Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
I hate to say I don't think these changes go far enough. More specifically, I'm disappointed that "advanced" cyclists are not further separated from traffic. I ride across here fairly often, and it feels absolutely life threatening. If you take the "share the road" option I'll say the same exact thing with Detroit Superior. I don't care what the speed limit is, traffic on both bridges reach speeds that are way too high for cyclists to exist in such close proximity. This graphic on the left should hit home just how stupidly dangerous this is: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D12/PlanningEngineering/Documents/050511%20Bridge.pdf

NBA: General News & Discussion
Well, Newark has the Devils and Nets. But Newark identifies really closely with NY Jets/Giants so probably not a good example.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
Thank you X 1,000 Channel 5. You took what could have been a serious story and instead, you went that extra mile to make it cartoonishly hilarious!!! p.s. the "horror movie" edit at 4:05 is my favorite, along with the entire soundtrack http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/investigations/blind-rta-rider-says-transit-cops-failed-to-rescue-him-after-falling-on-tracks-calling-for-help

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Check out the pic just upthread. It's interesting that it looks like the third and fourth floor of the Stanley could be opened up to the rooftop of the Welcome Center. A fortunate coincidence? This could be a tremendous opportunity for some unique rooftop dining.

Good move. I like how they shift locations, it keeps things interesting and helps to show off the many dimensions (and the great potential) of downtown.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
^ This is right. Dolan has been a blundering PR nightmare ever since he took ownership. Now he's somehow managed to become even less visible than Randy Lerner. Also, I don't have the study to back this up of course, but I think pulling the Tribe off of "free tv" has had a major effect in alienating the the fans.

NFL: General News & Discussion
Absolutely right Dan (and MTS). Depression is like being in a tunnel where the light ahead gets smaller and smaller, even though you're trying to move towards it faster. And then the walls start closing in around you. My assumption is that this is depression related, and nobody should be surprised if brain damage is an underlying factor. I'm in San Diego right now. It's surreal. People are stunned. Junior Seau is an icon of this community and there are countless stories of his generosity going around; he gave back to the community.

Those would be kinda cool.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
I believe the way it was originally pitched sounded pretty bad for the neighborhood. Plus, RTA was under strict scrutiny because a) the WH Dist and its walkability is such a tremendous commodity and b) some of the past RTA developments being accused of having poor urban design.

Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
His designs are unique but to me are not fitting for a college campus especially seeing how conservative KSU is with their designs I take it you're not a fan of the Gehry building at Case!

Cleveland: University Circle: Centric Development (formerly Intesa)
It may coexist with it, I believe. Especially in University Circle. like if free parking were strategically sectored off in a few large, strategically located garages. Public transit can then shuffle commuters off to museums, college, etc.

Cleveland: University Circle: Centric Development (formerly Intesa)
Exactly. Again I have to ask, why do we allow streetlife killing version of parking garages? Look at how dead the side streets are off of E. 9th. It's terrible. It's 2012 and we all know how damaging these are. Yet we are still in complete reliance upon developers to do the correct thing?

UCI should literally be demanding that from the developer team. Unlike some of the downtown projects we grumble out, UCI holds all the cards. As long as it doesn't break the budget, it can demand anything it [and we] thinks is beneficial for the wider UC area here. It should be against zoning to kill off sidewalk vitality the way bad parking garages do. And (to veer slightly off topic) how about some tax incentives to re-purpose older garages to house retail or provide some kind of public interface.

I'll say it. The Market should expand. It's getting too crowded. (ready to dodge a barrage of spoiled fruit).

NYC: New Major League Stadiums
Yes, they could have, though they'd played in NJ for years by then. I was responding less to your point about construction of a stadium than to your statement that you don't know how people could be NY sports fans, apparently because they cross the river to NJ for the games. My point (poorly made) is that I don't think the stadium being in New Jersey has had a negative effect on the fandom of or identification by NYC residents with either team. I agree with you re: Jets/Giants. But ironically, there currently is an issue with some soccer fans not supporting Red Bull NY because their stadium is "way out" in Newark/Harrison NJ. It will be interesting if/when NYC gets a second team in Manhattan (which will likely be the renewed NY Cosmos) how NYC fan allegiance will line up.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Looks rather out of place for a building of that type. There's a ton of room for new growth around there, and I'm not sure the existing look of the District can be replicated. I think the Pinnacle compliments the warehouses. And for the most part I think this new building will be complimentary as well.

NYC: New Major League Stadiums
Isn't their current arena just a couple years old? I guess the Nets will need another new arena to call home in another couple years...?? You know, to stay fresh?? I wouldn't feel like the move was such a raw deal if they kept the NJ name. The NY Giants, Jets, and Red Bulls play in NJ, after all. I don't know how anyone could be a NY sports fan. Or NJ, really. The sense of community is too diluted, especially when the teams are statewide or they play in a different municipality/state. If NKY got a basketball or hockey arena, I wouldn't want the team to have Cincinnati's name attached. And I would be less of a fan if the Cbus Blue Jackets were the Ohio Blue Jackets. (Or, heaven forbid, if the Reds/Indians/Bengals/Browns/Cavaliers went statewide.) It's one of the fallacies of being a Buckeyes fan, especially if you're not an alum. That new arena in Newark (imho) always seemed more about Devils hockey. Unlike the Nets, the Devils have a strong fanbase and the franchisehas a history of success. p.s. I think you're right ninja that it's harder for statewide teams to attract a core, critical mass of fans. This is especially true in a place like NJ where it's so closely tied to Philadelphia and NYC. Fans of the Flyers and Rangers liked to point out how "lame" NJ was because when the Devils won the Cup, there was no place for a traditional parade. Now they have Newark.

Awesome article. One thing that should be underlined is the $180,000 vacant building grant that helped make the renovation possible. Very cool. Could a houseboat community be in the cards eventually?

^ While I love the rendering, I kinda hate how that building turned out. I think its the color....I like the white.

NYC: New Major League Stadiums
^That's because I moved to Ohio  You are a NJ Nets fan??? I didn't have an nba favorite, but all my friends were mostly Knicks or 76ers, with some Lakers and Celtics thrown in. But I'm not exaggerating, I personally don't know of any Nets fans.

Food trucks....yes! Actually you're reminding me, I do remember hearing an all night diner is opening downtown but can't find the article.
