HOT in Southern California - Part 1
Hey Peabody, my dad's moving to Ocean Beach next month!! He loves it. Says it's the only part of SD that has not really changed since the 60's. Lots of character there for sure. very cool! I love OB, it is loaded with charm (and insanity) We are a block and a half from the beach and lots of other interesting places! Ha ha. I'm hoping the old man can sleep through the ruckus at night. Then again, he may end up causing it. When he lived in Pacific Beach in the 60s there was a passing car every 15 minutes or so. Super chilled out back then. I've noticed some of the listings on Craigslist say "on a quiet street" lol. Few and far between I imagine. I'm guessing the Point Loma border is where things calm down a bit. p.s. my dad is hoping to find a cottage-style place ie first floor, where there aren't shared walls. Seems like 85 percent of the rentals are that classic, SD motel style.

I'm going with a bunch of people from work. Three of them are already flaunting their TIGERS GEAR. I want to put a broom by each their desks tomorrow morning. Bleachers here we come!!!! p.s. I'm always surprised how many Tribe fans don't know that YOU CAN BRING FOOD into the stadium. What I myself didn't know until last nite is that you can now take unopened bottled water inside as well.

Thanks for the heads up. Checking it out now. Looks like they have Nirvana, Linkin Park and Seven Mary Three on deck...I'm going out on a limb that this is an "alternative gold" type station like the once great CD101 in Columbus has evolved into. Okay "Wicked Garden" by STP confirms this. New station. Old music.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
RTA does lease some space inside Windermere for a diner (please check it out), and leases some space inside a former station -- I believe it is Coventry. When Joe Calabrese became CEO in 2000, he found that RTA both paid rent for some spaces, and leased some spaces. Over the years, RTA moved toward being rent-free, and several years ago, we reached that goal. All services are now operated in buildings that we own. Sorry Jerry I meant to ask...has the leasing out of retail space been a financial boost for RTA? And if so, can we someday see RTA properties expand retail (and maybe even residential) opportunities to grow along with increased passenger numbers?

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Good discussion. My concern with chain restaurants is that the number of ready-for-action available space downtown is a finite resource. Because of some awful planning there just aren't that many prime storefronts available when you really think about it. I like to hope that eventually space will be so sought after that dreaded parking garages and windowless buildings will be modified to accommodate new restaurants etc. There are way too many dead zones. Until then, you lose Fat Fish Blue to "gain" a Twisted Kilt. We should have room for both!

I like it too. It's street walls are very busy. Reminds me of Carson Street in Pittsburgh but with bigger buildings. Exactly! There's a lot to take in visually.

For what it's worth, if there was a kiosk selling juice or decent coffee - like Phoenix :) @ 117 Rapid I would definitely support it.

Does RTA lease any space out for retail? Seems an obvious way to increase revenues.

Looks great. Visual evidence of the spreading success of e 4th? p.s. I love the look of Euclid Ave. I am not sure if there's another street in the world quite like it.

As someone who was fortunate to experience the craze spurred by the Cosmos in the 70's, I'm hoping for NY. It was truly amazing and I'd love to relive even a fraction of that excitement once again, and see the MLS benefit from it. The Cosmos have a favored waterfront site in Manhattan, but it being NYC, still a lot of hurdles to overcome. edit - Oh yeah, I have to rep this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489247/

I'm 50/50 on MM. I'm certainly not in love with it, but I admire the attempt to be different. My concern is the lack of windows. In that in the sad event that the MM concept doesn't work out, I'm wondering who else n the future would want a largely windowless building. p.s. I understand that the industry may prefer windowless rooms; but why not simply use traditional windows and then creatively block them off from the inside in rooms that prefer it? That way the future marketability of the building isn't compromised.

Westlake: Crocker Park
Tough subject. I'm eternally upset with AG for senselessly killing the drive-in theatre. But they also employ and support good friends of mine who are graphic designers (from Phoenix, South Florida, Grand Haven) who wouldn't be here otherwise.

Westlake: Crocker Park
American Greetings details headquarters plans, says Westlake construction to start in early 2013 By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer BROOKLYN, Ohio -- American Greetings Corp. expects to start construction early next year on its Westlake headquarters, which new renderings depict as a five-story, office-and-retail building and parking garage at the south end of Crocker Park. The publicly traded company, which produces cards and other greetings, plans to move from Brooklyn to Westlake in mid-2014. Executives unveiled the first designs for the $150 million to $200 million headquarters project during a meeting with employees this afternoon. Renderings from architecture firm RTKL show a 650,000-square-foot headquarters building, wrapping a square courtyard on the third story. To the west, American Greetings and the city of Westlake will build a five-level parking structure, linked to the company's offices by a glassy, enclosed bridge. cont: http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/05/american_greetings_details_hea.html
