  1. Interesting note, my friend tells me that at one time the famous-but-closing Hough Bakery was selling their name brand and all of their recipes for something like $10,000. With their name recognition and the nostalgia factor, it seems to me that would have been a good investment.
  2. Ooo, I'm gonna have to tell Mr. broccoli. We prefer the lighter beers. Did they have a good wheat beer? Well, their wheat beer on tap was.....Great Lakes Holy Moses! Please check them out and let us know what you and the husband think.

    THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!!!
  4. From what I can remember, the union was pressuring Jim to take the highest offer. I would be on the bandwagon for the Thome/Vizquel farewell tour! I'm a sucker for nostalgia, and they both could start in the OF for us tonight.
  5. Agree for the most part. I don't blame Tribe fans for Thome, as Sox or Yankee fans would have been even worse imho. I actually felt worse for fan hatred toward Belle, who actually wanted to resign here but was persona non grata to John Hart by time. Aesthetically, we have some major "red flags" to overcome aesthetically...I'd like for the city to address those as they create a very negative first impression for visitors, but this isn't the thread for that. I think you're 100 percent dead on with the perception of our coolness. We definitely ARE a cool city...but in a less obvious, more hidden way. I was a little riled up this am ha ha. I still have a bad taste over Scott Rolen dissing us...and Joke-eem Noah....and Eva...and David Wells!! p.s. Did you guys hear who our starting OF is for us tonight. Folks, we are in trouble!!
  6. I think the problem with Beltran (and other front-runners who want a championship handed to them) is that the Indians aren't viewed as a legit contender. I think the entire league is waiting for the rest of the division to overtake us. I follow the NBA. Please show some examples where the Cavs have had to overpay free agents to bring them here. Is our free agent premium any higher than other teams? If not, then this is a factless stereotype spread by Cleveland haters. Was there any documented quote in which Vincent Jackson said he will never want to live in Cleveland? Or was this said about Jackson by others? Even if he wouldn't come here, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with Cleveland. It means there's something wrong with Jackson. The Cavs having to overpay is taken as gospel by every radio personality on WKNR. To be fair, the Jackson thing was brought up by Chris Fedor. No mention of an official statement from Jackson. p.s. Jackson would be a really big help to any QB!!

Looks to me like a nicer version of Akron, right down to the prominent art deco building that looks to be a mini First Energy bldg. Love the narrow street/wide sidewalk in that one pic. I suppose that's one instance where I'd accept a one way street. Bells looks like a really homely building!! It could use a little....I don't know...livening up? I've been wanting to visit for Akron vs. Western Michigan football for a while. Being around so many super micro breweries would be a huge bonus. Great pics, thanks for posting!
  8. Any time this team scores runs it's a minor miracle. I'm afraid without help our offense will ensure us second or third place in the central. Anyhow, I just heard that Carlos Beltran is open to a trade with ANY contending team EXCEPT the Cleveland Indians. Unbelievable. If you follow the NBA you know that the Cavs must overpay free agents to get them here. And, a topic of conversation this morning on WKNR is that Chargers wannabe free agent receiver Vincent Jackson will never want to live in Cleveland. Whatever the hell is wrong with Cleveland, what can we do to help fix this bad rep? Is it that the city is ugly (Joakim Noah) or is it the weather? The perception of a losing sports town? What is it????
  9. While I haven't gone so far as to boycott Cedar Point...and I'm sure my more suburban friends will eventually be dragging me to the casino, KJP you really hit the nail on the head. It seems most every positive development comes attached with a striking negative.
  10. Was at the Market Brewery yesterday. Second time visit. I'm already a big fan of the beers, my wife loves their awesome pretzel. Waitress was amazing and gave us some freebie samples : ) I like the decor. It reminds me of a ski lodge for some reason. There was nothing in the interior to preserve like at Great Lakes. My bold prediction: the outdoor patio will be even more popular when it gets cold. For a couple of reasons, I agree that this place will compliment rather than compete with Great Lakes. For one, Great Lakes, whether intentional or not, caters to an older, more conservative crowd. They've always closed early, they book traditional music. Their events, while popular, are very very tame and the bands they enlist for them are often not-at-all trendy or musically relevant. Second, the beer at Market is nothing at all like Great Lakes. Market's are generally lighter in body and nowhere near the hoppy-ness levels of Great Lakes. I was extremely surprised given there shared lineage. Beer aficionados from out of town will surely be hopping between both places. Oh, and Market does carry some Great Lakes too. Pretty cool. A win-win for Ohio City.
  11. Great, it's barely 8am and I'm already sick to my stomach.
  12. Their "vision" of Euclid Ave is obviously much different than ours.
  13. I can't figure out if Bernanke is really truly knocked back on his heels, or if he's just super frustrated at having to actually defend himself. He has to be wincing every time he's accused of printing money out of thin air lol.
  14. I'll admit, a lot of times debating economics just ends up hurting my head. But I found this interesting. The Federal Reserve is continuing to come under scrutiny during this recession. I like Ron Paul, so I've been drawn into the discussion. The more I learn, the more perplexing and fragile our whole economy appears. Paul, if you don't know, is the Chair for the House Committee on Domestic Monetary Policy overseeing the Fed. In this instance, he's bringing up the gold standard to try and trip up Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. Anyone else with a better knowledge than I care to chime in? A panoramic photo of all the players from the Joss benefit game hangs on a wall in the family room. The framed photo is a limited reprint of the original and shows the Naps and all-stars lined down the third base line with thousands of fans watching. My friend, a die-hard Red Sox fan, has that picture hanging on his wall. Interesting photography note, during the slow panoramic shot, one of the players ran behind the group from one end to the other side. So, he's in the shot twice! http://andersonsclevelanddesign.com/shop/1911-addie-joss-benefit/

Avenue of the Americas in NYC. What could sound more prominent than that!!!
  18. These guys are pretty knowledgeable and canoe-centric. Stop by their place in Sheffield Lake, or just give them a ring! http://www.backpackersshop.com/
  19. This is a tremendous vision and it does look amazing. Thanks for posting!!
  20. Ouch...we may be in some trouble lol.
  21. Ha, I think they used those same panels on the Death Star!
  22. That's a nice looking locale! What is it about brick streets that make them so awesome?
  23. Back in the 80's my town in NJ was up in arms about being forced to provide low income housing....housing which would undoubtedly attract *gasp* minorities! They worked out some kind of shady deal where the town would provide housing, but it could be limited to senior citizens. Stereotypically enough, they are 96 percent white and do have the reputation as being "the safest city in America" . http://www.morganquitno.com/safecity.htm
  24. I think your point about good transit shows that this study is not necessarily a quality of life measure.
