area is non-natural landfill, so we're talking a real feat of engineering to naturalize a shoreline, which I've never seen accomplished before.
  6. Maybe not, but I'd still love to see a soccer friendly multi-use facility at CSU. Especially if we can still net a USL team....still hoping the Force re-emerges. CSU soccer + NWSL/MLS Next/USL would get a ton of use.
  7. Average attendance for NWSL is around 7k fans. MLS Next will be far less than that. Using a 70k seat stadium for these teams just is not a great use of resources and would make for a very poor fan experience. Also the language " his group has made 'significant progress' on its stadium plan" and I could be wrong, but that doesn't sound like they'll be sharing Browns stadium.

^ Not only that, but the stripe has gotten stupidly wide. They won't need a logo because at this rate the stripe will eventually cover the entire helmet. p.s. Interesting to see a pic of the old Cleveland team (Rams) vs. the new Cleveland team.
  9. Playing in an NFL stadium is essentially a non-starter. There are a few exceptions in MLS of course but as the article states it is "crucial" for a NWSL bid to have your own stadium.
  10. I was involved in a survey at Playhouse Square about ten years ago. The questions made it obvious that PS was very concerned with the appearance and overall feel of safety for those who might normally not feel comfortable in an urban environment. Like, there were several questions about whether I would even walk down Euclid Ave lol. Anyhow I have a suspicion that "clean and new" somewhat sanitized designs are in their wheelhouse for what they perceive most visitors to want. I'm hesitant to make a Crocker Park reference but the old marquees did have a yesteryear, Time Square in the 70's vibe to them that I loved, but suppose some people could relate their look to urban grit, crime or whatever.
  11. ^ A good reminder that many businesses and practices are currently cookie-cutter tailored for certain growth patterns. As with many aspects of life, the momentum is much more toward maintaining the status quo rather than for the positive changes we want to see.
  12. If someone commits a violent crime with a firearm (or other deadly weapon) that person absolutely needs to be removed from society for a long long time. The current state of prisons are totally unacceptable and must be changed to protect those incarcerated, but first things first.
  13. California at the state level is mandating zoning changes in the cities to account for more housing. I cannot speak to other cities but in San Diego the NIMBY's are generally not united by political party. But in SD this policy mandate has opened up a TON of new real estate for housing and the current static is actually over defining the size of the TOD areas eligible for the added density. Interestingly the Chamber of Commerce (typical R's) and environmental groups (typical D's) want the TOD areas defined as within a one mile walk to transit, while critics claim added density beyond a 1/2 mile walk will only increase auto-dependency. The NIMBY's seem to be older types who want SD to be the way it was in the 70's. There is however a clearer divide when it comes to transit funding; the question of should dollars flow toward trains/buses/bike infrastructure or additional highway lanes. Maybe that's more urban vs. suburban/rural than D vs. R.
  14. I was just wondering if the Cleveland Metroparks are technically urban growth boundaries.
  15. I still need to see more of what they plan for where the structure & property actually meet the water. The fact they don't seem to be focusing on it should cause some concern.
  16. Nice! Can you do one for Edgewater Park?
  17. Agree 100 percent. And I think this sentiment also applies to whoever opened or plans to open at INTRO.
  18. Just found out about the wiki travel site on reddit: https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Cleveland At first glance it appears there's lots of room for more info. I mean the "Drinks" section alone could be several paragraphs instead of one measly arguably false statement, so have at it!
  19. It's particularly frustrating to see the same thing still happening in Lakewood on Detroit Ave.
  20. From the article: They are not alone in having complaints about working for Adjaye and his practice. Of 13 former employees the FT spoke to, most described a disorganised and frantic workplace in both Accra and London where they worked long hours and where, in some cases, individuals were paid less than they might have received elsewhere in the industry for the level of work they were undertaking. “The main priority is to feed this personality cult,” said one. I was wondering if this kind of criticism could be leveled at every large firm, or is this something that an entity like Bedrock should have caught with due diligence?
  21. I'm almost reluctant to mention this because I have no real details, but as I was driving down W.25th last week I heard a guy yelling "They all jumped out and robbed him, and got back in their car and took off!" Sure enough down the street a few blocks there were 3 or 4 police officers interviewing a guy who looked distraught. This was at a pretty crowded time of day and right in broad daylight.
  22. A refresher course: https://www.wattersonlakecle.com/site-background
  23. How many billboards in CLE are there for the Rock Hall? I've been in town for three months and all I see is Tim Misny.
  24. Not sure if that's their area of expertise, but the members certainly could help. Maybe this would likely fall more toward the Convention and Visitors Bureau? Best results would definitely require a group effort (Metroparks, artists, Cleveland Foundation, Rock Hall for licensing issues, etc).
